AbstractThe paper analyses the sensory marketing of the sense of smell, its dimensions and usage in marketing decisions. By invoking the scent marketing decisions, one aims at attracting the consumer attention, to keep him/ her at a point of sale as long as possible, to affect the behaviour and encourage an impulsive process of buying decision making. The theoretical study was performed by analysing the insights of Lithuanian and foreign authors on the purpose of elaborating the coherence between the ambient scent at the point of sale and the consumer impulse buying behaviour. It was revealed during the study that the ambient scent at a point of sale can be assessed as a stimulus which invokes the consumer’s impulsive buying behaviour. The logic of the prepared conceptual model is related to S-O-R paradigm: the environmental stimulus (ambient scent at a point of sale) affects the human organism (consumer internal response) and causes reaction (consumer impulsive buying behaviour).

The leading objective of this paper is to unearth the influence of culture and personality of Indian consumers on their impulsive buying behaviour. A lot of research has been done to study the influence of external stimuli like advertisements and in-store promotions on consumers’ buying behaviour. This paper studies the influence of internal stimuli on impulse buying behaviour. Impulse buying is an unplanned buying or accidental behaviour of consumers. This paper tries to establish a relationship between different personality traits and accidental behaviour of consumers. The impact of Big Five personality traits and culture (Individualism and Collectivism) on the impulsive buying behavior is studied. Data has been collected from consumers using structured questionnaire on a five-point Likert’s scale. The data would be analysed through various statistical tools using SPSS.

PurposeDuring COVID-19 pandemic, the use of social media enhances information exchange at a global level; therefore, customers are more aware and make backup plans to take optimal decisions. This study explores the customer psychology of impulse buying during COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThe researcher, being a social constructionist, aims at understanding social patterns in impulsive buying strategies during COVID-19 pandemic. Forty UK consumers were participated using the telephonic interview method with the purpose to maintain social distancing practices.FindingsResults revealed that vulnerable group of people, fear of illness, fear of empty shelves, fear of price increase and social inclination to buy extra for staying at home, increased panic impulsive buying behaviour among customers. Many people socially interpreted the evidence of death rate and empty shelves, which led to more disinformation, rumours and sensationalism, which increased customers' impulsive buying behaviour. Finally, risk of going outside, COVID-19 outbreak among employees of local retail stores, and health professionals' recommendations to stay at home, led to impulsive buying behaviour.Originality/valueThis study has constructed a research framework of customer psychology of impulse buying based on the results of this study and fear and perceived risk theories. The study also explains how the fear of fear, risk perception and conformist tendency enhanced impulsive buying during COVID-19 pandemic. This study has discussed specific implications for retailers.

The popularity and acceptance of online medium for buying and selling has increased both in terms of popular acceptance and widespread reach in every nook and corner of the country. A similar rise has been observed in the tendency of online impulsive buying behaviour too. Impulsive or impulse buying is unplanned and often done in a fraction of second over some human stimulus that is usually uncontrollable. There is no doubt to the fact that the exposure and inclination towards online medium as a buying platform has increased significantly over the last few years amongst all and its rise is particularly noteworthy in the generation Y. Today this young and well educated group qualifies to be an important segment for marketers. Fast food vendors use a sensory cue to trigger impulsive buying behaviour. Though impulse buying has gained interestamong researchers, little has been done concerning food in Ghana. The purpose of the study was to investigate thecontribution of the sensory cue on customer’s emotions and cognition and impulsive buying behaviour. The study findsanswers to the succeeding research questions: what sensory cue impacts on consumer emotion and cognition? And doesemotion and cognition influence consumer’s impulsive buying behaviour. A proposed theoretical model identifies visual, audio, and tactile dimensions as the sensory cue, emotions, and cognitive as mediation variable and impulsive buyingbehaviour as the outcome. Data were collected from 241 customers who were residence in Tema and have patronizedthe services of food vendors for a minimum of two years using a convenience sampling technique. The suggestedhypothesis was tested using structural equation modeling and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The result of thestudy shows that visual, audio, and tactile dimensions have a positive relationship with emotion but a negativerelationship with cognition. Regarding directs effect, the study revealed that there is a positive relationship betweenemotion and impulsive buying behaviour whiles cognition has a negative effect on impulsive buying behaviour. Thestudy recommended that managers must induce impulsive buying using characteristics of the food they serve and theenvironments in which they operate to stimulate customers' arousal and pleasure and provide enough information toalleviate the risk customers consider before buying food. The findings may not be generalized since the data wascollected in specific areas in Tema. Citation: Edward Markwei Martey, Racheal Markwei Martey and Kingsford Adenutsi. Abstract: Impulsive buying behavior is an emerging phenomenon in marketing literature and it affects consumers across the board. Impulsive buying is seen as the outcome of demonstrative reactions that breed the unexpected craving to purchase. Impulsive buying is becoming an important factor for retailers since they generate a lot of income through this kind of behavior. Due to the expansion of organized retail over the country, shops are trying to comprehend the buying behavior of consumers and try by all means that they trigger consumers to act in an impulsive way. Traditional buying behavior of consumers was seen as when purchasers made a list for purchasing products then depart to a particular store and purchase it. But now the whole buying behavior is changing due to the rise in the income level of consumers. This is giving the consumers more buying power, transformation in the socio-cultural environment way of life and consumption pattern. This, therefore, influences the consumer to act in an irrational manner which is known as unplanned buying without considering the potential consequences which may include non-usage of the product, negative economic consequences and feelings of regret, fury and fault. So the present study aims to analyze how uniqueness, price and past orientation influence impulse buying behavior are focusing on classical clothing brands like Nike, Adidas and Reebok. This study attempts to discern how consumer's traditional planned shopping behavior is shifting to impulse buying behavior. The study used a quantitative research method and analyzed the data by means of SMART PLS to test the relationships and the model. 350 questionnaires were used for data analysis using convenience sampling process. The outcomes of the research showed a progressive and significant association between the predictors (the need for uniqueness, price and past orientation) and the outcome variable (impulsive buying behavior).

With this objective, this research examines how display of the goods inside the store, appearance and helpfulness of store employees and crowd inside the retail store affect impulsive buying and such buying tendency among Indian shoppers. Using multiple regression analysis, it is observed that retail shopping environment considerably influences the impulsive buying tendency of the shoppers and this tendency leads to spontaneous buying. The results reveal that retail shopping environment and consumer impulse buying tendency encourage impulse buying positively. In addition, it is found that store employees have no influence on impulse buying tendency among Indian shoppers.
