During more than half a century, Psychiatry has extensively accepted a biomedical model studying mental disorders (including schizophrenia, affective disorders and the large group of stress-related disorders, including anxiety disorder. Thus, the classical dichotomy between functional and organic psychiatric disorders is obsolete and from a theoretical point of view there should be no obstacle for Psychiatry to deal with the study of dementias from gene to clinical levels using empirical methods, including neurotransmitters and scanning techniques. However, in many European countries, the dementias have been claimed as belonging primarily to Neurology, leaving the role of psychiatrists to treat psychotic symptoms and bizarre behavioral disturbances. However, psychiatrists have a long tradition of detailed psychopathological description and great skill in coping with the many psychological, ethical and social problems that are such important features of mental disorders and particularly the dementias, and so, the specific skills of psychiatrists will certainly be warranted in managing the many significant psychological and social problems of the patient both within the family and in society. The discussion must overcome the sterile debate between specialties to focus on the skills needed to adequately address the needs of patients with dementia and their caregivers.Disclosure of interestThe author has not supplied his declaration of competing interest.

A happy family needs to possess a balance between its interior and exterior needs. Such criteria for wellness in the family are also discernable from the voluminous writings of Muslim scholars. However, the reality is, Muslim families nowadays are facing great challenges which have caused moral disintegration, social problems and chaotic economic situations. The government of Terengganu under the “Happy Family Happy Nation” principle in its New Terengganu Transformation initiative has launched 10 special programs to address these challenges. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of the programs in promoting the wellbeing of families. This paper also offers suggestions for the betterment of the programs, in accordance with the real needs for a happy family. This paper concludes that the programs have partially fulfilled the requirements needed for creating a happy family. Nevertheless, there are several shortcomings that need to be attended to from time to time especially in terms of strategic knowledge, worship, premarital preparation and transportation. Keywords: Family, happiness, Malaysia, New Terengganu Transformation, peacefulness.Cite as: Wan Chik, W.M.Y, Md. Journal of Nusantara Studies, 2(2), 306-318.

The issue of promoting medications for personal or social problems involves a difficult balance between medical definitions of what constitutes a disease and consumers' perceptions of what they want or need in the way of optimal health and well-being. There are certain symptom states and conditions that are poorly defined in terms of the biomedical model of disease. Other conditions, such as child abuse, ordinary stress and tension (“pressures of life”), small breasts, thinning hair, mental fatigue, and certain personal and social problems of life are often considered diseases by some (e.g., afflicted consumers, health product manufacturers and promoters), but not by others (e.g., health professionals, health insurance companies). The key concern is who determines what conditions are diseases to be addressed by medical care systems and public health efforts, and what conditions are problems and concerns better addressed by the family unit, social welfare agencies, religious groups, or society in general.

This paper aims to strengthen the opinion or the concept suggesting that family roles are significant in the attempt to overcome drug uses, violence and terrorism in Indonesia. This is a qualitative research, in which sources of data were literary works, such as academic books and articles.  The article refers to Berger’s theory of social construction during the first stage in the process of externalization out of three stages: externalization, objectification and internalization, which lead to transformation of social actions, which then shape people’s habits. Meanwhile, in the effort to control Social Actions or control people’s habits, the article refers to preventive and repressive efforts, while in terms of the process of social control; the article refers to persuasive, coercive and curative efforts. Our findings suggest that three main social problems: first, drug uses, violence against children, wives, and husbands and terrorism are still main social problems in Indonesia, which require serious, substantial and sustainable efforts to find effective solutions. However, population growth also needs attention even though it is not as vital as others mentioned earlier; second, there are several important reasons and/or factors that problem of drugs, violence and terrorism persist in Indonesia, one of which is the failure of the family to take important role in guiding its members;third, based on our reviews of literature, we conclude that to maximize roles of family, marriage couples should be knowledgeable and competent in keeping their family runs well. For that reason, it is paramount important for marriage couples to educate themselves regarding their roles and responsibilities within the family life. This can be done through taking the pre-marriage courses for those who are about to get married. In fact, marriage couples should persistently educate themselves through many means and channels.

Family Da'wah is a concept of da'wah which is being the foundation and guide in building an Islamic family. This concept actually aspires to form individuals as "best of created beings", because pious individuals are born from Islamic processes, ways of life and families. At the next level, these pious individuals will become milestones in building a family that’s blessed by Allah – Almighty. Because of the family is a miniature of society, – at its peak – we hope that these blessed families will manifest "the best of nations" as mandated by 110th verse of Surat Ali Imran, so that social problems that arise from individuals and families can be resolved properly according to the guidance of the revelation and guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
