This chapter examines some of the most relevant HRM problems in generational transition of family firms and proposes a number of legal instruments capable of resolving them. Use of corporations as vehicles to run the family business is examined, also with respect to consequences of this choice in business transition. Definition and “protection” of family roles within the firm are observed. Patrimonial issues are compared to personal issues and their interplay is explained by reference to five different scenarios. Last, the possibility to “select”, so to say, the law applicable to one's succession under Regulation (EU) no 650/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2012 is explored. At the end, it is concluded that even if HRM in family business shows informality along with formality in designing business practices, generational transition of family firms requires structuring and needs be planned, appropriately and in detail, in advance.

Family roles are important consideration in diabetes management. The various psychosocial contexts within families, especially those with a member with diabetes, are very complex and play a key role in comprehensive care. It is important that all diabetes educators are aware of such family characteristics when designing an intervention. Diabetes educators are required to understand diverse types of family characteristics and should be well trained regarding such roles to support families with a diabetic member.

AbstractSchizophrenia is a mental illness that has a long-term impact. One of the symptoms of schizophrenia is hallucinations. Hallucinations are perceptual disturbances in which the client perceives something that does not exist. One of the things that families do is help family members by playing a role in assisting the clients in controlling hallucinations. The study aimed to determine the role of the family in reducing the hallucination symptoms of schizophrenic patients based on the available evidence. The literature review used Scopus, Science Direct, and GARUDA databases. Articles are selected based on the suitability of keywords, topics, as well as inclusion and exclusion criteria. The appraisal instrument by Hawker was used to select high-quality evidence. The findings of this study highlighted three levels of family roles in reducing symptoms of hallucinations in schizophrenic patients. The first level, the family must be able to see the patient's needs and maintain parental closeness. The second level, the family must be able to provide financial support for patient care, the family should be involved in groups that provide support as well. The third levels, all families must develop a good relationship to help patients with hallucinations to change their attitudes and behavior. Family roles are essential in reducing symptoms of hallucination in schizophrenic patients. This evidence can be used as scientific references to be applied as nursing care interventions. Keywords: Family Roles, Hallucinations, Schizophrenia AbstrakSkizofrenia merupakan penyakit kejiwaan yang memiliki dampak jangka panjang. This study explored possible changes in family functioning from the perspective of parents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thirty-four parents/guardians of children under 18 years completed a semi-structured interview, average length 47 min. Interviews focussed on changes in different aspects of family functioning including family roles, routines, and rules; parenting practices; communication and relationships; and strengths, challenges, and tensions. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis applied in an idiographic and inductive manner to reduce the loss of individual experiences and perspectives. Four superordinate themes were identified: shifting family roles and boundaries throughout the pandemic; impacts on routines and relationships; opportunities and resourcing; and, experiences of support and unity. Gender differences were evident across some themes, particularly changing roles, workload and work-home boundaries. Challenges and tensions were frequently highlighted, particularly by “vulnerable” family groups such as those with children with disabilities. Parents also described a renewed sense of family and community that underpinned adaptive coping responses. The results highlight the importance of family connectedness in times of need.

Abstract Family members are essential contributors to Q0L of LTC residents. This paper analyzes how the system views family’s role in residents’ QoL and enables or inhibits family involvement. Our analysis of 21 policies that regulate LTC in four Canadian Provinces reveal differences in their portrayal of residents’ families. In many policies, family roles are characterized procedurally (task-oriented) or relationally (interactive) by policy type. Operational standards (regulatory policies) linked to licensing employ more formal terminology, while LTC program guidelines use facilitative language to engage families and build relationships through voluntary means. Specific examples of orientation and admission procedures, care protocols including use of restraints, right to live at risk, and end-of-life care are presented to reveal inter-provincial variations. We argue there are opportunities to further engage families within the current regulatory framework.

Abstract Our paper contributes to studies on the enduring underrepresentation of women in elite positions through the analysis of elite members’ and their partners’ narratives on career and partnership. Using a dataset of 34 individual interviews (17 couples) among Hungary’s political, economic, and cultural elite, we explore how narrators project themselves in the context of their marital relationships and family roles. We identify three pairs of narratives during our analysis. Narratives show the positions from where narrators discuss the theme of career and partnership as elite member/partner, power couple/non-power couple, and male/female. Our findings show that narrative positioning is significantly gendered, and it is strongly connected to the traditional gendered role system. Having an elite position or pursuing a career calls for explanation only from women. In the meantime, a non-power couple position calls for explanation from men, which suggests the increasing presence of the norm of equality in the Hungarian elite.

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness with symptoms of hallucinations, delusions and inappropriate behavior. Patients require long-term treatment, but many do not adhere to treatment. The purpose of the study was to determine whether there was a relationship between family roles and adherence to medication for schizophrenic patients. Methods: The research design used correlation with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was 60 families with schizophrenia who visited the mental polyclinic of Ibnu Sina Hospital on 7-13 July 2019. The sampling technique used accidental sampling with a total sample of 52 respondents. Collecting data on family roles based on Friedman's theory and medication adherence using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. The research test used the Spearman rank test SPSS. Ethical Approval by Faculty of Nursing Universitas Airlangga number 1601-KEPK, July 17, 2019. Results: The results of this study showed that the role of the good family was 53.8% and the role of the less family was 46.2%. The medium level of adherence to taking medication was 42.3% and less level of adherence to taking medication was 32.7%. The results of the Spearman test are rho count 0.403 > rho table 0.271, which means that there is a significant relationship. Conclusion: The role of the family is related to medication adherence for schizophrenic patients.

This research investigated smart device use among young Thai children. The study likewise explored the relationship between smart device screen time, family roles in smart device use, and effects of smart device use. In 2020, primary data were collected through questionnaires from 1,100 primary parents of 2-5-year-old children in five provinces in Health Region 3. A Mann-Whitney U Test and Median Test were used in data analyses of the associations. The results revealed that 2-5-year-old children had an average screen time per day of 1 hour and 33 minutes, with 54.3% spending more than 1 hour on smart devices daily. In addition, 21.5% reported owning a smartphone, of which 55.2% accessed YouTube to watch cartoons and movies. In terms of screen time, 21.7% of the children reported unrestricted use. In terms of effects from smart device use, children being easily irritated and moody was noted by most parents (61.5%). In addition, variables under family roles and effects of smart device use showed a statistically significant correlation with smart device screen time. However, median screen time varied by each variable under family roles and effects of smart device use. The findings are essential for future policy planning, which will enable families with young children to become aware of appropriate smartphone or tablet usage by their children.

In this study, the researchers used quantitative analysis to examine the relationship between counselors’ work–family conflict, work–family enrichment, work variables, and family variables during the COVID-19 pandemic. Factors that predicted counselors’ experience of conflict between work and family roles included lacking work-place flexibility, having a child under the age of 6, spending a high number of hours caring for others, and experiencing a change in location of the work setting due to COVID-19. Workplace flexibility and a low number of hours spent caring for others predicted counselors’ experience of enrichment. Participants’ mean responses to the Work–Family Conflict Scale and Work–Family Enrichment Scale indicated they experienced higher levels of enrichment than conflict during the pandemic.
