Objective: This study analyzes the causes of death, survival, and other related factors in hospitalized elderly people with fractures over the course of one year. Methods: We followed 376 fracture patients for one year in a prospective cohort study to a reference hospital in central Brazil. The Cox regression model was used to analyze factors associated with survival. Results: The results indicate that the one-year mortality rate was high (22.9%). The independent factors linked to lower overall survival were as follows: patients aged ≥80 years with previous intensive care unit (ICU) admission and presence of comorbidities (diabetes mellitus [DM] and dementia). Conclusion: Our study results may contribute to a better understanding of the impact of fractures on the elderly population and reinforce the need to oversee age-groups, diabetic patients, and patients with complications during hospitalization.

ABSTRACT Objective: to map and identify nursing diagnoses targeted at night care users in a Psychosocial Care Center according to NANDA-I Taxonomy. Method: this is a descriptive-exploratory study, of documentary research type of 319 records in medical records. It was held in a Psychosocial Care Center III in Goiás, from 2014-2018. Nursing diagnoses and records were extracted with non-standardized language. Results: 813 records of nursing diagnoses identified in 53 different titles, in 10 domains, were identified. The most frequent diagnosis was risk for self-extermination. The domain with the highest number of diagnostic records was activity/rest. There was a predominance of diagnoses focused on the problem. Final considerations: mapping contributes to the planning of evidence-based nursing interventions and to the strengthening of professional identity in mental health. It is evident the need for practices that go beyond the symptoms in a preventive perspective, with a view to comprehensiveness.

Abstract Objective: To identify the main nursing diagnoses and interventions in children in the immediate postoperative period of palatoplasty. Method: Documentary and retrospective study, developed in a Brazilian public and tertiary hospital, between August and September 2020. Children who underwent only palatoplasty, between January and December 2019, aged between 10 and 24 months, were included. Those with medical syndromes and/or comorbidities were excluded. The Theoretical Framework of Basic Human Needs and the NANDA International and Nursing Interventions Classification Taxonomies were used. Data underwent descriptive statistical analysis. Results: The sample consisted of 126 children. Psychobiological needs such as oxygenation, hydration, nutrition, elimination, cutaneous-mucosal and physical integrity, pain and environmental perception predominated. Based on them, nine nursing diagnoses, with four focusing on the problem and five on risk, as well as 17 interventions, were identified. Conclusion: The use of standardized languages to identify affected human needs and, based on them, diagnoses and interventions, favored clinical reasoning for the construction and organization of clinical nursing practice.

This paper aims to identify nursing diagnoses and interventions related to the elderly skin pertaining to the aging process. We used the Integrated Revision (RI) method. The research to find relevant scientific papers was made in the CINAH, LILACS, MEDLINE and SCIELO databases, using the descriptors (Decs) nursing diagnoses, elder and skin. We selected 16 papers, in which 22 nursing diagnoses, 36 interventions and 15 skin alterations related to cutaneous aging were identified. Prevalent diagnoses in the researched papers were: impaired physical mobility (62.5%); impaired tissue integrity (50%); imbalanced nutrition: less than body requirements (43.75%) and risk of infection (43.75%). Nursing interventions were identified, such as: promoting/stimulating mobility (37.5%); inspecting the skin (31.25%) and observing for signs of infection (25%). Prevailing skin alterations identified were: broken skin (50%), decrease in peripheral tissue infusion (25%) and dry skin (37.5%). Formulation of nursing diagnoses, followed by the proposal of interventions related to skin changes were found in 50% of the selected papers. In the others (50%), we did not find these steps of the nursing process. The results of the RI allowed us to consider that physiological alterations of the elder's skin must be taken into account when making nursing diagnoses and interventions and that the nursing process must be used as a tool when evaluating the elder's health, as long as it makes possible the adequate planning of care. keywords Skin. OBJECTIVES: to investigate the principle nursing interventions/actions, prescribed in the immediate post-operative period for patients who receive lung transplantation, recorded in the medical records, and to map these using the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) taxonomy.METHOD: retrospective documental research using 183 medical records of patients who received lung transplantation (2007/2012). The data of the patients' profile were grouped in accordance with the variables investigated, and submitted to descriptive analysis. The nursing interventions prescribed were analyzed using the method of cross-mapping with the related interventions in the NIC. Medical records which did not contain nursing prescriptions were excluded.RESULTS: the majority of the patients were male, with medical diagnoses of pulmonary fibrosis, and underwent lung transplantation from a deceased donor. A total of 26 most frequently-cited interventions/actions were found. The majority (91.6%) were in the complex and basic physiological domains of the NIC. It was not possible to map two actions prescribed by the nurses.CONCLUSIONS: it was identified that the main prescriptions contained general care for the postoperative period of major surgery, rather than prescriptions individualized to the patient in the postoperative period following lung transplantation. Care measures related to pain were underestimated in the prescriptions. The mapping with the taxonomy can contribute to the elaboration of the care plan and to the use of computerized systems in this complex mode of therapy.

ABSTRACT Objective: To construct a nomenclature of nursing diagnoses, outcomes and interventions for elderly people under follow-up in the Family Health Strategy by using the International Classification for Nursing Practice and the theoretical reference of Virginia Henderson. Method: Methodological study developed according to guidelines of the International Council of Nurses. Results: A total of 127 concepts of nursing diagnoses/outcomes were constructed and distributed according to nursing care components in the subcategories of Biological/Physiological, Psychological, Social and Spiritual/Moral components. For these diagnoses, were proposed 551 nursing interventions. Conclusion: The concepts constructed may favor integral care for the elderly in the Family Health Strategy and the structuring of a terminological subset for this clientele.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the nursing interventions associated with the most accurate and frequently used NANDA International, Inc. (NANDA-I) nursing diagnoses for patients with liver cirrhosis. Method: this is a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study. Results: a total of 12 nursing diagnoses were evaluated, seven of which showed high accuracy (IVC ≥ 0.8); 70 interventions were identified and 23 (32.86%) were common to more than one diagnosis. Conclusion: in general, nurses often perform nursing interventions suggested in the NIC for the seven highly accurate nursing diagnoses identified in this study to care patients with liver cirrhosis. Accurate and valid nursing diagnoses guide the selection of appropriate interventions that nurses can perform to enhance patient safety and thus improve patient health outcomes.

Background: No data currently exist regarding the epidemiology of chronic inducible urticarias (CIndUs) in the ≥65-year-old population. Objective: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of CIndUs among elderly patients affected by chronic urticaria (CU). Methods: The medical records of all patients referred to us with a diagnosis of CU from January 2008 to September 2020 were retrospectively reviewed, and the patients with CIndUs were identified. The subjects aged 65 years or above were included in the study. Results: The number of patients aged 65 years or above was 153 out of 1970 subjects affected by CU (7.77%; 92 females (60.13%); mean age 70.96 ± 4.22). Out of 153, 26 patients (16.99%; 20 females (76.9%); mean age 71.23 ± 2.6 years) were diagnosed with CIndUs. Most subjects (25/26; 96.15%) suffered from physical urticarias. Symptomatic dermographism was the most frequent, affecting 65.38% (17/26) of our patients, followed by cold urticaria (6/26 (23.08%) cases). Conclusion: Our data seem to indicate that CIndUs may also affect the elderly, although it occurs less frequently in aging patients than in lower age groups.
