Objective: construction and validation of a systematization instrument for Nursing Care, characterizing the profile of patients of an intensive care unit in the north of Brazil. Methods: it was a descriptive methodological study that followed a nursing process model in five phases. Results: it was suggested that the instrument be constructed in two formats; one for admission and another for daily assessment. Some items were removed from the instrument according to content validation content by the nurses. Of the 45 patients evaluated, 60.0% were men, 44.0% were married, 40.0% had low education levels, chronic renal failure and cancer. The main nursing diagnoses were risk for infection (100.0%) and impaired physical mobility (97.8%). The main nursing interventions were: handwashing, changing intravenous access, performing aseptic techniques and moving patients every 2 hours. Conclusion: construction and content validation were carried out successfully, promoting instruments capable of providing quality nursing care for patients in intensive care.

Background: Proper use of nursing models and theories is an important step in improving patient care standards and quality of life. The growing trend of kidney failure and subsequent kidney transplantation in the country shows the importance of creating a proper structure in nursing patient care for transplant patients and recognizing the stressors that affect these patients. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the ability of the Betty Neuman model to provide a comprehensive model for nursing care of clients undergoing kidney transplantation. Methods: This clinical and clinical study was performed on the client of the kidney transplant candidate based on the application of Betty Neuman system theory. During the data collection, the interactions between the client’s five variables were examined and the stressors and resources in the internal, inter, and extra-individual domains were identified. Nursing diagnoses were created in accordance with the North American International Nursing Diagnostics Association (2018 - 2018) classification, and then nursing interventions were designed and implemented at three levels of prevention. Results: The results of the study of physiological, psychological, social, evolutionary, and spiritual variables, as well as interpersonal and extra-individual stressors, were 15 potential and actual nursing diagnoses. Conclusions: Designing and applying a nursing process based on this model is a holistic and systematic attitude toward the client that requires proper, efficient, and evidence-based nursing care but increases the need for nursing human resources.

This cross-sectional study was carried out at a university hospital to describe the nursing interventions most frequently performed in the clinical practice of an intensive care unit, based on nursing care prescriptions, and to investigate their similarity to the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC). The sample consisted of 991 hospitalizations of patients. Data were retrospectively collected from the computer database and analyzed through descriptive statistics and cross-mapping. A total of 57 different NIC interventions frequently used in the unit were identified; most of them in the complex (42%) and basic physiological (37%) domains, in the classes ‘respiratory management’ and ‘self-care facilitation’. Similarity between the nursing care prescribed and nursing interventions/NIC was found in 97.2% of the cases. The conclusion is that the interventions/NIC used in the clinical practice of this intensive care unit reflects the level of complexity of nursing care, which is mainly directed at the regulation of the body’s physical and homeostatic functioning.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the role of the therapeutic toy as a tool for the nursing diagnosis in the setting of care for the child with diabetes. Method: a qualitative multiple-case study conducted with children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes mellitus and living in the inland of Paraná. The data were collected in 2018 through interviews, field diary and sessions using the therapeutic toy. Nursing diagnoses were elaborated according to the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association Taxonomy I and a targeted content analysis was performed, resulting in four categories. Results: using the dramatic therapeutic toy allows the child to show their perception of the disease and of the care provided. The sessions with the dramatic therapeutic toy made it possible to identify five nursing diagnoses, which were later worked on by means of an instructional therapeutic toy. Conclusion: systematization of assistance mediated by the use of the toy allows nurses to establish bonds with the child with diabetes and their family, revealing their perceptions of the disease and treatment, thereby stimulating a more active participation of the binomial in the management of this coping process.

Respiratory failure is still the main cause of morbidity and mortality at the Intensive Care Unit. One of the abnormalities in the respiratory system that can cause respiratory failure is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). This condition is a respiratory emergency characterized by a progressive decrease in oxygen after a serious illness or injury. Critical illness and treatment in the Intensive Care Unit are a less pleasant experience for patients and affect the patients’ psychologies. The unstable psychical conditions of the patients during the treatments also influence the physical condition of the patients and it affected to the length of the stay, the risk for complications, and nosocomial infections. Patients’ ability to be adapted to the intensive care environment is one of the keys to the success of the nursing care for the critical cases. The purpose of this study is to describe the comprehensive and holistic nursing care management in ARDS cases at the Intensive Care Unit. One of the focuses of the nursing interventions, in this study, is the environmental and intensive care atmosphere modifications of the intensive care unit called the morning routine.

Abstract Introduction. The international standard for nursing terminology included in the ICNP®, recommended by many organizations and associations, can be used in the daily professional practice to facilitate the nurses’ selection of appropriate diagnoses and nursing interventions.Aim. The aim of the study is an attempt to show the possibilities of using the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) in the nursing care of patients with pneumonia. Pneumonia is an inflammatory process located within lung tissue situated peripherally in relation to the terminal bronchiole, leading to the accumulation of inflammatory cells and an exudate within alveoli, interalveolar septa and/or in the interstitial lung tissue. Usually, patients experience: cough, shortness of breath, pleuritic chest pain, and systemic symptoms: fever, chills, tachycardia, increased sweating, muscle and joint pain, headaches, fatigue, and sometimes nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Common nursing problems/diagnoses in the group of patients with pneumonia are: dyspnea, impaired respiratory system process, impaired airway clearance, fever, lack of appetite, risk for hypovolemia, lack of knowledge about the disease.Summary. The International Classification for Nursing Practice contains the most basic terms describing nursing diagnoses and interventions that are crucial in providing nursing care to patients with pneumonia.
