This article studies the use of field research as an anthropological tool in literary reportage which is a comprehensive element of the creation of journalistic content. Based on the examples of journalistic texts of the 20s by the Austrian writer Joseph Roth, we have analyzed the anthropological methods which were used by this author in his reportages, that is the main objective of this study. Using diachronic comparison, qualitative method and content analysis to evaluate and to explain the concept of Joseph Roth’s texts, as well as the methodology of textual, syntagmatic (by Volodymyr Propp) and paradigmatic analysis (by Claude Levi-Strauss), we have examined the generated meanings in the texts of the mentioned author. As a result of the study, we have identified four methods that Joseph Roth used writing his news reportages in the 1920s, including “In Midday France” and “White Cities”. Those methods are as follows: overt observation, in-depth interviews, fixing details and gaining empirical experience. The modern authors call these methods as classic ones, without which it is impossible to work in this genre. As we have seen from the examples of literary reportages of the French cycle by Joseph Roth, the anthropological tools used by this author for his works contributed to deepening and improving the quality of his texts which is of great significance for our study. Joseph Roth created a panoramic picture of the twentieth century in his texts through watching, communicating and studing. However, it is worth to add that he was often too subjective, suffering harsh criticism for this.

Progress in medical technology and treatment has resulted in more people with neurodegenerative conditions surviving for longer periods of time. This increased lifespan means that these individuals have a longer period of dependency on others, with a heightened need to maintain quality of life for both the individual and the family. Our paper reports on the findings of a study involving in-depth interviews with 16 carers to determine their perceived needs during the final stage of caring for someone with muscular dystrophy (MD) or motor neurone disease. Results suggest that the palliative care model has much to offer individuals with degenerative neuromuscular conditions and their families, but it is not yet recognized as an important part of care for young people with MD. Three major themes emerged in the analysis: reactions and responses, health system crossing points, reaching forward.

AbstractThe concept of filial piety is not static and is subject to interpretations. The concept of filial piety also has evolved over time and adapted to local cultures. In this paper, we examine the practices of filial piety among Chinese Singaporeans. Using in-depth interviews collected in 2006 and 2007, we find that the idea of filial piety still resonates among Chinese Singaporeans, though in some cases it may merely be symbolic. While intergenerational co-residence is not the only way for children to demonstrate their filial piety, most participants view it as the epitome. However, filial piety, as demonstrated through intergenerational co-residence, may be hiding other issues that are detrimental to the quality of life for all parties. Nonetheless, positive intergenerational relationships bind the family together.

The purpose of this study was to interrogate discourses of “popular music pedagogy” in order to better understand music education practices generally and specifically those in the United States. Employing a conceptual framework based on the work of Jan Blommaert (2005), a content analysis was conducted on a sample of 81 articles related to popular music and music education according to the variables of journal and nationality. Results suggest that international differences in discourse existed. American-based authors focused on issues of legitimacy and quality (repertoire and teaching), whereas non-American-based authors focused on matters of utility and efficacy, with an emphasis on the quality of learning and pedagogical relationship. The lack of awareness (national and international) of discourse features and functions may be limiting the effectiveness of both communication and practice.

This study aims to explain the implementation of the family’s religious functions in instilling the Islamic values to the children. The study was conducted in February - June 2018. The research method employed was the descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected using in-depth interviews and observations. The collected data were analyzed using the qualitative data analysis methods. The research subjects were 30 families whose parents had children aged 7-12 years and residing in the South Tangerang area. The research subjects were chosen using the purposive sampling procedures. The findings showed that 67.29% of the families had carried out their religious functions in instilling the Islamic values including the aspects of reading the stories of the prophets which done by the 60% of families, telling the family of the Messenger of Allah and the story of the Prophet’s companions which done by the 67% of families, teaching the names of the angels and their duties, and introducing the names of the scriptures which done by the 53% of the families, and the rest 32.71% of the family had not embedded the Islamic values in those aspects yet. Instilling the Islamic values as parts of the implementation of the family’s religious function was carried out in various ways according to the values which were implemented. Thus, the suggestion given is that parents as the implementers of the family’s religious functions have to learn continuously to improve their knowledge as well as to provide the sufficient time to instill the Islamic values in those aspects to their children.   References Al Qur’anul Karim. Abstract Millions of families are affected by elder family financial exploitation (EFFE), but the consequences for lifelong intergenerational family relationships and family functioning remain largely unexamined (i.e., parent/child, siblings). This study examines the consequences of experiencing EFFE on the quality of family relationships from the perspective of non-victim, non-perpetrator concerned family members (CFMs). Data from a larger EFFE mixed-methods study were utilized. A voluntary sample of 28 CFMs who had experienced EFFE participated in semi-structured, in-depth interviews and brief surveys. Analysis included identifying quality of family relationship themes from data related to differences EFFE has made in their family. Participating CFMs were primarily adult children of older victims, and siblings of the primary perpetrators. The findings reflect three patterns of changes in quality of family relationships between the CFMs and other family members, including: (a) Restoring trust and recovery within the family, (b) Alliances and taking sides, and (c) Estrangement and cutoff. While families were never the same after experiencing the exploitation, for some was a healing process to accept the family situation and restore and repair trust. Redefining who would be family moving forward was a focus for some families when perpetrators and CFMs took sides and formed allies with others. In the most dramatic changes, siblings, parents and others became cutoff and isolated from other family members. While a loss of relationship quality was common, strengthening of relationships also occurred. Understanding EFFE from an ecological family systems perspective can help to inform needed EFFE interventions, both processes and outcomes.
