Purpose: To assess the contact lens compliance rate by using a self-administrated validated questionnaire, the level of awareness, compliance & detectable behavioral changes, patterns or trends in contact lens users. Methods: A questionnaire ,Cross sectional prospective study to understand the compliance in contact lens wearers, the questionnaires were distributed randomly among the users at various clinical & optical outlets. Based on various studies, and taking into account time constraints the sample size of 40 was taken. The mean age of 24 years was taken without any ocular pathology and systemic disease affecting the ocular health. Result: The majority of 87% of the subjects studied, preferred the monthly modality and 13 % preferred conventional yearly replacement lenses. Considering average duration of wear 64% of the subjects showed non- compliance and prolonged their wearing schedules beyond 8 hours. 38% of the contact lens users were not taking optimum care of the lens cases. A majority of 50% of the subjects rated better cosmetic appearance the most important factor, while 25% of them rated cosmetic & better vision equally important. 68% knew the availability of extended wear contact lenses that can be worn during sleep. Optical outlets are the places where the patient is more motivated for soft contact lens. Conclusion: Cost and convenience are two factors that must be considered when educating patients about proper lens care regimens. In addition, compliance is more likely if the patient is satisfied with the medical visit.

Background: Refractive errors have occurred in many parts of the world, including in Indonesia, with different types of abnormalities, one of which is myopia which can be corrected with glasses and spherical contact lenses. Aim: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge of the installation and care of soft contact lenses in myopic patients. Methods: This research method is Cross Sectional at Optik Metro, the number of samples is the total population, the research instrument is a questionnaire, the independent variable of this research is the level of knowledge while the dependent variable is the attitude and behavior of Care and Installation with Successful Use of Contact Lenses. This research has been approved by the Widya Husada STIKES Ethics Commission. Results: The results of the study based on the number of sufferers and the distribution of refractive errors at Optik Metro from March 15-20, 2021, showed that the number of myopia patients who came was 13.0% with the type of treatment using soft contact lenses as much as 2.2%. There is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of respondents with maintenance and installation behavior with successful use of LK with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the toric soft contact lens installation procedure was carried out in the right way by taking into account a good fitting assessment. It is necessary to provide education to increase knowledge and education on Care and Installation of Contact Lenses for all customers. Keywords: Knowledge, Attitude, Soft LK, Myopia

Aim: It has been observed that potential beneficiaries rarely request for alternatives to corrective eyeglasses in our setting. The objective of this study was to determine awareness and attitude towards alternatives to spectacle correction, specifically; contact lens and refractive eye surgery among spectacle wearers in a resource-limited setting.Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 214 spectacle wearers in seven Nigerian hospitals using semi-structured questionnaire. Information sought included demographic characteristics, awareness, and attitudes to contact lens and refractive eye surgery as well as reasons for the poor interest in alternatives to eyeglasses.Results: There were 93 males and 121 females, with a mean age of 40.2 years (SD 15.8.). Most, 198 (92.6%) had at least secondary education. Ninety-eight (45.8%) and 113 (52.8%) patients were aware of the options of contact lens and refractive eye surgery respectively, but 171 (80%) were averse to wearing contact lenses or having refractive eye surgery. Reasons given included lack of information, high cost, and possible complications that may arise. Higher education was significantly associated with participants’ awareness of alternatives to eyeglasses (contact lens [P = 0.016], refractive eye surgery [P=0.009]) but not with willingness to use contact lens (P = 0.96) or refractive eye surgery (P = 0.425).Conclusion: There was relatively high awareness but low willingness to use alternatives to corrective eyeglasses among users. Education on alternatives to corrective eyeglasses, allaying fears on their complications, and making them more affordable could enhance awareness and create a more positive attitude towards them.

In this paper results of comparative study of the optical power of soft contact lenses (SCL) made of standard material for SCL and nanophotonic materials with different measurement techniques used for the final contact lens controllers are presented. Three types of nanophotonic soft contact lenses were made of standard polymacon material (Soleko SP38TM) incorporated with fullerene C60, fullerol C60(OH)24 and fullerene metformin hydroxylate C60(OH)12(OC4N5H10)12. For the purposes of material characterization for potential application as soft contact lenses, the optical properties of the soft contact lenses were measured by Rotlex and Nidek device. With Rotlex device the following optical results were obtained: optical power and map of defects, while with the Nidek device: optical power, cylinder power and cylinder axis. The obtained values of optical power and map of defects showed that the optical power of synthesized nanophotonic soft contact lens is same to the nominal value, while this was not the case for the standard soft contact lens. Also, the quality of the nanophotonic soft contact lens is better than the standard one. Hence, it is possible to synthesize new nanophotonic soft contact lenses of desired optical characteristics, implying possibilities for their application in this field.

Purpose:  To determine the awareness regarding contact lens related ocular complications among opticians of Lahore and to find out the relationship between the awareness and their educational qualification. Study Design:  Cross sectional survey. Place and duration of Study: University of Lahore from April 2020- December 2020. Methods:  This survey included opticians of different areas of Lahore, Pakistan. Two hundred and eleven opticians responded to a pre-tested, structured close ended questionnaire. Data comprised of demographics and contact lens selling experience. Information regarding awareness about contact lens related complications was also sought. The data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0. Results:  A total of 211 opticians participated in the survey. All subjects were males. Fifty four (25.6%) subjects were from the age group of 15 to 30 years, 122 (57.8%) were from the age group of 31 to 45 and 35 (16.6%) were from the age group of 46 to 60 years. Only 4.7% had contact lens dispensing diploma. Thirty seven percent patients had contact lens selling experience of 2 to 10 years. Similar percentage had more than 10 years of experience. Ten percent had less than one year of experience. Only 54 participants out of 211 had knowledge about dry eye, 9 knew about Acanthamoeba keratitis and Bacterial keratitis and only 2 were aware of corneal opacity. Conclusion:  Majority of the opticians of Lahore are unaware of the contact lenses related complications. Sale of cosmetic lenses for fashion purpose should be discouraged and banned if not prescribed by optometrist/ ophthalmologist. Key Words:  Opticians, Contact lenses, Bacterial Keratitis.

BACKGROUND Telemedicine solutions, especially in the face of a pandemic, have intensified their role in the patient-cardiologist contact. Entirely recognition of modern technology must be based on the patient's acceptance to be able to improve effective cooperation with the physician. However, the successful application of patient-centric telehealth services requires an in-depth analysis of users’ expectations. OBJECTIVE To evaluate factors determining readiness for telecommunications solutions in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). METHODS A cross-sectional study based on an investigator-designed validated questionnaire including 19 items (demographics, health status, medical history, previous healthcare experience, expected telehealth functionalities and preferred remote communication methods) was used. Multivariate logistic regression was applied to assess the relationship between readiness and their determinants. RESULTS Nearly 84% of respondents consent to the use of telemedicine solutions in the cardiologist-patient contact. Disacceptance to using telemedicine was two times frequent for rural dwellers, OR=2.411 (95%CI:1.003-5.796) and for patients without access to the Internet, OR=2.432 (95%CI:1.022-5.786). In comparison to studying participants living in rural areas, city dwellers demonstrated a higher willingness to use telemedicine solutions in particular function such as : issuing prescription (61,2%/83,2%), alarm at the deterioration of health (79,95%/61,5 %), arranging or cancelling a medical visit (53,8 %/75.5%). Contact by mobile phone was preferred by younger patients OR=2.256 (95%CI:1.058-4.814). Older people and patients who had no previous difficulties in contact with physicians prefer contact by line phone. CONCLUSIONS Patients with CVD are ready to accept the virtual solutions to contact a cardiologist. However, patients' expectations for telehealth services are associated with socio-demographical factors. Identifying needs in a group of patients with CVD may help to adjust telecommunication technologies for specific groups of patients

Introduction: Contact lenses are increasingly being used for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes, followed by subsequent contamination and complications such as keratitis. The lens case is one of the most common places to find the cause of contamination. Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the health behaviors affecting the lens case contamination and its relationship with the result of lens case culture which can help in prevention of complications. Patients and Methods: In this cross-sectional study that was performed in northwest of Iran, 150 asymptomatic participants were assessed for health behaviors affecting the lens case contamination and their lens cases were sampled for culture and antibiogram. Data were analyzed with SPSS-16 software. Results: The frequency of positive microbial culture in medical and cosmetic contact lens cases was 30.7% and 66.8%, respectively and 32.7% in general. Among the isolated bacteria observed in positive cultures, Alcaligenes,Enterobacter aerogenes, gram-positive Diphtheroid bacilli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis were the most common microorganisms, respectively. Conclusion: A significant proportion of contact lens cases, especially those used for cosmetic purposes had bacterial contamination. Failure to replace the lens case for more than 9 months and the mismatch of the lens solution brand with its storage case will increase bacterial contamination. Washing the lens case with soap and water, and drying it after washing, will reduce bacterial contamination.

This work presents comparative research of characteristics of a basic and new nanophotonic material, the latter of which was obtained by incorporation fullerene, C60, in the base material for soft contact lenses. The basic (SL38) and nanophotonic materials (SL38-A) for soft contact lenses were obtained by radical polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and fullerene, which were derived by the technology in the production lab of the company Soleko (Milan, Italy). The materials were used for production of soft contact lenses in the company Optix (Belgrade, Serbia) for the purposes of this research. Fullerene was used due to its apsorption transmission characteristics in ultraviolet, visible and near infrared spectrum. For the purposes of material characterization for potential application as soft contact lenses, network parameters were calculated and SEM analysis of the materials was performed while the optical properties of the soft contact lenses were measured by a Rotlex device. The values of the diffusion exponent, n, close to 0.5 indicated Fick's kinetics corresponding to diffusion. The investigated hydrogels could be classified as nonporous hydrogels. With Rotlex device, values of optical power and map of defects were showed. The obtained values of optical power and map of defects showed that the optical power of synthesized nanophotonic soft contact lens is identical to the nominal value while this was not the case for the basic lens. Also, the quality of the nanophotonic soft contact lens is better than the basic soft contact lens. Hence, it is possible to synthesize new nanophotonic soft contact lenses of desired optical characteristics, implying possibilities for their application in this field.

It is popular to wear the contact lens nowadays. Also, the output value of the contact lens is estimated more than 4 billion NT dollar every year. Because the phenomena of the contact lenses are very complicated, the relevant mechanisms are not well understood. Thus, the security of contact lens needs to be further investigated. In the lubricated mechanism of the contact lens, there is a layer of tear between the contact lens and cornea. The contact lens’ behavior is akin to that of a slider bearing. The lens represents the slider, the eye plays the role of the stationary pad, and the tear film is the lubricant. Hence, hydrodynamics and contact mechanisms of a contact lens are quite a fascinating subject that is relevant to the science of tribology. In the paper, the lubrication mechanisms include the partial hydrodynamic lubrication (contact lens roughness), contact mechanics and Newtonian fluid mechanics have been established. The parameters of roughness, flow factor, tear film geometry, and hydrodynamic pressure distribution are discussed. The developed technology increases the safety of contact lens.
