The field of Higher Education is advancing worldwide. This work aimed to apply a bibliometric approach on scientific publications about education in the sector of Higher Education, especially concerning the Brazilian ones. For this purpose, the database of Web of Science was used. The analyzed indicators included the Brazilian position worldwide concerning the number of papers and of citations, languages of publications and international collaborations. They were compared with other countries in MERCOSUR and in Latin America. In addition, the main institutions and funding agencies in Brazil were verified. The results showed that Brazil is the most prolific country in the Latin America, and it is among the most important in the world too. Most of the Brazilian articles were in Portuguese. Most of the Brazilian researchers were from public universities (e.g., USP, UFSC and Unesp) and supported by public agencies (as CNPq, CAPES and FAPESP). While most of the international collaborations happened with Portugal, Spain and USA. Besides that, suggestions of future studies in this area were indicated.

Increasing number of scientific publications points to quick developments in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Nanotechnology offers potentials of unimaginable proportions. Innovative possibilities present themselves in many areas of human activity, including agriculture, for example in precision farming, reduction of pollution and increasing crop yields. We bibliometrically assessed interactions between nanotechnology and agriculture. With co-word analysis in particular, we examined aspects of agro-nano applications related to plant protection. In order to analyze and map the structure of knowledge, we employed selected terms from a general citation database Web of Science (WOS) as well as specialized bibliographic database CAB Abstracts which covers life sciences with a special emphasis on agriculture. Our thematic maps (visualization) present some principal themes and relations among them. Pesticides, biosensors and detection are the main keywords in the network of words from article titles and network of the KeyWords+. Analysis of controlled terms (descriptors, classification codes) from CAB Abstracts in connection with pesticides shows two important directions of research: pollution and environmental topics, and topics related to human health, experimental animals and related.

Augmented reality is an emerging technology that has gained great relevance thanks to the benefits of its use in learning spaces. The present study focuses on determining the performance and scientific production of augmented reality in higher education (ARHE). A bibliometric methodology for scientific mapping has been used, based on processes of estimation, quantification, analytical tracking, and evaluation of scientific research, taking as its reference the analysis protocols included in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-analyses for Protocols (PRISMA-P) matrix. A total of 552 scientific publications on the Web of Science (WoS) have been analyzed. Our results show that scientific productions on ARHE are not abundant, tracing its beginnings to the year 1997, with its most productive period beginning in 2015. The most abundant studies are communications and articles (generally in English), with a wide thematic variety in which the bibliometric indicators “virtual environments” and “higher education” stand out. The main sources of origin are International Technology, Education and Development Conference (INTED) Proceedings and Education and New Learning Technologies (EDULEARN) Proceedings, although Spanish institutions are the most prolific. In conclusion, studies related to ARHE in the WoS have become increasingly abundant since ARHE’s research inception in 1997 (and especially since 2009), dealing with a wide thematic variety focused on “virtual environments” and “higher education”; abundant manuscripts are written in English (communications and articles) and originate from Spanish institutions. The main limitation of the study is that the results only reveal the status of this issue in the WoS database.

One of the strategic priorities of Russian science is indexation of not less than 500 Russian magazines in the Web of Science, Scopus and other global systems of citing by 2024. To achieve this goal it is necessary to change the idea of scientific and publishing community about ethical and other norms in the sphere of scientific publications. This problem cannot be solved exclusively by administrative methods, coordinated interaction of public agencies and public organizations is necessary.

English is used as a lingua franca in an increasing number of domains. In higher education, English has become prominent as the language of course materials, scientific publications, research, as well as teaching, a trend which is particularly noticeable in Europe. In Latin America, however, the surge of English is relatively recent, and within Latin America, Cuba is an interesting case. Whereas learning English was not encouraged in the 1980s, in today’s Cuba English has gained importance, and learning and teaching English has become a priority. The current research explores how Cuban students and lecturers of two different fields (English and Engineering) perceive the growing importance of English in today’s higher education in Cuba. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire conducted at Universidad de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba. The results reveal a positive attitude towards English, which most participants perceive as very important for their career prospects. On the other hand, it was found that most respondents overrate their ability to communicate in English. Moreover, they are not acquainted with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), even though the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education has accepted the CEFR as its official standard.

This study uses a bibliometric approach to analyze how the scientific production of entrepreneurship and the theoretical approach of the dynamic capabilities is corelated. With a sample of 701 studies from the Web of Science database we identified 88 articles concentrated in four different journals, pointing the most productive authors, the most cited references and clusters of keywords mainly related to entrepreneurship and dynamic capabilities. The results demonstrates that entrepreneurship and dynamic capabilities are two research streams that still need to have their relationships better explored, since the bibliometric maps demonstrated that most studies appear to have a main focus on dynamic capabilities but only addressing entrepreneurship related either to the entrepreneur itself, or to its entrepreneurial orientation, not exploring other important entrepreneurship issues. This work contributes theoretically by addressing a relationship still underexplored at the academy, thus encouraging future studies on the theme.

The Thomson Reuters Web of Science is a database that enables to identify patterns and trends in scientific publications, thereby enabling a broad understanding of the publications in the area of interest. An area that has been arising attention to the statistical community is the Bayesian networks, mainly due to the flexibility of modeling the data, both discrete and continuous, in terms of regression and high accuracy in the obtained results, that is, they are probabilistically promising models. The objective of this study was to identify and describe the main categories of the Web of Science that contemplate studies on Bayesian networks, check the publications over the years, identify the types of documents published, as well as the main funding agencies, the main authors, countries and languages. For the accomplishment of this study, the data of the Thomson Reuters Web of Science database were collected from 1945 to 2018. By means of search it is possible to answer several questions of interest, among them, if there are publications of Bayesian networks mainly in the animal sciences, more specifically in the formulation of diets for broilers. The results confirm that this area of knowledge is still very recent. The first publications took place in 1990 and the main publications are concentrated in computer science and no study was found in the prediction of the metabolizable energy of broilers using this methodology.
