This article reports on the findings of a qualitative research project, in which an instrumental case study with five in-service English teachers graduated from Universidad Nacional (UNA), Costa Rica was carried out. Hence, a hybrid continuing education workshop was designed and conducted, which was focused on promoting the pedagogical use of pictograms in the design of materials for teaching English. As the main product of the workshop, the participants created and used a teaching material which included pictograms. Among the main results obtained in the research project, the students’ facility, motivation, and speed to communicate their ideas in English by using pictograms stood out.

This paper explores self-plagiarism in three different articles that reported results of the same research project on reading in a foreign language. This article follows the qualitative research method and an exploratory case study was used. Results support that both inadequate paraphrasing and adequate paraphrasing were given. Regarding inadequate paraphrasing some similar words and ideas were found. On the other hand, using different authors in a specific idea, having different numbers of words in a common issue, and being versatile to present information might lead to adequate paraphrasing. Conclusions suggest that a dialog between editors and authors must be given in order to clear self-plagiarism up. Finally, conclusions also suggest that editors should consider the inclusion of some similar information in articles written by the same author or the same research members

This paper aims at demonstrating applications of qualitative research approaches in the subject of operations management (OM), more specifically in the practical field of industrial engineering. It firstly presents a brief review of research methods when using a qualitative research approach. This provides the backdrop for a content analysis of qualitative research in a research project in which a case study approach was employed. In addition, it analyses a sample of dissertations of a post graduate program in industrial engineering with regard to the qualitative research approaches used. These two cases highlighted are then used as the basis for a discussion of qualitative research in OM. The paper concludes that critical appraisal of qualitative research is needed and provides some recommendations for future work in this direction.

This case study aims to analyze how preschool educators can play the role of language educators (Spanish and English) and how their pedagogical and teaching practice is being transformed. This study considers the theoretical framework behind the constructivist paradigm, which states that the context, participants' actions and views, and historical elements all play a part in constructing a theory. That truth is relative depending on one's perspective, while also focusing on establishing a rigorous and thorough process throughout this study, focusing on qualitative research principles (Creswell, 2014). The findings show that preschool educators can significantly improve their communicative competence, particularly in discourse, strategic and socio-cultural competencies. Furthermore, through reflection and self-assessment, preschool educators refine their classroom practices and enhance their conception about teaching English to preschool learners.

In my thesis, I explore the constituents of an organizational crisis for Investor Relations and the capital market in Germany. The literature review reveals a research gap on crisis research for these organizational groups as well as on qualitative research in the field. Grounding my research within the hermeneutic phenomenological tradition, I conduct an instrumental case study on BP and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to obtain the required pre-understanding. I use secondary data by means of newspaper articles from three UK national newspapers. The findings from the instrumental case study guide the collection of primary data. I conduct interviews with Investor Relations managers and institutional capital market participants. I analyze the interview data using thematic analysis. A crisis that is considered relevant for Investor Relations and the capital market shows different characteristics than those relevant for other organizational crises. My study extends existing crisis frameworks by adding impacts and the perspective from a specific corporate function and the related stakeholder group. It offers a new conceptualization of crisis. Research regarding impacts on capital markets is often associated with quantitative research, using secondary data to assess effects on share prices. My research seeks to explore the underlying mechanisms of effects on Investor Relations and the capital market by employing a twofold exploratory approach. Therefore, my qualitative approach is methodologically relevant. I demonstrate that qualitative research can be applied successfully in this domain and obtain meaningful results.

In this chapter, the author proposes using the qualitative research method of autoethnography to improve one's practice in teaching English to students of other languages (TESOL). This chapter first includes an overview of autoethnography followed by discussion of evidence-based practices and learning activities that apply the methodology. The chapter then explores the method through a case study involving the author and her son. Through this autoethnography account, the author demonstrates the process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting autobiographical data to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our students. The case demonstrates how intersectionalities, including race and gender, have an impact on the learning experiences. In this way, this protocol has methodological and pedagogical implications for TESOL praxis. This chapter finally discusses the implications of this methodology in TESOL as a viable qualitative research methodology to gain new insights and understandings for TESOL educators.

The ultimate purpose of conducting this study is to explore teaching performance of pre-service in teaching English to young learners. This is an instrumental case study, using explanatory approach which scrutinize a particular case to gain insight to an issue or theory by involving sources of information to provide in-depth study. Furthermore the findings of this research is expected to underpin realistic aims and current curricular innovation for teaching English to young learners (TEYL). The findings of this study are classified into four aspects: Teaching Aim, Teaching Reflection, Teaching Approach, and Teaching Challenges. Pre-service teachers understood their purpose in teaching English young learners. Throughout the classroom observations and interviews, it was found that pre-service teachers provided relatable tasks for young learners; they focused on course objective; they established good bond with young learners before implementing the lessons. Their challenges in Teaching are to establish parent-teacher relationship and to identify learners’ learning skills. This study is expected to contribute insights to English language teaching area about Pre-service Teachers’ Teaching Performance in Teaching English to Young Learners by immersing into the world of teaching English to Young learners.

In this article, we argue that physical rooms cannot be replaced by virtual space without literally losing the student’s body and that experimenting with rooms and active learning is imperative for improving and advancing students’ learning. Our case study offers insight into a ‘soft room experiment’ without hard furniture or audio-visual equipment at one Australian university and makes recommendations that will be useful in many other educational environments. Our qualitative research project is based on feedback from students and staff as well as on class observation. Findings show that learning spaces need to be designed with appropriate pedagogies in mind, be multifunctional and ideally also multi-sensory.

This paper shows the results about a qualitative research project focused on the analysis of three juxtaposed points of view about the perceptions regarding the teaching of English guided by native and non-native educators in a private university in Colombia. This study is based on the theoretical framework and concepts related to the nature of native or non-native educators with a methodology and analysis of the three perspectives: students, a native educator and a non-native educator, their opinions and experiences are contrasted to determine the academic positions and points of view of each of the parties involved, in order to understand how to achieve a more meaningful learning process. A questionnaire, an interview and a professor’s journal were used to collect information in this case study research.
