Abstract: Background: Regular visits to the health care providers can develop a relationship that can extend beyond the physical health alone as the patient is transiting towards older age, adapting to changes in physical health, emotional health, and social connections. Apart from limiting access to health care services, the attitudes, beliefs, comfort level of the treating doctors towards the geriatric patients can motivate or demotivate them to access dental care. Aims:  To explore the Saudi Arabian undergraduate student’s perception of geriatric patients' and identify potential barriers that prevent the utilization of their dental appointment. Methods: A close-ended questionnaire with one question and eight reasons was administered to the 5th year clinical students. The students were requested to specify their agreement with each question on 5 points Likert scale. Among the barriers presented, each reason's approval was expressed as the percentage of the total number of responses. In addition, the gender comparison of mean scores was made, and an independent sample t-test was used to analyze the statements agreed by the students. All analyses were performed using SPSS (Statistical Package of Social Sciences) version 21.0 (IBM, USA) with the probability of statistical significance at 0.05 level. Results: Fifty-one students recorded their perceptions on the questionnaire administered during their clinical posting in the fifth year of the geriatric dental education program. It was concluded that students believed that geriatric patients give overwhelming importance to other problems with minor importance to oral health care. In addition, gender comparison was more evident as the percentage expressed was more in females. Conclusion: There is a need for more clinical exposure of geriatric patients during their clinical postings. Student’s acquaintance with didactic and clinical settings appears to be a critical element towards positive knowledge and attitude towards the geriatric population. Keywords: Geriatric dentistry, perception about geriatric, dental students, geriatric patients

e20722 Background: Due to the nature of the disease, caregivers of patients with cancer encounter high levels of burden and distress. Very little research has examined the needs of cancer caregivers and ways to address these needs. Health providers might overlook the emotional aspects of a disease and diagnosis, being occupied and busy with other aspects of patient care. Methods: Questionnaires with a focus on personal physical health, emotional health, care received, and medical care in general were handed out to patients and family members. Health providers were given similar questionnaires. Results: There were 45 participants in total: 18 health providers, 10 patients, and 17 family members. Similarities or differences between the attitudes of family members, health providers, and patients were found. Providers more negatively assessed the effect of a patient’s cancer on the well-being of family members than did patients/family members. Family member physical health was more negatively rated [P < 0.001] by providers, as was family member emotional health [P< 0.001]. Providers were also more likely to check distresses on the NCCN distress thermometer than were patients/family members. Responses were similar between urban and rural participants. Conclusions: Family members did not feel that the cancer diagnosis had affected their overall well-being in an overtly negative way. Health care providers believed that the cancer diagnosis had more of a negative effect on family member well-being. Future studies should look at attitudes of doctors/physicians versus other health providers to family member well-being after a patient’s cancer diagnosis.

Recent research has increasingly documented the adverse effects of ADHD on physical health in addition to its well-known effects on emotional health. Responding to this concern, CHADD organized a summit meeting of health care providers, governmental and other health-related organizations, and health care payers. A White Paper generated from the meeting reviewed the adverse health outcomes, economic burden and public health implications of unmanaged ADHD. Here we summarize the resulting Calls to Action to the various stakeholder groups including: increased awareness and education of providers; development of professional guidelines for diagnosis and treatment; insurance coverage of the relevant services; support of research targeting the role of ADHD in the etiology and treatment of physical illness; and public education campaigns.

Oral health care providers are expected to show good examples of oral health behaviours and attitudes to their community. Previous studies displayed the constructive effect of dental education on oral hygiene manners of undergraduate students. The aim of this survey was to assess and compare aspects of oral health attitudes and behaviours between preclinical and clinical dental students in German universities. The German-language version of the HU-DBI was distributed to preclinical and clinical students from different German universities. Dichotomized (agree/disagree) responses to 20 HU-DBI items were provided in this study, with a maximum possible score of 19. A quantitative estimate of oral health attitudes and behaviours was provided by the total of appropriate answers given to every statement by each group. Data were analysed statistically. The overall mean score of answers favouring good oral hygiene was marginally higher in preclinical (14.62) than clinical students (14.31) but showed no statistical significance. Similarly, the analysis of each item individually displayed no statistically significant differences between preclinical and clinical participants, except in a single item of the survey. This study showed no effective differences in oral hygiene attitudes and behaviour between preclinical and clinical students in German universities. This reveals a weak effect of dental education on improving students’ oral health attitudes in Germany and might demand the introduction of more courses emphasizing the importance of correct oral health behaviour of health care providers.

Research has connected sedentary lifestyles with numerous negative health outcomes, including a significant increased risk for mortality. Many health care professionals seek ways to help clients meet physical activity guidelines recommended by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the World Health Organization, and the American College of Sports Medicine in order to promote active lifestyles and improve overall wellness. Hiking is a cost-effective intervention that encourages people to be physically active while spending time in nature. Time in nature can lead to health benefits through contact with the natural elements, participation in physical activity, restoration of mental and emotional health, and time with social contacts. Benefits may be immediate, such as decreased blood pressure, decreased stress levels, enhanced immune system functioning, and restored attention, or transpire over time, such as weight loss, decreased depression, and overall wellness. Health care providers are ideally positioned to recommend and prescribe hiking to clients. Federal, state, and local natural resource agencies are beginning to partner with health care professionals to promote outdoor nature-related activities. Examples of successful doctor and other health care practitioner partnership programs are described, along with tips for getting started.

The objective of this study was to assess pediatric health providers’ attitudes, experience, and referral patterns with respect to therapeutic massage and acupuncture (TM&A). A written survey of experience with and attitudes about TM&A was distributed to a convenience sample of pediatric health care providers attending a regional postgraduate course in April 2002. Bivariate analyses were performed using Fisher’s exact test and the chisquare statistic. Pediatric care providers’ practices of referring patients to TM&A were associated with their own familiarity with and prior use of TM&A as well as their professed comfort level in discussing these modalities. There were no significant differences by professional status, gender, or years in practice in 42% of the respondents who reported making TM&A referrals. Pediatric health care providers’practices in referring patients for TM&A are positively associated with their familiarity with and personal use of TM&A.

COVID -19 is the most recent pandemic disease that has affected the world's population. We, as health care providers should be more responsible for reducing the transmission of this deadly disease. The aim of the survey was to assess the knowledge and awareness among dental professionals towards COVID -19 and reduce the spread among patients and co-workers. A cross-sectional study was conducted in a sample of 100 dental students by means of a questionnaire, using google forms, results were tabulated and analysed using SPSS. 24.8% prefer and rely on the fact that fever has been the main symptoms of COVID -19 while 32.7% of the respondents prefer on the fact that cough has been the symptoms leading to COVID -19 64% of the dental students are aware on the fact that patients should be checked on their temperature before the consultation. 36.3% of the dental students prefer no checking of temperature before the consultation. The results of the survey showed that some knowledge gaps exist among dental students regarding this very deadly disease and hence is an urgent need for training and conduct complete awareness regarding this deadly disease and control it by essential precautionary methods.

Fear of falling is a critical component in fall prevention approaches; however, it is often overlooked in the majority of fall prevention exercises. Alternative fall prevention approaches that take fear of falling into account are necessary. This article discusses fall prevention activities that are feasible for individuals with limited mobility who have an increased fear of falling. Health care providers should consider the degree to which a patient has a fear of falling and recommend activities that fit most to their patient’s comfort level.

<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p><strong>Background: </strong>Clinicians often face challenges in deciding how to treat osteoporosis in patients with chronic kidney disease. As background to offering guidance to health care providers, it is important to understand their practices and beliefs.</p><p><strong>Objectives: </strong>To describe the practices and beliefs of pharmacists regarding use of bisphosphonates for patients with osteoporosis and chronic kidney disease.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A cross-sectional survey of pharmacists working in hospitals and related health care settings was conducted. A 34-item online questionnaire was developed consisting of 4 sections: demographic characteristics, practices, beliefs, and comfort level with making decisions about osteoporosis treatment. An e-mail invitation was sent to members of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (<em>n </em>= 2499) in November 2012.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 367 pharmacists completed the survey. Most of the respondents were women (258 [70%]), had more than 10 years in practice (213 [58%]), and were providing care to 1 or more osteoporosis patients per week (212 [58%]). Over one-third (150 [41%]) stated that they would use a bisphosphonate for patients with creatinine clearance (CrCl) of 15–30 mL/min, but more than half (207 [56%]) stated that they would avoid a bisphosphonate (and recommend another medication) for patients with CrCl below 15 mL/min. Forty-eight percent (176/363) agreed that oral bisphosphonates could be used for patients with renal failure (defined as CrCl &lt; 30 mL/min), so long as dosage adjustments are made. More than half (206/363 [57%]) believed that the adverse effects of oral bisphosphonates increase for patients with renal failure. Respondents expressed a low level of comfort in assessing and initiating osteoporosis treatment for patients with renal failure.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Pharmacists had varying beliefs about managing osteoporosis in patients with chronic kidney disease. This study highlights the need for practice tools and targeted education addressing the use of bisphosphonates for these patients.</p><p><strong>RÉSUMÉ</strong></p><p><strong>Contexte : </strong>Les cliniciens sont souvent confrontés à des défis lorsqu’ils doivent choisir un traitement contre l’ostéoporose chez les patients atteints d’insuffisance rénale chronique.
