One of the elements in the selection of the “ITS Heroes 2015” to be the candidates for National Selection for Student Competition (Mawapres) is the ability of the participants to communicate in English in the form of writing and speaking performance. In the writing performance, the participants must submit an English abstract of their papers, and in the speaking performance, the participants are required to tell themselves in English. From these two evaluation items, the abstract is more interesting to analyze in terms of the writing errors the participants made in it. This paper presents the analysis of the common writing errors made by the participants of “ITS Heroes 2015”. The errors are categorized and analyzed based on the checklist items by adopting Kim (2009)’s error classification system, which is based on Dulay, Burt, and Krashen’s classification system.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of potato clonal families, and to estimate genetic variance, heritability and the expected response to selection of tuber yield and appearance traits in early generations. Twelve potato families were obtained from crosses between two groups of randomly-selected genotypes, including Eliza, C1730-7-94, and C-1742-8-95 in group 1; and Shepody, Asterix, Caesar, and White Lady in group 2. The crosses were made in factorial design (3 genotypes x4 genotypes), and each family consisted of 75 genotypes. Experiments were conducted in the fall of 2010, with a seedling generation under greenhouse conditions, and in the fall of 2011, with a clonal generation under field condition. High heritability estimates suggest that mild to moderate selection can be applied in the seedling generation to eye depth, eyebrow prominence, tuber curvature, flattening and shape uniformity. The C1742-8-95/White Lady stood out as a superior cross, as did all other crosses with White Lady, regarding tuber appearance and yield traits.

This review article presents information concerning treatment options for various pediatric epilepsy syndromes. The decisions made in the selection of antiepileptic drugs are determined by a number of variables that include, but are exclusive of, risk of seizure recurrence, patient age, epilepsy syndrome, known drug reactions, and prognosis of the epilepsy syndrome. The review discusses issues pertinent to antiepileptic drug selection including simple pharmacokinetic principles, antiepileptic drug formulations, and information concerning clinical studies using some of the antiepileptic drugs. Information is provided concerning the issues of seizure recurrence. Suggested paradigms for antiepileptic drug selection for partial seizures are provided. A table of antiepileptic drug costs is provided for assistance in prescribing and advising families. Psychosocial issues pertinent to the treatment of children are discussed. Puisi selatan is a small selection of Sydney poet Ian Campbell’s Indonesian language poems taken from the author’s larger collection titled Selatan-Sur-South of Indonesian language poems - which appeared in PORTAL in 2008 - but now supplemented, for the first time, with English language versions which have been rendered by the poet himself from the ‘starting point’ of these original four Indonesian language poems.   In all there are here now eight poems – four in Indonesian and four in English – with the common thread, for the poet, of being written ‘in the south’. For the poet also, they now interact, across languages, as a set of poems which consider the ways in which the actions of ‘memorialising’ are often intertwined with specific responses to the natural environment.   The poems ‘Semenanjung Bilgola’ and ‘Bilgola headland’ are poems reflecting upon the efforts the poet’s parents made in the late 1960s-early 1970s to restore the natural environment on a headland of one of Sydney’s northern beaches which had been donated to the National Trust. The Indonesian language original poem was read by the poet himself and by Indonesian poets in cities in West Java in 2004 and also at the first Ubud Writers Festival in 2004 by Indonesian female poet, Toeti Heraty,   The poems ‘Berziarah di Punta de Lobos, Chile’ and ‘Pilgrimage to Punta de Lobos’ are also memorialising poems and reflect upon the idea of ’pilgimage’ to a natural location near Pichilemu on the Chilean coast which is popular with surfers. In contrast, the poems ‘Simfoni angin’ and ‘Symphony of the winds’ describe the sights and sounds of a rural area near Purranque in the south of Chile, but here too the poet reflects upon the ways in which present evokes past.   The final poems ‘Buenos Aires’ - rendered as the title in both languages - explore the ways in which the Argentinian café becomes a place in which memories of the city are revealed anew through the processes of inversion of light and shadow, of internal and external shapes and sounds, as if through a camera lens.   Puisi selatan can be rendered in English as ‘poetry of the south’ as all poems derive their impetus from settings in Australia or in Latin America, specifically either Chile or Argentina. They were originally written in Indonesian as part of the poet’s interest in using Bahasa Indonesia as a language of creative writing.

To enhance competitiveness and protect interest, an increasing number of organizations cooperate on patent applications. Partner selection has attracted much more attention because it directly affects the success of patent cooperation. By collecting some cooperative patents applied for by different categories of organizations in China from 2007 to 2015, an interorganizational patent cooperation network was built for this paper. After analyzing certain basic properties of the network, it was found that the network possessed some typical characteristics of social networks. Moreover, the network could be divided into communities, and three communities were selected to analyze as representative. Furthermore, to explore the partner selection in the patent cooperation network, eight link prediction approaches commonly used in social networks were introduced to run on another interorganizational patent cooperation network built by the patents applied for in 2016. The precision metric results of the eight link prediction approaches show that they are effective in partnership prediction; in particular, the Common Neighbors (CN) index can be effectively applied to the selection of unfamiliar partners for organizations in patent cooperation. Moreover, this paper also verified the trust transitivity based not only on historical cooperation but also on geographical location, and the complementarity of capabilities still plays an important role in partner selection for organizations.

Visual analytics has seen unprecedented growth in its first 5 years of mainstream existence. Great progress has been made in a short time, yet significant challenges must be met in the next decade to provide new technologies that will be widely accepted throughout the world. This article explains some of those challenges in an effort to provide a stimulus for research, both basic and applied, that can realize or even exceed the potential envisioned for visual analytics technologies. We start with a brief summary of the initial challenges, followed by a discussion of the initial driving domains and applications. These are followed by a selection of additional applications and domains that have been a part of recent rapid expansion of visual analytics usage. We then look at the common characteristics of several tools illustrating emerging visual analytics technologies and conclude with the top 10 challenges for the field of study. We encourage feedback and continued participation by members of the research community, the wide array of user communities and private industry.

Population of domestic Simmental breed represents a dominant population of cattle in Serbia. According to importance of this breed, selection so far has been made in order to improve milk production. In other hand, beef and meatiness traits almost were ignored. Selection of dual-purpose cattle requires combining a various breeding goals and selection methods that are very differ from those applied in pure dairy or beef herds. Improving of beef and meatiness traits in our dominant cattle population will have great importance in future. The aim of this paper is to show possibility of selection for beef and meatiness traits in Serbian Simmental cattle.

Abstract Selection of large-fruited, high-yielding Cylindrocladium black rot — (CBR) resistant lines from two sets of crosses, each set consisting of crosses in F2 generation between a virginia and two CBR-resistant lines, was evaluated to determine the potential for selecting cultivars with these traits. Heritabilities, phenotypic and genotypic correlations and estimates of additive and nonadditive genetic effects were determined for yield and fruit traits at two locations and CBR resistance at one location. Crosses with NC 2 as a parent had higher levels of CBR resistance than those with Florigiant as the common virginia-type parent. Heritability estimates for the necrosis index (CBR resistance) were high while estimates for yield and fruit traits were variable over crosses and locations. The necrosis index was significantly and negatively correlated with all fruit and yield traits for three of the four crosses indicating it should be possible to select high-yielding, largefruited lines with low levels of disease from three crosses. Only significant additive genetic effects were found for CBR resistance. Significant additive and nonadditive genetic effects were found for the yield and fruit traits. Estimates of additive and non-additive genetic effects indicate that early generation selection for CBR resistance should be effective, whereas selection for yield and fruit traits would be more effective in later generations.

Dementia is a major public health concern that afflicts an estimated 24.3 million people worldwide. Great strides are being made in order to better diagnose, prevent, and treat these disorders. Dementia is associated with multiple complications, some of which can be life-threatening, such as dysphagia. There is great variability between dementias in terms of when dysphagia and other swallowing disorders occur. In order to prepare the reader for the other articles in this publication discussing swallowing issues in depth, the authors of this article will provide a brief overview of the prevalence, risk factors, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, current treatment options, and implications for eating for the common forms of neurodegenerative dementias.

Abstract. In the construction of scales intended for the use in cross-cultural studies, the selection of items needs to be guided not only by traditional criteria of item quality, but has to take information about the measurement invariance of the scale into account. We present an approach to automated item selection which depicts the process as a combinatorial optimization problem and aims at finding a scale which fulfils predefined target criteria – such as measurement invariance across cultures. The search for an optimal solution is performed using an adaptation of the [Formula: see text] Ant System algorithm. The approach is illustrated using an application to item selection for a personality scale assuming measurement invariance across multiple countries.

For centuries, naturalists were aware that soon after hatching the common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) chick became the sole occupant of the fosterer's nest. Most naturalists thought the adult cuckoo returned to the nest and removed or ate the fosterer's eggs and young, or the cuckoo chick crowded its nest mates out of the nest. Edward Jenner published the first description of cuckoo chicks evicting eggs and young over the side of the nest. Jenner's observations, made in England in 1786 and 1787, were published by the Royal Society of London in 1788. Four years before Jenner's observations, in 1782, Antoine Joseph Lottinger recorded eviction behaviour in France and published his observations in Histoire du coucou d'Europe, in 1795. The importance of Lottinger's and Jenner's observations is considered together.
