Active development of Internet communication in recent years caused an increase in the number of forensic text examinations aimed at identifying and profiling (i.e. inferring gender, age, personality, etc. of the author from textual analysis) the author of written texts. Despite the availability of proven methodological recommendations for the production of such examinations, in this area there are many unresolved problems associated mainly with the emergence of new research objects. In addition, the existing expert practice does not fully utilize the achievements of corpus, computer, and quantitative linguistics. In this situation, there is a gap between the "qualitative" and "quantitative" methods of textual authorship analysis, which hinders further development of both theoretical research in the area of authorship attribution and profiling and an increase in the level of objectivity and reproducibility of forensic authorship analysis. The paper represents some typical tasks solved by a forensic expert; describes the characteristics of the objects of forensic authorship analysis, and determines the main difficulties forensic experts face in the course of this analysis. The possibilities of using existing computer methods to solve these tasks are analyzed. It is shown that not all the existing computer methods are useful for forensic authorship analysis. We also highlight the ways of development of forensic authorship analysis related to further theoretical research in the field of idiolect using corpus data and natural language processing techniques.

This article sets out to offer an overview and a review of the latest linguistic research into fake news. To this end, the authors put forward a critical discussion of the paradigms and instruments deployed over the past decade to analyze and identify this textual (micro)genre, from natural language processing techniques to critical discourse analysis. The conclusion of our study is that a proper understanding of the fake news phenomenon can only be achieved by bringing together qualitative and quantitative methods.

With the large availability of bamboo in Indonesia which has several advantages in terms of material characteristics in its application to products, this research activity aims to explore the potential of bamboo with lamination techniques, so as to find the potential of laminated bamboo which is suitable for application to traveling bag products. will be appointed as a concept in the product of the means of carrying that will be designed. The purpose of this study is to present a novel design on a travel bag by combining natural and artificial materials by analyzing concrete data regarding the characteristics and techniques of processing bamboo materials that are suitable for the design of a travel bag. The study was conducted as a reference / source of information / theoretical study / data analysis in working on project design 5 and Professional Work. In this study, the method used is qualitative and quantitative methods by conducting observations, surveys and research on traveling activities and research carried out related to activities, characteristics, and means of carrying used when traveling. If the application and processing techniques of bamboo material are used in the right type of travel bag, there will be a novelty in the design of the travel bag

The paper attempts to define and measure factors affecting export of provinces/ cities in Vietnam, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. In particular, the former was conducted through in-depth interviews with 15 experts (including 3 academics, 7 export officials of Departments of Industry and Trade and 5 managers of export enterprises) in December 2018. The latter was performed using spatial regression model on secondary data of 63 provinces/cities from 2013 to 2017. The paper provides a new research methodology on export of Vietnam’s provinces/ cities (i.e. the spatial regression model). The empirical results show that there is a positive correlation between neighboring provinces/ cities in export activities, indicating that the good export performance of one province boosts that of its neighbors. The results also show that the export of Vietnam’s provinces/ cities is affected by GDP, import value, investment capital, and labor costs.

The article examines the current situation in comparative politics as part of general political science. The author concludes that the fundamental problems in this discipline are due to a simplified understanding of theory and methodology. In its theoretical dimension, political science lags behind the post-non-classical picture of the world, which combines randomness and necessity, reversibility and irreversibility, linearity and nonlinearity, dynamism and stability, and so on. At methodological level, the shortened understanding of methodology as a science of methods is prevailing, not as a way of exploring a subject by placing it in a broad meta-context. Regarding the tools, the irrelevance of opposing qualitative and quantitative methods and of reducing the whole range of quantitative methods to their specific categories is emphasized. Nevertheless, the forecast for the further development of comparative studies is positive, as diligent “laboratory” work is being done in many fields.

The article begins with a description of the triangulation principle in the social sciences. The main goal is to demonstrate the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods in the case of occupational professionalisation. The argumentation is built around the operationalisation of indicators of professionalisation of 63 occupations based on two different theoretical approaches, as well as the process of data collection presented in each case. The level of agreement of the two approaches is presented. In the final section, the findings are discussed, and outlines for potential new research in this field are presented.

The more the number of vehicles increases, the more problems that arise, for example air pollution from running engine activities and the amount of used tire waste from the vehicle. Waste from used tires can cause various serious problems if not handled properly. Used tires are waste that is harmful to the environment. This type of waste will be difficult to decompose by decomposing bacteria, this will be very dangerous for the environment. This study aims to analyze tables and sofas by utilizing car tire waste as the main raw material and in order to fulfill the ENASE aspect so that the tables and sofas made can be said to be ergonomic. The methods used in this study include qualitative and quantitative methods. Data processing techniques in this study used a comparison test and multiple linear regression test (ANOVA) to ensure relevant data. In the comparison test that has been done there are differences between all variables before and after and in the multiple linear regression test (ANOVA) that have been carried out there is no influence between the dependent variable and the independent variable.

The descriptions of capabilities of manufacturing companies can be found in multiple locations including company websites, legacy system databases, and ad hoc documents and spreadsheets. The capability descriptions are often represented using natural language. To unlock the value of unstructured capability information and learn from it, there is a need for developing advanced quantitative methods supported by machine learning and natural language processing techniques. This research proposes a multi-step unsupervised learning methodology using K-means clustering and topic modeling techniques in order to build clusters of suppliers based on their capabilities, extract and organize the manufacturing capability terminology, and discover nontrivial patterns in manufacturing capability corpora. The capability data is extracted either directly from the website of manufacturing firms or from their profiles in e-sourcing portals and directories. Feature extraction and dimensionality reduction process in this work in supported by Ngram extraction and Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) methods. The proposed clustering method is validated experimentally based a dataset composed of 150 capability descriptions collected from web-based sourcing directories such as the Thomas Net directory for manufacturing companies. The results of the experiment show that the proposed method creates supplier cluster with high accuracy.

The aim of this research is to depict foreign entrant students’ preparedness for studies in an international Master’s degree programme of physics at a Finnish university in order to lay the ground for a research-based development of the study programme. Interviews were conducted with the academic staff involved in the programme to investigate their views on the international physics students as learners. Conceptual tests were deployed to assess international students’ conceptual understanding of the areas fundamental to acquiring a solid expertise in physics. To enrich the data, a survey was conducted to obtain information about students’ physics-related epistemological views. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used for the data analysis. The main results suggest that the entrant international students comprise a very heterogeneous group with regard to their preparedness for commencing physics studies. The staff were specifically concerned with the international students’ pre-knowledge of physics, a notion that is supported by the test results. Suggestions based on present findings are made for further development of international degree programmes such as the one considered in this article. Keywords: epistemological views, higher education, international students, postgraduate studies, pre-knowledge.

Summary Due to the digitization of sources, humanities scholars have to develop new research questions and methodologies. This article theorizes the ‘digital turn’ by looking at three challenges: the necessity of combining qualitative and quantitative methods; the dilemma of multidisciplinary cooperation; and the ideological question of why and how the humanities should be concerned with a new digital materiality. We need the expertise of humanities scholars – their critical insights, analytical acuity, and knowledge of ambiguity and diversity – to make sense of a digital culture that permeates and directs our daily life.
