ABSTRACT Objectives: To analyze the abstracts that relate nursing to the Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality, published in the annals of the main national scientific events in the category, over a 12-year period. Methods: documental research carried out in the annals of the Brazilian Nursing Congress and the National Nursing Research Seminar. Data collection took place from July/2018 to June/2019 using a form. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Results: 99 studies were analyzed, and three categories emerged: Cultural diversity, emic perspective, and cultural context: possibilities for applying the theory; Incongruencies and peculiarities of the care sectors: limitations of the application of the theory; Knowledge production to improve care: implications for professional nursing practice. Final Considerations: the investigated scientific production enabled the construction of knowledge of cultural aspects related to nursing care and showed similarities and variations in care practices.

This paper examines the politics of knowledge production as it relates to Muslim women in western literary traditions and con­temporary feminist writing, with a view to understanding the political, ideological, and economic mediations that have histor­ically framed these representations. The meta-narrative of the Muslim woman has shifted from the bold queens of medieval lit­erature to colonial images of the seraglio's veiled, secluded, and oppressed women. Contemporary feminist writing and popular culture have reproduced the colonial motifs of Muslim women, and these have regained currency in the aftermath of9/1 l. Drawing upon the work of Mohja Kahf, this paper begins by mapping the evolution of the Muslim woman archetype in western literary traditions. The paper then examines how some contemporary feminist literature has reproduced in new ways the discursive tropes that have had historical currency in Muslim women's textual representation. Background: Despite the increasing amount of research on dementia stigma, there is a dearth of cross-national studies conducted on this subject. This is surprising since the experience of stigma is closely associated to socio-cultural aspects. Objective: The present study intended to expand knowledge about the impact of culture on dementia stigma by comparing the level and correlates of stigmatic beliefs about dementia among the general public in Israel and Australia. Methods: A cross-sectional study using an online survey was conducted with two age-matched samples: 447 adults in Israel and 290 adults in Australia. Results: Overall, dementia stigma was moderate in both countries. However, the level of dementia stigma was significantly higher in Australia than in Israel. Lower levels of subjective knowledge and higher levels of ageism were associated with increased levels of stigmatic beliefs in both countries. Gender was a significant correlate of dementia stigma, with male participants reporting higher levels of public stigma than women, although this gender difference was mainly driven by the Australian sample. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that providing knowledge and decreasing ageist attitudes should be key considerations in dementia awareness and stigma reduction campaigns despite the cultural context. In addition, developing gender-specific messages should be considered as a way of improving the effects of such campaigns.

Abstract Mapping Senufo: Art, Evidence, and the Production of Knowledge – an in-progress, collaborative, born-digital publication – will offer a model for joining theories about the construction of identities and the politics of knowledge production with research and publication practice. In this article, we examine how computational methods have led us to reframe research questions, reevaluate sources, and reimagine the form of a digital monograph. We also demonstrate how our use of digital technologies, attention to iteration, and collaborative mode of working have generated fresh insights into a corpus of arts identified as Senufo, the nature of evidence for art-historical research, and digital publication. We posit that the form of a digital publication itself can bring processes of knowledge construction to the fore and unsettle expectations of a tidy, authoritative narrative.

This article approaches a new biography of Frederick Bligh Bond by placing the subject’s life and career in the wider context of the formation of modern alternative religion. While acknowledging the rich particularities of Bond’s interests, attention is paid to the broader cultural context in which Bond lived and worked. This includes the modern cult and mythos of Glastonbury in both elite and popular cultural aspects as well as a wider social institution of seekership which shapes individual biographies. The article argues that through his seekership Bond was paradoxically more of a ‘type’ than his biographer allows and that his contributions to Glastonbury and to the New Age milieu should be interpreted in this light. My laboratory is interested in the cell biology of the synapse. Synapses, which are points of cellular communication between neurons, were first described by Santiago Ramón y Cajal as “protoplasmic kisses that appear to constitute the final ecstasy of an epic love story.” Who would not want to work on that?! My lab examines the biological mechanisms neurons use to find and connect to each other. How are synapses formed during development, maintained during growth, and modified during learning? In this essay, I reflect about my scientific journey to the synapse, the cell biological one, but also a metaphorical synapse—my role as a point of contact between the production of knowledge and its dissemination. In particular, I discuss how the architecture of scientific networks propels knowledge production but can also exclude certain groups in science.

AbstractThe why and the how of knowledge production are examined in the case of the transnational cooperation between the directors of observatories in the Far East who drew up unified typhoon-warning codes in the period 1900–1939. The why is prompted by the socioeconomic interests of the local chambers of commerce and international telegraphic companies, although this urge has the favourable wind of Far Eastern meteorologists’ ideology of voluntarist internationalism. The how entails the persistent pursuit of consensus (on ends rather than means) in international meetings where non-binding resolutions on codes and procedures are adopted. The outcome is the co-production of standardised knowledge, that is, the development of a series of processes and practices that co-produce both knowledge and ideas about the social order in a force field characterised by negotiations and power struggles.

Our critical epistemic review examines how researchers deal with the creation of knowledge regarding learning in organizations from the standpoint of cognitive interests. We adopted the epistemic matrices’ analytical model elaborated by Paes de Paula (2016), who handles the creation of knowledge based on cognitive interests and epistemic reconstruction, as an alternative to the paradigms of Burrel and Morgan (1979). The object of analysis were dissertations defended in Brazilian stricto sensu graduate programs in Administration. The identification of cognitive interests in the dissertations was based on sociological approaches classified by the circle of epistemic matrices, which encompasses pure sociological approaches and sets of overlapping closed curves, forming hybrid sociological approaches. The latent and clear content of sociological approaches were collected and analyzed using the qualitative data analysis software Atlas.ti 7. We conclude that the technical and practical interests guide the creation of knowledge regarding learning in organizations – putting aside the emancipatory interest in our discussions. We also conclude that, in order to make contributions for the advancement of knowledge, our study must go beyond the aggregation of cognitive interests; it is necessary to investigate the postulates of sociological approaches to which the interests are connected.

Trata-se de um ensaio teórico-reflexivo por meio da produção do conhecimento (2009 a 2015) das variáveis relacionadas à identidade e inserção profissional em Educação Física. Identificamos na literatura cinzenta problemática reduzida, portanto, há necessidade de intensificar os estudos em razão das transformações no mundo do trabalho e das dificuldades de inserção desses profissionais. Concluímos que as experiências no contexto da formação e inserção profissional não estão articuladas integralmente aos processos de pesquisa e construção de métodos e metodologias.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Palavras-chave</strong>: Produção de conhecimento.
