ABSTRACT Introduction: The National Rower Evaluation System [Sistema Nacional de Avaliação do Remador] (SNAR), adopted by the Brazilian Rowing Confederation, aims to establish a national ranking, and is a prerequisite to participation in National Championships and Selective Games, in its different categories, as well as for joining the Brazilian Rowing Team. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship and the prediction of the SNAR results with competitors’ times in a Brazilian Rowing Championship (CBR). Methods: The investigation involved 11 female rowers (18.00 ± 0.89 years) and 16 male rowers (18.18 ± 0.91 years), participants in a CBR, in the junior category. The research was qualitative, with content analysis of the data available on the Confederation's website. Results: In the junior female category, of the ten variables studied, three showed a correlation r≥0.50; in the junior male category, nine showed a correlation r≥0.50. The multiple linear regression equation, with all the variables studied, showed R2 = 0.86 and SEE = 5.30, in the female category; and R2 = 0.90 and SEE = 3.56, in the male category. Conclusion: Based on our results, the tests indicated by SNAR can be an important source of information, offering significant support for managers, athletes and coaching staff, for use in performance diagnosis and in particular, competition prognosis. It can also be used to adapt training schedule where necessary. Level of evidence I; Diagnostic studies-Investigation of a diagnostic test.

Abstract Purpose This mixed-methods study delved into the relationship between orthorexia nervosa (ON) and Instagram. Methods Two quantitative data sources were used: content analysis of pictures using #orthorexia (n = 3027), and an online questionnaire investigating the experience of ON and the use of Instagram of people sharing ON-related content on Instagram (n = 185). Following, interviews (n = 9) were conducted with people posting ON-related content on Instagram and self-identifying as having (had) ON. Results People who share ON-related content on Instagram were found to be primarily young women (questionnaire = 95.2% females, mean age 26.2 years; interviews = 100% females, mean age 28.4 years), who were found to be heavy social media users and favor Instagram over other platforms. Questionnaire respondents agreed in defining ON as an obsession with a diet considered healthy, with bio-psycho-social negative consequences, though those who self-identified as having (had) ON were more likely to point out the negative impairments of ON. Interviewees deemed Instagram partially responsible for the development of ON. Instead, they agreed that Instagram encourages problem realization. Content analysis showed that ON is encoded in pictures of ‘food’, ‘people’, ‘text’ and ‘other.’ Interviewees revealed that they started posting to recover, share information, help others, and they felt inspired to post by other accounts. A sense of belonging to the #orthorexia community emerged, where people share values and ideals, and seek validation from others. Conclusion Conversations around #orthorexia on Instagram generate supportive communities aiding recovery. Individuals use Instagram for helping others and themselves recovering from ON. Understanding how people help each other, manage their health, cope with symptoms, and undertake recovery can inform the implementation of therapeutic interventions for ON. Level of evidence Level III, evidence obtained from well-designed cohort or case–control analytic studies.

This research is a correlational study that examines the relationship between cognitive style and habits of mind. The research subjects involved 4th semester students in the Department of Mathematics Education at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training of UIN Suska Riau which consisted of students with heterogeneous academic abilities. Cognitive style data was collected using the GEFT question instrument with test techniques. Habits of mind data were collected using a questionnaire instrument with a questionnaire distribution technique. The data analysis technique begins with the Pearson Product Moment correlation test which is continued with the significance test and the calculation of the magnitude of the relationship that occurs using the coefficient of determination. Because the data is positively correlated, it continues with determining the linear regression equation. The results showed that there was a significant weak correlation between cognitive style and habits of mind with a relationship score of 6% and a linear regression equation y '= 36.35 + 0.31 x.

This research is a study of Ethnomathematics. In this case, we view Ethnomathematics as an intersection between mathematics, mathematical modelling, and cultural anthropology. The purpose of this study is to determine the average height of Bali Mula ancestors communities in the area of Ancient Caldera Batur. We use exploration, observation, experimentation, documentation, and interviews method. In the initial stage of the study, we determine the relationship between the finger length index and the height body of Bali Mula male. The linear regression equation expresses the relationship, which is a length of the index finger as a predictor variable. Moreover, measure the pillars width of some houses Saka Roras and substituting it, we have the regression equation. Consequently, we estimate the average height of the Bali Mula ancestors in Kintamani area are 165 cm. Since it contains linier regression concepts, prediction the average height of Bali Mula ancestors from their traditional homes may be used as the context in mathematical (statistical) learning at school or university.

The filtration effect of automobile engine oil filter materials have two different expression index, such as nominal filtration accuracy and absolute filtration accuracy. In fact, the nominal filtration accuracy is labeled by manufacturer, however, the absolute filtration accuracy is needed experiment testing only to know. After testing the absolute filtration accuracy of these ten kinds of oil filter materials,it is turned out that there is an obvious difference between these two filtration accuracy. So this paper is based on the results of the two filtration precision and established a linear regression equation of absolute filtration accuracy=2.922+0.631×nominal filtration accuracy. If only knowing of the nominal filtration accuracy of oil filter materials, then the absolute filtration accuracy can be computed from the linear regression equation instead of experimental testing of absolute filtration accuracy. What’s more, this linear regression equation is easy and simple and has some application value and practical significance.

Undiluted tomato petiole sap from a variety by K rate experiment (48 treatment rep combinations) was used to measure K concentration via the battery operated portable Cardy meter and ICP laboratory instrumentation. Three sample 1998 dates, 16 July., 21 Aug., and 8 Sept., resulted in K sap readings by ICP of 3917, 2612, and 2297 ppm, respectively. At sap levels below 3000 ppm the linear Cardy:ICP correlation was r = 0.04, but above 3000 ppm only 0.53. From 3500 to 5000 ppm K the Cardy meter under estimated actual sap K by 200 to 900 ppm. For the years 1999 and 2001, tomato petiole sap at each sample date (4) was diluted 1:1 with deionized water. The linear regression equation describing the relationship between ICP and Cardy meter measurements was: Cardy K ppm = 0.733 * ICP + 685 (r = 0.92, n = 190). The Cardy meter error over the 2000 to 5000 ppm K range was 8 to 12%. Petiole sap K, measured by either Cardy or ICP, was highly correlated to whole leaf K concentration both years. But even though the slope of the regression lines was similar the intercepts were significantly different (P≤.01). The significant 0.32% K difference in whole leaf between years precluded the development of a common regression line to predict whole leaf K from Cardy petiole sap determinations. The Cardy meter can be reliably used for tomato petiole K determination provided the sap is diluted and the usual handling precautions are taken to prevent petiole moisture loss.

A method to evaluate the octane number of automobile gasoline by proton magnetic resonance (PMR) spectrometry has been studied. Twelve samples of marketed winter gasoline, whose octane numbers and compositions were identified according to the ASTM standards, and high-olefin gasoline were used to supplement the insufficient coverage of a previous report with additional data. Then, a linear regression equation regarding the relationship between the octane number and PMR data was prepared from the PMR spectra of the 21 samples used for the previous report, whose octane numbers were known, and the 12 samples used this time. Further, the appropriateness of the regression equation was assessed. This report concerns the results of a study in which the scope of the previous study, lacking sufficient data, has been supplemented with additional data to improve the accuracy of the visual estimation of the octane number using the pattern recognition method. Also, a linear regression equation was obtained and found useful for octane number estimation.

Faas states that a linear regression equation relating sediment porosity and acoustic reflectivity was derived empirically from data previously published by several investigators. The distinction between empirically and theoretically derived relationships is important because empirically derived relationships can be used for predictive purposes with far greater confidence than theoretical ones. The weight of observational data stands behind empirical relationships, while theoretical relationships are untested by observation.
