ABSTRACT Purpose: This paper aims to analyze the attractiveness of the markets in the inland of Brazil to franchise chains based on the characteristics of institutional environment, referring to the socioeconomic, geographical, and human resources dimensions. Originality/value: Interiorization is a theme that has been hardly explored in franchise chains’ growth strategies. This paper contributes to this debate through the institutional theoretical perspective, contributing to the clarification and ordering of the decision-making factors for the regional expansion of franchises. For regional development, it calls for municipal management to direct actions aimed at socioeconomic development and human resources. Design/methodology/approach: The quantitative method using secondary data - from Brazilian Association of Franchising (Associação Brasileira de Franchising [ABF]), Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (Associação Brasileira de Shopping Centers [Abrasce]), Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística [IBGE]) and Google Maps - was employed in this study for the analysis of franchise location and for municipalities. The sample comprised 458 municipalities with a populaion of above 50 thousand inhabitants. The statistical techniques used were factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. Findings: The results show that the socioeconomic and human resources factors of the municipalities are essential for the attractiveness of franchises chains to the inland of the country. In turn, the geographical distance of the inland municipality in relation to the state capital did not present adherence to the model as an explanation for the attraction of franchises.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand and identify the various characteristics of the institutional environment and the factors that propitiate the attraction of franchise chains to cities in the interior, using Brazil as an analysis. Design/methodology/approach Secondary data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics were used. It comprised a sample of 1,683 Brazilian cities with commercial outlets featuring franchise brands. It was limited to cities with populations of up to 100,000 inhabitants that did not constitute metropolitan regions. The statistical technique performed was multiple regression. Findings The results of the multiple regression confirm the explanatory power of R² = 36% for the analyzed model. Such presence of franchise chains is based on four institutional dimensions and their environmental characteristics: demographic (demographic density); economic and financial (average monthly salary of formal workers and number of banking agencies); business (number of active companies and presence of shopping centers); and human resources (presence of higher education units). Research limitations/implications The main contribution of the study encompasses the call that regional institutional characteristics are part of knowledge guidelines on regional development and institutional environments for entrepreneurship. In this sense, the paper contributes to studies on regional development in particular, by punctuating the characteristics of the institutional environment of cities that are related to the existence of franchise chain brands. Practical implications Such contributions are addressed to managers and directors of expanding franchise chains, given the choice of locations that best enable the concept of their franchises. The fact that only 20% of franchises have a presence in these cities, even if it is admitted that for 70% of these chains, their businesses have the capacity to make these locations viable, shows the importance of this contribution. Social implications This study is addressed to public managers, represented by secretaries of municipal developments, in view of the construction of an institutional environment conducive to entrepreneurial activity, in this specific case, by franchises. It is an important mechanism for attracting new businesses and creating a virtuous cycle of regional development. Originality/value Specifically, knowledge is generated about the insertion of ventures based on the franchise business model in small- and medium-sized regional markets. A second feature involves the understanding of the insertion of enterprises in a large and heterogeneous emerging market.

This study aims to identify and analyze opportunities, challenges, constraints and efforts of vocational high school or Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) to create graduates especially accounting programs that are able to manage village funds. The object of the study are accounting program students of SMK PGRI 2 Cibinong. Data used in this study are primary data and secondary data. Data is collected using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis methods use data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of this study show that the SMK PGRI 2 Cibinong Bogor aware of the opportunities for SMK graduates of the accounting program to fill the scarcity of skilled human resources to manage village funds. But teachers have less experience in the practice of village fund accounting so that they do not have confidence in  teaching. Other constraints are less discussion of government accounting in the accounting syllabus and the absence of a standard handbook/module for teachers to teach accounting subjects.

This study aims to explain the effect of human resources and infrastructure quality on investment growth in the Economic and Business Faculty (FEBI IDX Investment Gallery) IAIN Lhokseumawe. Data were collected using secondary data, and multiple regression was used to test the hypotheses. The results show that only investment has a significant effect on investment growth. The implications are infrastructure development have an important role to support investment and the number of potential investors in investing in the Islamic capital market.

PurposeThe study contributes to the aim of regional development policy in reducing regional disparities, by examining the spatial balance in socioeconomic development across the states of Malaysia based on composite development index (CDI). Besides, the study has attempted to understand the issues in the development gaps across Malaysian states by evaluating the factors that explain the variation in economic growthDesign/methodology/approachThis study uses three-stage least squares (3SLS) and bootstrap sampling and estimation techniques to examine the factors that explain the variations in the growth of development across the states in Malaysia. The analysis involves 13 states in Malaysia (Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Perlis, Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak) from 2005 to 2015.FindingsThe pattern in the spatial socioeconomic imbalance demonstrates a decreasing trend. However, the development index reveals that the performance of less developed states remained behind that of the developed states. The significant factors in explaining the variation in growth across the Malaysian states are relating to agriculture, manufacturing, human capital, population growth, Chinese ethnicity, institutional factors and natural resources.Research limitations/implicationsThe authors focused on Malaysian states over the period between 2005 and 2015. The authors encountered some limitations in obtaining relevant data such as international factors and technological change that might also explain the variation in economic growth as the data on these variables are not reported at the state level. Moreover, the data on GSDP by sector was only available from the year 2005. Second, the study is based on secondary data. Future studies might examine the factors that contribute to the development gap across Malaysian states through interviews or questionnaires and compare the findings with the existing results. Despite its limitations, this study contributes to the existing literature that emphasizes on spatial balance of socioeconomic in a developing country, focusing on Malaysian states.Practical implicationsThese findings provide guidance for policymakers by understanding key potential areas to reduce the disparity in economic growth across Malaysian states by understanding their impact on the growth.Originality/valueThis study employs different method of 3SLS and bootstrap sampling and estimation techniques in examining the factors that explain the variations in the growth of development across the states in Malaysia.

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (DRL) was one of India’s success stories in the pharma space, wherein a founder’s dream turned into a reality. It had a remarkable growth over three decades, with impeccable quality and regulatory standards, as it went on to become the number-two pharma company in India by sales. However, in the last 3 years, DRL was navigating one of the most challenging times it had ever faced for various reasons. Sales were stagnated, profits had plunged, costs had spiralled and manufacturing sites grappled with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issues—and more importantly, its growth strategies were not delivering results. This resulted in value erosion, reduced number of new product approvals, customers doubting the capabilities, competitors doing much better, etc. Also, it questioned whether DRL continued to be the bellwether or not for the Indian pharma fraternity as competitors raced ahead. This case highlights the global and Indian context of the pharma industry, along with details of three main competitors based on secondary data sources, and analyses the ongoing issues in DRL. Finally, it concludes by highlighting the six decision buckets and the way forward to make DRL a bellwether again in the Indian pharma industry.

The goal of our study was to provide a situation analysis of clinical psychology services in South Africa’s public rural primary healthcare sector. In this setting, the treatment gap between human resources for and the burden of disease for mental illness is as high as 85%. The majority of South Africa’s mental health specialists – clinical psychologists and psychiatrists – practice in the country’s urban and peri-urban private sector. At the advent of South Africa’s democracy, public clinical psychological services were negligible, and the country is still facing challenges in providing human resources. The study was based on the analysis of both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected by interviewing the heads of 160 public hospitals classified as rural by the Department of Health, while secondary data comprised a literature review. The number of clinical psychologists working in the public sector indicated a substantial growth over the last 20 years, while the number employed and/or doing out-reach to public rural primary healthcare areas shows a shortfall. Clinical psychology’s numbers, however, compare favourably to that of other mental health specialists in public rural primary healthcare settings. Since the National Mental Health Summit of 2012, strategies have been implemented to improve access to mental health care. In clinical psychology’s case relating to human resources, these strategies have showed encouraging results with a substantial amount of participating institutions reporting that clinical psychologists form a part of their proposed future staff establishment.

 The purpose of this study is to find out what preventative measures to prevent violence between convicts in existing correctional institutions. Penitentiary has a very strategic role in the framework of developing human resources, the implementation of guiding convicts including how conducive conditions are created in their implementation. The method used is normative and empirical juridical methods, namely research emphasizing secondary data by studying and reviewing riot prevention efforts, especially positive legal rules derived from library materials that exist in the legislation regulations, namely Law No. 12 of 1995 concerning Corrections and other related laws. This study uses descriptive analysis research, which is a study that describes and describes the situation or facts that exist about efforts to prevent violence between prisoners in prison and detention centers in Indonesia. The results of this study are known that in correctional institutions the reality is constrained by several things such as, inadequate prison facilities and detention centers, the number of employees or officers who are not in accordance with the number of convicts, the number of convicts that exceeds capacity, the lack of supervision also caused an easy commotion inside the correctional institutes and detention center.

AbstrakPenelitian ini sendiri bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa jauh pengaruh pengembangan SDM, iklim kerja dan berbagi pengetahuan terhadap kreativitas SDM di PT. GAS (Gemalindo Air Support) Batam. Perumusan masalah, tujuan penelitian ini dan hipotesis pada penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan secara individual antara variabel independen yaitu pengembangan SDM, iklimkerja dan berbagi pengetahuan terhadap variabel dependen yaitu kreativitas SDM di PT. GAS (Gemalindo Air Support) Batam. Pada penelitian ini objek yang diambil adalah karyawan GAS (Gemalindo Air Support) Batam. Sumber data meliputi data primer dan data sekunder. Sampel pada penelitian ini berjumlah 100 responden yang merupakan karyawan PT. GAS (Gemalindo Air Support) Batam melalui teknik nonprobability sampling yaitu dengan tidak menggunakan metode sampling. Teknik analisis datanya adalah teknik regresi linier berganda.Kata Kunci :  Optimalisasi Pengembangan SDMAbstractThis study itself aims to find out how far the influence of human resource development, work climate and knowledge sharing on the creativity of human resources in PT. GAS (Gemalindo Air Support) Batam. In this research object is taken employee GAS (Gemalindo Air Support) Batam. Data sources include primary data and secondary data. The sample in this study amounted to 100 respondents who are employees of PT. GAS (Gemalindo Air Support) Batam through nonprobability sampling technique is not by using the method of sampling. Significant debates on the role of human resources have been shifted from organizational assets to initiator of innovation and competitive advantages. A current research has investigated suggestive roles of intellectual capital (IC) in strategic human resource management (SHRM) process and human research management (HRM) practices. Conversely, others have shown that the successful management of IC has related to implementation of knowledge management (KM). In turn, those perspectives suggest the implementation and usage of KM ensure the growth of IC, and the innovative IC may become an effective human resources strategies and practices to acquire innovation and competitive advantages. Through a comprehensive analysis of the latest journals on those concepts, this study argues that human resource strategies and practices involving KM and management of IC give potential oppurtunities to gain innovation and competitive advantages. Besides, this theoretical perspective suggests organizational culture and leadership style are interrelated to the process.

<p>Penelitian ini di latarbelakangi dengan adanya Undang-Undang Nomor 23 Tahun 2014</p><p align="center">Pedoman dan Tata Cara Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah (DPRD) menerima laporan hasil pemeriksaan  audit  keuangan  pemerintah  provinsi  oleh  Badan  Pemeriksa  Keuangan  (BPK),</p><p align="center">mewajibkan  bagi  pemerintah  daerah  agar  melakukan  kegiatannya  berdasarkan  tugas  dan tanggung  jawab  dari  pejabat  yang  berwenang.  Dalam  penelitian  ini  akan  melihat  tentang</p><p align="center">kewenangan DPRD Provinsi jawa Tengah dalam menerima laporan hasil audit BPK, kendala</p><p align="center">DPRD dalam menerima laporan hasil audit BPK dan upaya mengatasinya. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah yuridis sosiologis dengan spesifikasinya deskriptif analitis. Metode penentuan</p><p align="center">sampelnya  adalah  <em>purposive  sampling</em>.  Data  yang  dipergunakan  adalah  data  primer  yang</p><p align="center">diperoleh  melalui wawancara didukung dengan  data sekunder,  kemudian  di  analisis  secara kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kewenangan DPRD Provinsi Jawa Tengah dalam</p><p align="center">menerima laporan hasil audit BPK sudah maksimal. Tetapi belum terlaksana dengan baik yaitu</p><p>terdapat kendala dalam internal adalah tenggang waktu pembahasan yang sedikit, minimnya rancangan undang-undang, kurangnya sumber daya manusia, kurangnya proses pencatatan mengenai aset daerah, upaya dari jawaban kendala internal, berpedoman pada perundang- undangan, melakukan pembahasan bersama Gubernur, menambah aspek regulasi, SDM, dan teknologi informasi, memberi sanksi/menindak lanjuti panitia kerja yang lalai mencatat pengeluaran aset daerah.</p><p><em>This research is in background with the existence of Law Number 23 Year 2014 The Guidelines and Procedures of the Regional People's Legislative Assembly (DPRD) receive reports on the audit results of the provincial government's financial audit by the Supreme Audit Board (BPK), requiring local governments to perform their activities based on their duties and responsibility of the competent authority. In this research will see about the authority of Central Java Provincial DPRD in receiving BPK audit report result, obstacle of DPRD in receiving report of BPK audit result and effort to overcome it. The type of research used is sociological juridical with descriptive analytical specification. The method of determining the sample is purposive sampling. The data used are primary data obtained through interviews supported by secondary data, then analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the authority of Central Java Provincial DPRD in receiving BPK audit report has been maximal. However, it has not been well implemented that there are internal constraints is the lack of discussion time, the lack of draft law, the lack of human resources, the lack of process of recording of local assets, the effort of the internal constraint answer, guided by the legislation, The governor, adding aspects of regulation, human resources, and information technology, sanctioned / followed up the work committee that neglected to record the expenditure of regional assets.</em></p>
