Abstract The objective of this study is to examine the value relevance of the level of disclosure on business combinations and goodwill recognized by publicly traded Brazilian companies. The research sample is composed of publicly traded Brazilian companies that carried out any type of business combination, as the acquiring entity, between 2010 and 2013, yielding a total sample of 202 observations. To measure the disclosure level of each, a metric was created based on CPC-15 R1 (2011) to examine certain disclosure items in order to render a greater level of detail. Data collection was carried out using the footnotes to the annual consolidated standardized financial statements (DFPs) available from the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BM&FBOVESPA) website. The results revealed that disclosure levels for business combinations are positively and significantly associated with the stock price of the companies analyzed. As to the recognition of goodwill during business combinations, despite the fact that it represents a significant share of the value of the transactions, no statistical significance explaining stock price behavior was found. It also bears mentioning that the average level of disclosure identified in the explanatory notes in the sample was very low, indicating that companies need to improve when it comes to transparency of information.

Distortion of information is one of the inherent accounting risks in financial statements. Financial statements are one of the fundamental sources of information that can be used in investment decision making in the Indonesia stock exchange. If investors use this information, then investors also have the same risk that is the distortion of information contained in financial statements. This research tries to test whether stock prices can be more explained through alternative accounting information or information contained in financial statements. This research was conducted using a sequential explanatory mixed method. Using data on companies listed in the Business 27 index, tested using path analysis through multiple regression models, the results of this research indicate that alternative accounting information has not been able to explain variations in stock price changes compared to accounting information contained in financial statements. Meanwhile, the results of the analysis using qualitative data indicate there is a match between the results of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. Nevertheless, many issues suggest that the value relevance of accounting information has declined, mainly due to the increasing practices of conservatism. The aim of the research is to achieve a conclusion what is the level of the reporting practice on intangible assets in two countries - in the Republic of Serbia and in the Republic of Slovenia trough a comparative descriptive statistics. Consolidated financial statements of listed companies in these two countries were used from the Belgrade Stock Exchange (Serbia) and the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (Slovenia). The reason for the use of consolidated financial statements lies in the fact that they can contain unconsolidated intangible assets already recognized in the separate financial statements of the companies included in the group, as well as internally generated intangible assets that meet the conditions for recognition in a business combination (including Goodwill). The general assessment is that the survey results indicate a very low level of reporting practice of intangible assets in Serbia and relatively satisfactory level of reporting practice in Slovenia. Individual results are given in the fourth part of the paper.
