Purpose As an increasing number of business organizations around the world are engaged in the value relevance of accounting information, this study aims to assess the field of the accounting value relevance of book value and earnings in share prices of banks and financial institutions listed in the Tunisian stock exchange. Design/methodology/approach Using a sample of available banks and financial institutions listed in the Tunisian Stock Exchange from 2010 to 2015, this paper accommodates the documented accounting information in an emergent market context by using stock price of three months after year-end as a dependent variable. This study uses the panel regression technique on 24 banks and financial institutions during the study period. Findings The authors find that earnings and book value are statistically significantly associated with firm value. Also, using these variables together is positively related to the firm stock price share. Comparatively, these obtain evidence that book value is statistically more value-relevant than earning per share models; expectedly, the earnings explain a higher proportion of the stock price for the group of financial institutions than the group of banks. Originality/value A Web-based search is performed during the second quarter of 2016, locating the corporate websites of the sample firms, and the official site of the Datastream (worldscope) is identified. The sample period is 2010-2015 (144 firm-year observations).

Distortion of information is one of the inherent accounting risks in financial statements. Financial statements are one of the fundamental sources of information that can be used in investment decision making in the Indonesia stock exchange. If investors use this information, then investors also have the same risk that is the distortion of information contained in financial statements. This research tries to test whether stock prices can be more explained through alternative accounting information or information contained in financial statements. This research was conducted using a sequential explanatory mixed method. Using data on companies listed in the Business 27 index, tested using path analysis through multiple regression models, the results of this research indicate that alternative accounting information has not been able to explain variations in stock price changes compared to accounting information contained in financial statements. Meanwhile, the results of the analysis using qualitative data indicate there is a match between the results of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. This paper empirically investigates the value relevance of accounting earnings measures in the emerging capital market of Tunisia. The issue is tested by estimating the regression of annual security returns on different earnings measures extracted from income statements. In Tunisia, firms prepare their financial statements in accordance with Tunisian Accounting Standards (TAS) which are inspired from International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Based on a sample of 389 firm years for firms listed on the Tunis Stock Exchange (TSE) during the period 1997-2008 and using pooled regressions, we find that accounting earnings measures are weakly related to security returns. However, we find that earnings before taxes has the higher explanatory power for stock returns. This is perhaps due to the fact that financial statements are often influenced by taxation rules (ROSC, 2006; section 42). Further, we find that cash flow from operations and Total accruals are not value relevant for valuation. We tested whether the value relevance of each measure of performance improved after the adoption in October 2005 of the Law on Strengthening the Security of Financial Relations (LSSFR). Consistent with prior US and other international findings, results show that the explanatory power and the magnitude of the slope coefficient of each measure increased when we take into account for the impact of this enactment. However, the increase is not statistically significant. This is perhaps due to the employed specification of the relation between security returns and accounting information.

The audit committee (AC) is the potential mechanism that reduces the agency problems in organizations and investigating this mechanism separate from alternate corporate governance mechanisms may have led to different results in the literature. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of audit committee on value relevance of accounting information of listed hotels and travels in Sri Lanka. Value relevance of accounting information is measured by earning per share (EPS) and book value per share (BVPS) while Audit committee consists of AC size, AC independence, AC experts and AC meetings. The sample consists of 15 hotels and travels listed in Colombo Stock Exchange. In this study, data was collected from secondary sources and hypotheses are examined by using Pearson’s correlation and regression analysis. The results reveal that audit committee attributes such as AC size, AC experts and AC meetings have a significant impact on book value per share of listed hotels and travels in Sri Lanka. Further only AC experts influence earnings per share. AC independence is not found to have a significant impact on the value relevance of accounting information. The findings could be useful to regulators in other jurisdiction who are looking at ways to enhance the effectiveness of audit committee, overall firm governance.

This type of research used quantitative descriptive by nature sourced in the explanation stage where the research is more inclined to temperament cause or effect. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression method. The research approach used is a quantitative approach. The population quantity of 43 agencies over a total sample of 31 companies so that the total number of samples to be studied was 93 observations (31 x 3). The analysis value of the coefficient of determination is obtained from Adjusted R Square 0.942 with the intention that stock price variables can be explained in variations of EPS, ROE, and PBV variables of 94.2% while the remaining 5.8% is explained by other independent variables. The conclusions in the results of observations indicate partially EPS and PBV have a positive and significant effect on stock prices, partially ROE has a negative and significant effect on stock prices. Simultaneously, EPS, ROE and PBV have a significant effect on stock prices on Banking Companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2015-2017. Abstract The objective of this study is to examine the value relevance of the level of disclosure on business combinations and goodwill recognized by publicly traded Brazilian companies. The research sample is composed of publicly traded Brazilian companies that carried out any type of business combination, as the acquiring entity, between 2010 and 2013, yielding a total sample of 202 observations. To measure the disclosure level of each, a metric was created based on CPC-15 R1 (2011) to examine certain disclosure items in order to render a greater level of detail. Data collection was carried out using the footnotes to the annual consolidated standardized financial statements (DFPs) available from the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BM&FBOVESPA) website. The results revealed that disclosure levels for business combinations are positively and significantly associated with the stock price of the companies analyzed. As to the recognition of goodwill during business combinations, despite the fact that it represents a significant share of the value of the transactions, no statistical significance explaining stock price behavior was found. It also bears mentioning that the average level of disclosure identified in the explanatory notes in the sample was very low, indicating that companies need to improve when it comes to transparency of information.

This research aims to know the effect of adopting IFRS 9 on the relevance of the value of the accounting information of the companies in the Iraqi Stock Exchange. Researchers relied on analyzing the financial statements of 10 listed companies for years 2016 – 2019. Researchers used the Ohlson price model to test the relationship between accounting information and value relevance. The research indicated that there is a significant relationship between the adoption of IFRS 9 and the relevance of the value of the earnings and the book value, but the earnings information is more relevance than the book value information, it is due to the interest of investors in the income statement in making investment decisions.
