ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the benefits and limitations of nursing interventions for the promotion of child development, according to the Bioecological Theory of Human Development, by Bronfenbrenner. Method: an integrative review, from the databases PubMed, Lilacs, CINAHL, Web of Science and Scopus, using the descriptors: "child development" AND "nurses" OR "nursing". No time limit was set for publications. The search was perfomed in September 2019 and update in March 2020. Results: 24 studies were selected for the final sample. The predominant type of study design was the clinical trial (60%). The home visit was the most used strategy (60%). Seven main themes emerged from the outcomes of the interventions: the child, maternal health, parenting skills, relationship between nurse and mother/father, use of social benefits, professional practice, and family violence. The process component was present in all studies, portraying the relevance of proximal interactions in the home environment. Only two interventions had no impact on any outcome. Conclusion: nursing interventions showed benefits in all outcomes, especially in outcomes related to children and parental practices, and improved situations of interaction between caregivers and children, reducing punitive practices and violence against children. It is essential to consider the bioecological perspective, so that nursing interventions, in promoting child development, are more effective.

Nadie es Perfecto (Nobody’s Perfect, or NEP) is a parenting skills workshop aimed at ‘sharing experiences and receiving guidance on everyday problems to strengthen child development’. This article explores this workshop in terms of its relationship with the daily lives of participants, based on one year of fieldwork focused on families with young children in a low-income neighbourhood in Santiago. While caregivers frame their parenting efforts as aiming to ‘hacer lo mejor posible’ (do their best) under difficult circumstances, our study found that facilitators take an anachronistic and homogenizing view of participants. Embracing a universalistic perspective of child development, they discourage participation and debate, focusing instead on providing concrete advice that limits the potential of the workshops. This article argues that by ignoring the different living situations of families in this socioeconomic context, NEP reproduces a prejudiced view of poor subjects that sees them as deficient and incapable of change.

AbstractTo test the efficacy of a nurse home visiting program (HVP) on child development, maternal and environmental outcomes in the first years of life. We conducted a randomized controlled trial to test the efficacy of Primeiros Laços, a nurse HVP for adolescent mothers living in a poor urban area of São Paulo, Brazil. Eighty adolescent mothers were included and randomized to receive either Primeiros Laços (intervention group, n = 40) or healthcare as usual (control group, n = 40). Primeiros Laços is a home visiting intervention delivered by trained nurses that starts during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy and continues to the child’s age of 24 months. Participants were assessed by blind interviewers at 8–16 weeks of pregnancy (baseline), 30 weeks of pregnancy, and 3, 6, 12, and 24 months of child’s age. We assessed oscillatory power in the mid-range alpha frequency via electroencephalography when the children were aged 6 months. Child development was measured by the Bayley Scales of Infant Development Third Edition (BSID-III). Weight and length were measured by trained professionals and anthropometric indexes were calculated. The home environment and maternal interaction with the child was measured by the Home Observation and Measurement of the Environment. Generalized estimating equation models were used to examine intervention effects on the trajectories of outcomes. Standardized effect sizes (Cohen’s d) were calculated using marginal means from endpoint assessments of all outcomes. The trial was registered at clinicaltrial.gov: NCT02807818. Our analyses showed significant positive effects of the intervention on child expressive language development (coefficient = 0.89, 95% CI [0.18, 1.61], p = 0.014), maternal emotional/verbal responsivity (coefficient = 0.97, 95% CI [0.37, 1.58], p = 0.002), and opportunities for variety in daily stimulation (coefficient = 0.37, 95% CI [0.09, 0.66], p = 0.009). Standardized effect sizes of the intervention were small to moderate. Primeiros Laços is a promising intervention to promote child development and to improve the home environment of low-income adolescent mothers. However, considering the limitations of our study, future studies should be conducted to assess Primeiros Laços potential to benefit this population.Clinical Trial Registration: The study was registered at clinicaltrial.gov (Registration date: 21/06/2016 and Registration number: NCT02807818).

Este trabajo realiza una revisión sistemática para identificar los principales hallazgos reportados en la literatura científica sobre la percepción del estudiante universitario hacia la práctica de estrategias de gamificación en su proceso de aprendizaje. La búsqueda documental se ha llevado a cabo a partir de la triangulación de las publicaciones incluidas en las bases de datos “Web of Science” y “Scopus” durante el período 2010-2019. Tras aplicar los criterios de selección y calidad, se han identificado un total de 20 estudios como muestra final. Los resultados demuestran el interés creciente de la comunidad científica por plantear trabajos sobre gamificación en Educación Superior. Además, se corrobora una predisposición favorable en el alumnado hacia el desarrollo de experiencias didácticas innovadoras basadas en la gamificación. Entre sus potencialidades, destaca el aumento de la motivación, el interés y la participación del alumnado en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, así como la mejora del rendimiento académico y el desarrollo de las habilidades y competencias necesarias para su desarrollo profesional. This work performs a systematic review to identify the main findings reported in the scientific literature on the perception of the university student towards the practice of gamification strategies in their learning process. The documentary search was carried out based on the triangulation of the publications included in the "Web of Science" and "Scopus" databases during the period 2010-2019. After applying the selection and quality criteria, a total of 20 studies have been identified as the final sample. The results demonstrate the growing interest of the scientific community to propose works on gamification in Higher Education. Furthermore, a favorable predisposition in the students towards the development of innovative didactic experiences based on gamification is corroborated. Among its potential, the increase in motivation, interest and participation of students in the teaching-learning process stands out, as well as improving academic performance and developing the skills and competences necessary for their professional development

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe and analyze the national and international scientific production on Nursing care for the transgender or gender-variance population. Method: Integrative review of the literature, conducted throughout the Virtual Health Library, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Public Medline and Web of Science databases, without pre-established periods of time and using the descriptors "Transgender AND ‘Nursing Assistance'" and "Transgender AND ‘Nursing care'". Results: We included 11 articles, published between 2005 and 2016, broadly North American with only one Brazilian, so categorized: I- Fragility in the care of transgender people; II - Health of the transgender population: general and specific demands; III- Public health policies for transgender people. Transgender people have not found yet answers to their health demands; they are victims of prejudices and violence in services and seek care in extreme cases of sickness. Final considerations: Understanding their needs is primordial to build knowledge and practices that support nursing care.

AbstractObjective: to analyze and summarize knowledge concerning critical components of interventions that have been proposed and implemented by nurses with the aim of optimizing self-care by heart failure patients.Methods: PubMed and CINAHL were the electronic databases used to search full peer-reviewed papers, presenting descriptions of nursing interventions directed to patients or to patients and their families and designed to optimize self-care. Forty-two studies were included in the final sample (n=4,799 patients).Results: this review pointed to a variety and complexity of nursing interventions. As self-care encompasses several behaviors, interventions targeted an average of 3.6 behaviors. Educational/counselling activities were combined or not with cognitive behavioral strategies, but only about half of the studies used a theoretical background to guide interventions. Clinical assessment and management were frequently associated with self-care interventions, which varied in number of sessions (1 to 30); length of follow-up (2 weeks to 12 months) and endpoints.Conclusions: these findings may be useful to inform nurses about further research in self-care interventions in order to propose the comparison of different modalities of intervention, the use of theoretical background and the establishment of endpoints to evaluate their effectiveness.

ABSTRACT Objective: to construct conceptual definitions for indicators of nursing outcome Knowledge: Fall Prevention, selected for evaluation of hospitalized patients with the nursing diagnosis Risk for falls. Method: integrative literature review performed in the LILACS, MEDLINE and Web of Science databases, comprising articles published in English, Spanish and Portuguese languages from 2005 to 2015. Results: the final sample of the study was composed of 17 articles. The conceptualizations were constructed for 14 indicators of nursing outcome Knowledge: Fall Prevention focused on hospitalized patients. Conclusion: the theoretical support of the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), through the process of constructing the conceptual definitions of the indicators of its results, allows nurses to accurately implement this classification in clinical practice and to evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions through the change of the patients' status over time.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to analyze the influence of low-level laser on muscle performance and to identify the most used dosimetric parameters. Methods: the search for articles was carried out on the PubMed, BVS, Web of Science and SciELO platforms. The articles selected were original ones, with available abstracts and that evaluated the use of photobiomodulation on muscular performance. The data were analyzed according to the author, year of publication, sample, place of application, parameters evaluated, wavelength, dosimetry used and results found. Results: the final sample consisted of 27 articles published between 2008 and 2017. The sample size in the studies ranged from 8 to 60 individuals, aged from 17 to 70 years. A greater use of infrared wavelength, with punctual applications carried out in the path of the muscle, was observed. Regarding the dose, there was a variation from 0.24 to 50 joules per point. Of the total, only 5 (18.5%) studies had not found significant answers for the considered variables. Conclusion: most of the studies pointed out that low-level laser can improve muscle performance. The methodology used in the work was diversified, rendering data compilation difficult, being impossible to set the ideal parameters for this purpose.
