ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze ten-year specific survival of women with breast cancer in Great Cuiaba, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Methods: A population-based cohort of 61 women diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and 2009, in Great Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, followed by 2018 in the regional mortality database. Specific survival was analyzed through the Kaplan-Meier curve, with adjustment of the Weibull model and Log-Weibull Regression. The survival curves of the variables were compared using the log-rank test which were statistically significance (p<0.05). Results: The mean time to death is approximately 51.1 months. Women aged ≤ 50 years and of white race/color presented the worst survival. Conclusion: We found out that age, race/color affect specific survival and there is a need for reviewing the control plan for breast cancer in order to increase the survival of women diagnosed with this pathology.

1606 Background: Study of the ER-/PR-/HER2- (TN) subtype has generated interest in race/ethnicity with respect to breast cancer. Poor survival of African-American (AA) women with breast cancer has been reported. Less is known about the Asian population. This study examines survival of four ER/PR/HER2 subtypes among 10 self-reported race/ethnicity categories Methods: Using the California Cancer Registry 2000-2010, we examined 136,175 cases first primary female invasive breast cancer. For stages 1 and 2, Kaplan-Meier survival and the Log-Rank test were computed by stage and race for the ER+/PR+/HER2-, ER-/PR-/HER2+, ER+/PR+/HER2+ (TP) and TN subtypes. Results: When the Asian population is combined into the category Asian/Pacific Islander (API): ER+/PR+/HER2-: AAs had worse 5-year survival than whites in stages 1 and 2 but Hispanics and APIs had better survival in both stages; ER-/PR-/HER2+: AAs and Hispanics were no different from whites in stage 1 but APIs had better 5-year survival (0.96 vs 0.89, p<0.001). For stage 2, there were no differences in survival among the races. ER+/PR+/HER2+: AAs had worse and APIs had better survival in both stages; Hispanics had better survival only in stage 1 (0.93 vs 0.92, p<0.03) and were no different from whites in stage 2. ER-/PR-HER2-: AAs and Hispanics were no different from whites in stage 1 but APIs had better survival (0.93 vs 0.88, p< .003); AAs had worse survival than whites in stage 2 (0.71 vs 0.75, p< 0.04) Hispanics were no different, and APIs had better survival (0.81, p < 0.001). When the Asian population was expanded into 7 categories, Pacific Islanders and Koreans were no different than whites in stages 1 or 2 for all four subtypes examined. For Stage 1, Southeast Asians had better survival for all subtypes except for the TN whereas Filipinos had better survival for all subtypes except for TP. For the ER+/PR+/HER2- subtype, women from the Indian Continent had better survival in stage 1 (0.98 vs 0.92, p<0.003) and in stage 2 (0.94 vs 0.88, p<.001) and better survival for stage 1 of the TN subtype (1.00, vs 0.88, p <0.04). Conclusions: There is heterogeneity among the Asian population, but regardless of how categorized, Asians have either the same or better 5-year survival than whites for all subtypes in stages 1 and 2.

Objectives The survival benefit of postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) has not been fully proven in inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). Thus, in the present research, we aimed at elucidating the effects of PMRT on the survival of IBC patients. Methods Eligible patients were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) dataset between 2010 and 2013. The Kaplan-Meier method along with the log-rank test was utilized for the comparison of both the overall survival (OS) andthe cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients undergoing PMRT or not. Additionally, multivariate survival analysis of CSS and OS were performed using the Cox proportional hazard model. Results In total, 293 eligible cases were identified, with the median follow-up time of 27 months (range: 5–59 months). After propensity score matching (PSM), 188 patients (94 for each) were classified intothe No-PMRT and the PMRT group. Consequently, significantly higher OS rates were detected in the PMRT group compared with the No-PMRT group prior to PSM (P = 0.034), and significantly higher CSS (P = 0.013) and OS (P = 0.0063) rates were observed following PSM. Furthermore, multivariate analysis revealed thatPMRT [CSS (HR: 0.519, 95% CI [0.287–0.939], P = 0.030); OS (HR: 0.480, 95% CI [0.269–0.859], P = 0.013)], as well as Her2+/HR+ subtype, was independent favorable prognostic factors.Besides, black ethnicity, AJCC stage IV and triple-negative subtype were independent unfavorable prognostic factors. Further subgroup analysis revealed that most of the study population could benefit from PMRT, no matter OS or CSS. Conclusions Our findings support that PMRT could improve the survival of IBC patients.

Abstract Background Previous studies have reported poor survival rates in inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) patients than non-inflammatory local advanced breast cancer (non-IBC) patients. However, until now, the survival rate of IBC and other T4 non-IBC (T4-non-IBC) patients remains unexplored. Methods Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was searched to identify cases with confirmed non-metastatic IBC and T4-non-IBC who had received surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy between 2010 and 2015. IBC was defined as per the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 7th edition. Breast Cancer-Specific Survival (BCSS) was estimated by plotting the Kaplan-Meier curve and compared across groups by using the log-rank test. Cox model was constructed to determine the association between IBC and BCSS after adjusting for age, race, stage of disease, tumor grade and surgery type. Results Out of a total of 1986 patients, 37.1% had IBC and mean age was 56.6 ± 12.4. After a median follow-up time of 28 months, 3-year BCSS rate for IBC and T4-non-IBC patients was 81.4 and 81.9%, respectively (log-rank p = 0.398). The 3-year BCSS rate in HR−/HER2+ cohort was higher for IBC patients than T4-non-IBC patients (89.5% vs. 80.8%; log-rank p = 0.028), and in HR−/HER2- cohort it was significantly lower for IBC patients than T4-non-IBC patients (57.4% vs. 67.5%; log-rank p = 0.010). However, it was identical between IBC and T4-non-IBC patients in both HR+/HER2- (85.0% vs. 85.3%; log-rank p = 0.567) and HR+/HER2+ (93.6% vs. 91.0%, log-rank p = 0.510) cohorts. After adjusting for potential confounding variables, we observed that IBC is a significant independent predictor for survival of HR−/HER2+ cohort (hazards ratio [HR] = 0.442; 95% CI: 0.216–0.902; P = 0.025) and HR−/HER2- cohort (HR = 1.738; 95% CI: 1.192–2.534; P = 0.004). Conclusions Patients with IBC and T4-non-IBC had a similar BCSS in the era of modern systemic treatment. In IBC patients, the HR−/HER2+ subtype is associated with a better outcome, and HR−/HER2- subtype is associated with poorer outcomes as compared to the T4-non-IBC patients.

Abstract Background Hemodialysis (HD) dose targets and ultrafiltration rate (UFR) limits for pediatric patients on chronic HD are not known and are derived from adults (spKt/V>1.4 and <13 ml/kg/h). We aimed to characterize how delivered HD dose and UFR are associated with survival in a large cohort of patients who started HD in childhood. Methods Retrospective analysis on a cohort of patients <30 years, on chronic HD since childhood (<19 years), having received thrice-weekly HD 2004–2016 in outpatient DaVita centers. Outcome: Survival while remaining on HD. Predictors: (I) primary analysis: mean delivered dialysis dose stratified as spKt/V ≤1.4/1.4–1.6/>1.6 (Kaplan–Meier analysis), (II) secondary analyses: UFR and alternative dialysis adequacy measures [eKt/V, body-surface normalized Kt/BSA] on continuous scale (Weibull regression model). Results A total of 1780 patients were included (age at the start of HD: 0–12y: n=321, >12–18y: n=1459; median spKt/V=1.55, eKt/V=1.31, Kt/BSA=31.2 L/m2, UFR=10.6 mL/kg/h). (I) spKt/V<1.4 was associated with lower survival compared to spKt/V>1.4–1.6 (P<0.001, log-rank test), and spKt/V>1.6 (P<0.001), with 10-year survival of 69.3% (59.4–80.9%) versus 83.0% (76.8–89.8%) and 84.0% (79.6–88.5%), respectively. (II) Kt/BSA was a better predictor of survival than spKt/V or eKt/V. UFR was additionally associated with survival (P<0.001), with increased mortality <10/>18 mL/kg/h. Associations did not alter significantly following adjustment for demographic characteristics (age, etiology of kidney disease, and ethnicity). Conclusions Our results suggest usefulness of targeting Kt/BSA>30 L/m2 for best long-term outcomes, corresponding to spKt/V>1.4 (>12 years) and >1.6 (<12 years). In contrast to adults, higher UFR of 10–18 ml/kg/h was not associated with greater mortality in this population.

Introduction: Overall poor COVID-19 outcomes have been reported among males. We evaluated sex differences in mortality among patients with stroke related to COVID-19. Methods: Utilizing pooled deidentified data from 30 healthcare organizations, we identified COVID-19 patients via ICD-10 diagnosis or documented laboratory confirmation of SARS-CoV-2 RNA or antibodies. Patients with ICD-10 diagnoses of ischemic stroke or intracerebral hemorrhage within 30 days before or after the COVID-19 event were flagged. Male and female patients were propensity score (PS) matched on other demographic and comorbidity variables. Risk Ratio (RR) and 95% Confidence Interval (CI) for association between sex and 90-day mortality is reported. Kaplan-Meier analyses with log rank test (LRT) were conducted for time-to-death. As a sensitivity analysis, we only included a smaller sub-set with first instance of IS or ICH ± 30-days of COVID-19 diagnosis. Results: Among 149,410 COVID-19 patients, 1,618 (1.1%) had a stroke diagnosis ± 30-days of confirmed COVID-19. Of whom, 1,609 patients (847 males and 762 females) were included in primary analyses. Females were older (67.7 vs. 65.7 years) and were more likely to be of black race (34.1% vs. 27.6%). Females had a significantly higher proportion of chronic pulmonary disease (38.8% vs. 28.8%) and obesity (34.2% vs. 24.8%); whereas males had higher proportion of alcohol abuse (8.5% vs. 3.8%). A 1:1 PS algorithm yielded an optimally matched sample of 634 males and females each, balanced on all covariates. In the matched sample, 11.7% of females and 15.8% of males experienced 90-day mortality; RR (CI): 1.35 (1.02 - 1.78), LRT p value 0.04. Higher risk of 90-day mortality among males with COVID-19 and stroke was maintained in the sensitivity analyses, RR (CI): 1.47 (1.06 - 2.00), LRT p value = 0.03 (graphic). Conclusion: Future studies examining the socio-demographic and biological mechanisms for poor stroke outcomes among males with COVID-19 are needed.

Abstract Background This study aims to assess breast cancer survival rates after one decade of mammography in a large urban area of Brazil. Methods It is a population-based retrospective cohort of women with breast cancer in Campinas, São Paulo, from 2010 to 2014. Age, vital status and stage were accessed through the cancer and mortality registry, and patients records. Statistics used Kaplan-Meier, log-rank and Cox's regression. Results Out of the 2,715 cases, 665 deaths (24.5%) were confirmed until early 2020. The mean age at diagnosis was 58.6 years. Women 50-69 years were 48.0%, and stage I the most frequent (25.0%). The overall mean survival was 8.4 years (8.2-8.5). The 5-year survival (5yOS) for overall, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 years was respectively 80.5%, 87.7%, 83.7%, 83.8% and 75.5%. The 5yOS for stages 0, I, II, III and IV was 95.2%, 92.6%, 89.4%, 71.1% and 47.1%. There was no significant difference in survival in stage I or II (p=0.058). Compared to women 50-59 years, death's risk was 2.3 times higher for women 70-79 years and 26% lower for women 40-49 years. Concerning stage I, the risk of death was 1.5, 4.1 and 8.6 times higher, and 34% lower, respectively, for stage II, III, IV and 0. Conclusions In Brazil, breast cancers are currently diagnosed in the early stages, although advanced cases persist. Survival rates may reflect improvements in screening, early detection and treatment. The results can reflect the current status of other regions or countries with similar health care conditions.

Abstract Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most diagnosed cancer among males and third among females in Saudi Arabia, with up to two-third diagnosed at advanced stage. The objective of our study was to estimate CRC survival and determine prognostic factors. Methods Ministry of National Guard- Health Affairs (MNG-HA) registry data was utilized to identify patients diagnosed with CRC between 2009 and 2017. Cases were followed until December 30th, 2017 to assess their one-, three-, and five-year CRC-specific survivals. Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazard models were used to assess survival from CRC. Results A total of 1012 CRC patients were diagnosed during 2009–2017. Nearly, one-fourth of the patients presented with rectal tumor, 42.89% with left colon and 33.41% of the cases were diagnosed at distant metastasis stage. The overall one-, three-, and five-year survival were 83, 65 and 52.0%, respectively. The five-year survival was 79.85% for localized stage, 63.25% for regional stage and 20.31% for distant metastasis. Multivariate analyses showed that age, diagnosis period, stage, nationality, basis of diagnosis, morphology and location of tumor were associated with survival. Conclusions Findings reveal poor survival compared to Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) population. Diagnoses at late stage and no surgical and/or perioperative chemotherapy were associated with increased risk of death. Population-based screening in this population should be considered.

ObjectiveUsing linked cancer registry and administrative data to monitor, tumour, node and metastases (TNM) stage and survival from female breast cancer in Australia.MethodAnalysis of 2000–2014 diagnoses with linked population-based data to investigate: (1) sociodemographic predictors of advanced stage (stages III and IV), using unadjusted and adjusted logistic regression; and (2) sociodemographic factors and stage as predictors of breast cancer survival using competing risk regression.DesignPopulation-based registry cohort.Setting and participants14 759 South Australian women diagnosed in 2000–2014.Primary and secondary outcome measuresStage and survival.ResultsAt diagnosis, 46% of women were classified as stage I, 39% as stage II, 12% as stage III and 4% as stage IV. After adjusting for sociodemographic factors, advanced stage was more common: (1) for ages <50 years; and although not statistically significant, for ages 80+ years; and (2) in women from socioeconomically disadvantaged areas. Compared with 2000–2004 diagnoses, stage and sociodemographic adjusted risks (sub-HRs (SHRs)) of breast cancer death were lower in 2005–2009 (SHR 0.75, 95% CI 0.67 to 0.83) and 2010–2015 (SHR 0.57, 95% CI 0.48 to 0.67). Compared with stage I, the SHR was 3.87 (95% CI 3.32 to 4.53) for stage II, 10.87 (95% CI 9.22 to 12.81) for stage III, and 41.97 (95% CI 34.78 to 50.65) for stage IV. Women aged 70+ years at diagnosis and those living in the most socioeconomically disadvantaged areas were at elevated risk of breast cancer death, independent of stage and sociodemographic factors.ConclusionsStage varied by age, diagnostic period and socioeconomic status, and was a stronger predictor of survival than other statistically significant sociodemographic predictors. Achieving earlier diagnosis outside the original BreastScreen target of 50–69 years (as applying <2014) and in residents of socioeconomically disadvantaged areas likely would increase cancer survival at a population level.
