This study aimed to understand the conception and performance of health education developed by the Family Health Team with a view to clients' participation. Qualitative study carried out with clients and professionals at the Family Health Program (FHP) in Crato, CE, Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observation between May and September, 2005. Data were organized according to content analysis and literature. Findings indicate that professionals view health education as guidance and teaching focused on disease prevention and the participation of clients is perceived as listening and attention. Thus, FHP professionals need to broaden their understanding of health education and educative strategies, which should be culturally meaningful, so that clients freely and consciously decide on their participation and behavioral change in health.

This study examines the contextual determinants of implementing decentralization of epidemiological surveillance for the family health team, in a municipality in the state of Bahia, Brazil. This was an evaluative study using the political model of implementation analysis. Data were obtained through document analysis and semi-structured interviews with managers and healthcare workers. Five themes emerged: planning; training of human resources; organization of the work process; linkage within institutions; and organization of family healthcare units. The results revealed that there are difficulties such as poor infrastructure of healthcare units, creation of flexibility in labor relations and healthcare worker turnover. The study shows that there is a need for stakeholder participation in the process of implementing the policy of decentralization of epidemiological surveillance for the micro-area of intervention that comprises the family health program.

This study aimed to: analyze the conceptions of health education that guide educational practices of community health agents in the Family Health Program of the Butantã Health Coordination, São Paulo, Brazil, and analyze the character of these educational activities. Data were collected through focus groups and in-depth semi-structured interviews with 39 agents. The analysis procedures followed the recommendations of thematic content analysis, and praxis was the analytical category. Regarding theoretical activity as a component of praxis, we found that most health education conceptions were based on the transmission of normative information learned from health technicians. This theoretical activity ended up guiding a practical activity typical of repetitive praxis, in which the agents do not participate in the health work planning process and do not dominate the "ideal object", reproducing tasks planned by others.

This study had as objective to evaluate the care regarding syphilis provided by the professionals of the family health teams during prenatal consultations. For this purpose, a structured questionnaire was applied to physicians and nurses working in the health units located in the urban and rural areas of the municipality of  Nossa Senhora do Socorro, in Sergipe, and the results presented using simple descriptive statistics. It was found that 76.2% of the interviewees use the Pregnant Women's Manual during prenatal consultations, adequately recognizing each stage of the disease and the drug therapy to be instituted, but treatment is not started immediately due to a lack of medication in the unity. The interviewees (81%) carried out an active search of pregnant women who were absent from prenatal consultations, but 52.4% presented a strategy to attract their partners. It is concluded that the health professionals against syphilis have the knowledge, but they can not act in an effective way, making it necessary to discuss the knowledge and performance of these professionals, guaranteeing access to training. The need for improvements by health management is also emphasized in order to make the municipality's approach to syphilis more specific and qualified, increasing the chances of eradicating the disease.

Authors aimed at learning about the mental health care provided at a Family Health Program. 142 subjects were interviewed (18 nurses, 78 agents, 17 patients and 29 family members). In order to collect data, authors used the Scale of Opinion on Mental Health Care with 25 statements on the care, orientation by the members of the Program of Family Health team and the benefits of this Program. The total scores showed a difference between the agents and other groups. Among nurses, they found the shorter deviation and among the patients the greater variability in the responses. They emphasize the need for efficacy in arranging the appointments. Authors found a lack of coherence among the opinions of the subjects regarding the professionals' orientations.

This article discusses the implementation of the Family Health Program in the municipalities of Camaragibe, Aracaju, São Gonçalo, and the Federal District of Brazil, aiming to identify possible interfaces between the program's shaping and different incentives structures, the local health system's case-resolving capacity, experiences with social participation, and accountability mechanisms. The article shows that aspects related to the constitution of local health systems in terms of the quantitative and qualitative supply of services, technical and management training within the Municipal Health Department, investment in other levels of care, and local political traditions are crucial variables for understanding the diversity of experiences in the implementation of the Family Health Program.

The purpose of the study was to learn about the perception of Family Health Team professionals from the Violence Prevention Program regarding primary interventions to prevent domestic violence. The study was linked to the research "Primary and secondary intervention in domestic violence from the perspective of primary healthcare professionals". The approach of this research was qualitative and exploratory. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews. The participants were four nurses and four physicians. Three categories emerged in the analysis of the theme: knowledge of primary interventions to prevent violence; execution of primary intervention actions to prevent violence - ease and difficulties; and acknowledgement of the importance of primary interventions and the care provided. The professionals were previously aware of the main primary interventions, and some were already taking place in the multidisciplinary work.
