The Journal of Biochemistry Education, called previously the Journal of the Brazilian Journal of Education for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, created in 2001 within SBBq, aiming at the dissemination of research work in Biochemistry teaching. In 2012, it underwent several transformations, including a new name, change of electronic management system and expansion of scope. In 2015, began receiving articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish. In recent years, we have sought to broaden connections with researchers from other countries, who currently make up the journal's editorial staff. In order to expand the access to the magazine, we planned several actions of dissemination and indexing, including group in Facebook, indexing in several bases, besides registering in libraries. In this sense, we work to have a Journal that contributes to disseminate research in teaching and also (here the differential) to value and disseminate good practices of teachers in primary and higher education, as well as actions of scientific dissemination. During the symposium, we will present some of this history and work of the team that seeks to improve teaching-learning Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and related areas.

The purpose of this research work was to approach higher education in Kosovo from the viewpoint of both print and electronic media coverage, as well as to point out the challenges derived from the current practice. The paper addresses the impact of media on higher education promotion and development, in addition to quality improvement. Furthermore, it aims to generate discussion on how media coverage of higher education can positively contribute to its development, including impact on wider society. Media’s role in public information, its attitude in relation to educational reforms, and society’s awareness on changing needs have been analyzed thoroughly. In addition, the challenges faced by higher education institutions and its coverage by media were analyzed. The research was conducted with a structure and methodology based on theoretical, empirical findings, and discussion on education and media. The main finding is that media provide adequate coverage of events and information primarily in the negative context, with very little attention paid to good practices and more positive messages. Further, the research suggests that education in general and higher education in particular, is closely linked and affected by politics, On the other hand, there is a lack of professionalism in the journalist profession, particularly amongst those dealing with educational issues in general and higher education in particular. Electronic media coverage in many cases is considered disproportionate towards certain groups. Thus, both sides media and HE institutions are critical of each other and there is clear mistrust and lack of cooperation.

The development of an agro-industrial complex under present-day conditions is impossible to imagine without the development of agro-biotechnology, which in turn requires specialists with profound knowledge of biology, chemistry and related sciences. In this regard, training of personnel is needed to ensure active implementation of modern technologies in agricultural sciences. Until recently, such specialists have not been trained at classical universities, to which St. Petersburg State University belongs. To deal with this challenge, a Masters Program «Molecular Biology and Agrobiotechnology of Plants» has been developed and is being implemented in SPbSU. Teaching staff from eight departments of the Biological Faculty of SPbSU is involved in the creation and implementation of the Program. The Program in question is focused on familiarizing students with the modern problems, achievements, methodology of agro-biotechnology of plants, as well as on practical application of the obtained knowledge. Special attention is paid to the formation of trainees’ perceptions of the possibility and necessity of bringing plant breeding to the level of requirements and possibilities of the «post-genome era» to achieve high productivity and sustainability of agricultural production with minimal environmental risks. The Program seamlessly integrates practical exercises and students’ research work in the SPbSU facilities, as well as that performed at St. Petersburg research institutes. Much attention is paid to the development of students’ skills in conducting scientific discussions and in presenting their scientific data in different formats, for instance in English, which is very important for monitoring current scientific trends and integrating own research into world science. The Program is popular with students and many of its graduates have been employed by the leading biological and agricultural research institutes.
