Identifying technology trends can be a key success factor for companies to be competitive and take advantage of technological trends before they occur. The companies always work to plan for future products and services. For that, it is important to turn to methods that are used for technology forecasting. These tools help the companies to define potential markets for innovative new products and services. This paper uses text mining techniques along with expert judgment to detect and analyze the near-term technology evolution trends in a Software as a Service (SaaS) case study. The longer-term technology development trend in this case is forecasted by analyzing the gaps between science and technology. This paper contributes to the technology forecasting methodology and will be of interest to those in SaaS technology. Our findings reveal five trends in the technology: 1) virtual networking, 2) the hybrid cloud, 3) modeling methodologies, 4) mobile applications, and 5) web applications. Among the results achieved, we can summarize the interesting ones as follows: it is possible to say that traditional information systems are now evolving into online information systems. On the other hand, the use of a licensing model based on subscriptions triggers the change in perpetual licensing models. The product range that has evolved towards mobile technologies has put pressure on information storage technologies and has led to the search for new methods especially in the development of database systems.

The problems encountered in achieving data security within computer-supported information systems increased with the development of modern computer systems. The threats are manifold and have to be met by an appropriate set of hardware precautions, organizational procedures and software measures which are the topic of this paper. Design principles and software construction rules are treated first, since the security power of a system is considerably determined by its proper design. A number of software techniques presented may support security mechanisms ranging from user identification and authentication to access control, auditing and threat monitoring. Encryption is a powerful tool for protecting data during physical storage and transmission as well.Since an increasing number of health information systems with information-integrating functions are database-supported, the main issues and terms of database systems and their specific security aspects are summarized in the appendix.

Abstract. This activity aims to improve the application of science and technology at Special Schools (SLB) through training in making ICT-based learning media for SLB teachers in Padang City. This is motivated by the problems faced by the community, especially at the Padang Karya SLB and SLB Bina Bangsa, which include: (1) the lack of facilities and infrastructure that support ICT-based learning (Information and Computer Technology) such as computers, projectors and loudspeakers (speakers ); (2) lack of teachers' ability to master ICTs and make ICT-based learning media interesting and effective for students with special needs; (3) the unavailability of facilities in the form of a system that can provide information to the public and the government about schools; and (4) there is no training in managing information systems regarding schools. Therefore, an activity is needed that can help overcome partner problems through the Community Partnership Program (PKM). The methods for implementing PKM activities include preparation, training, monitoring and evaluation, and reflection. The results of the implementation of this activity include: (1) increasing teacher competency in mastering ICT; (2) increasing the application of science and technology in the form of using Interactive CD media in the learning process; (3) improving the quality and added value of educational services through the application of web-based information systems about the two schools; and (4) improving community values in the field of education through the application of ICTAbstrak. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penerapan Ipteks di Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) melalui pelatihan pembuatan media pembelajaran berbasis TIK kepada guru-guru SLB yang ada di Kota Padang.Hal ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan yang dihadapi masyarakat, khususnya di SLB Karya Padang dan SLB Bina Bangsa, yang meliputi: (1) kurangnya sarana dan prasarana yang menunjang pembelajaran berbasis TIK (Teknologi Informasi dan Komputer) seperti komputer, projektor, dan pengeras suara (speaker); (2) kurangnya kemampuan guru dalam menguasai TIK dan membuat media pembelajaran berbasis TIK yang menarik dan efektif bagi siswa berkebutuhan khusus; (3) belum tersedianya sarana berupa sistem yang dapat memberikan informasi kepada masyarakat dan pemerintah tentang sekolah; dan (4) belum adanya pelatihan dalam penglolaan sistem informasi mengenai sekolah. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan suatu kegiatan yang dapat membantu mengatasi permasalahan mitra melalui Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM). Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM ini meliputi persiapan, pelaksanaan pelatihan, monitoring dan evaluasi, serta refleksi. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini meliputi: (1) peningkatan kompetensi guru dalam penguasaan TIK; (2) peningkatan penerapan Ipteks berupa penggunaan media CD Interaktif dalam proses pembelajaran; (3) peningkatan kualitas serta nilai tambah jasa pelayanan pendidikan melalui penerapan sistem informasi berbasis web tentang kedua sekolah; dan (4) perbaikan tata nilai masyarakat di bidang pendidikan melalui penerapan TIK.

The effectiveness and efficiency of information systems are closely related to the degree of integration between applications. In order to support the management of application integration, five success factors are analyzed. For each success factor, appropriate performance indicators are proposed. Since the analysis indicates that the success factors are closely interrelated, these dependencies are discussed and hypotheses are derived.

An executive information system (EIS) provides senior management with easy access to information relevant to their needs. It can spread horizontally across and vertically down to other organizational managers and provide three major types of benefits: information, management support, and organizational support (Salmeron, 2002). According to Salmeron, one key EIS success factor is the fulfillment of users’ information needs. However, the user information requirements determination (IRD) process during the implementation of an EIS remains a problematic exercise for most organizations (Walter, Jiang, & Klein, 2003). This is because IRD is the least understood and least formalized yet most critical phase of the information systems development (ISD) process. This phase is so crucial that many information systems researchers argue that IRD is the single most important stage during an EIS project development process, and if the IRD is inaccurate and incomplete, the resultant system will also be inaccurate and incomplete. Hence, understanding the issues that influence the IRD process of EIS is of critical importance to organizations (Poon & Wagner, 2001). However, little is known about the issues that influence IRD processes during the implementation of an EIS project (Khalil, 2005). Therefore, this article aims to examine key issues surrounding the IRD process during the implementation of an EIS project in a large Australian public-sector organization. The article first reviews relevant literature with respect to IRD and EIS. Key findings and issues identified from the case study are also presented. The article examines these findings and issues in light of these organizations’ IRD practices, and concludes by providing some lessons for EIS project implementation.

Today's learners are intrinsically motivated in that they are apt to analyze, synthesize, internalize, rebuild, share, and disseminate knowledge not only with their instructors, but also their peers, and the greater community, including a plethora of learning communities from across the world. Web-based technologies play a key role in this learning process. Particularly online social media networks and mobile technologies, the two selected technology trends evaluated in this paper, are thriving in online learning/teaching settings, immensely helping students acquire valid learning gains. These technologies are not a fad, a myth, or talk-of-the-day in learning and teaching environments in any given discipline. With that said, there are also certain issues and challenges that accompany these media and technologies for learning and teaching practices, which will also be addressed in this paper. Finally, future implications on these trends and issues in DL will be further discussed with the hope that educational leaders can draw on them for further inquiry and development in the field.

This chapter examines the Information Systems success model in the Egyptian context. Much of the existing literature on information system success focuses primarily on the private sector. There are fewer studies that examine success in the context of the development of e-government. This study focuses specifically on local e-government development of projects in Egypt. A survey is administered in three local governments on actual users of Information Systems. The results of this study confirm much of the existing research on information system success, but highlight the importance of net benefit as a success factor that examines the organizational and managerial context of e-government development. The importance of this research indicates that managerial functions matter for the success of e-government projects.
