Abstract There is evidence that Early Childhood Education positively contributes to optimal performance in Elementary School, but there are few studies about its infl uence on socio-behavioral variables. This study aimed to explore the association between duration of Early Childhood Education attendance (one or two years) and developmental outcomes in the 3rd grade. A total of 151 students from public schools participated in the study and their academic performance, social skills, externalizing behavior and stress symptoms were assessed. Data analysis comprised group comparison and regression with control of socioeconomic background. The results showed that children who had attended Early Childhood Education for one more year showed better achievement and less stress symptoms. Duration of Early Childhood Education attendance was a significant positive predictor for achievement and a negative one for stress in the 3rd grade. We discuss the quality of Early Childhood Education and its influence on the variables assessed and point to the need for a systematic replication study to assess the generalization of the results.

Purpose of the study: The study examined the implementation of early childhood education during the pandemic of COVID-19. Methodology: A systematic review identified the implementation in early childhood education settings. Electronic databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, and manual search on Google Scholar were explored with specific keywords from the inception of the pandemic COVID-19 to November 30, 2020. Main Findings: Early childhood education has been influenced due to school closure. Most of the children experience online learning, to reduce the spread of the outbreak, especially when face-to-face learning cannot be conducted. Parents and teachers have significant roles in supporting the children to improve their cognitive and social development. However, the implementation of home learning causes some difficulties in relation to the self-regulation of very young children, the readiness to utilize digital technology and learning materials, parent’s beliefs and attitudes on online learning compared with traditional learning, and requirements of demanding time and knowledge to accompany the children. Therefore, it is important to have good communication between parents and teachers to support early childhood online learning during the outbreak. Applications of this study: This article will provide evidence from some countries about the matter of early childhood education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study will be useful for improving the quality of early childhood education. Novelty/Originality of this study: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the early childhood education has changed from the traditional system to online education system to reduce the spread of the diseases. Feminist ways of being allow us to be vulnerable and willing to admit doubt and to live expanded views of early childhood education and teaching. These practices are characterized by a love ethic, attending to entanglements of heartmindbody. In this article, we rely on entangled narratives between ourselves and early childhood educators asking how valuing entangled relationships can expand creative possibilities within onlinelearning spaces. We draw from experiences within the newly established University of New Brunswick online bachelor of education in early childhood. Our research unfolds with a desire to value literate histories often silenced—sometimes lost—within standardized, institutional ways of being and becoming.

Abstract

Early childhood education is a shared responsibility of various parties; not only the government, but also schools, teachers and families (parents). During online learning, learning activities at home are part of the responsibiliy of the parents. This study aims to determine the strategies used by parents in accompanying their children during online learning at home. This research uses descriptive exploration techniques with qualitative analysis. Data collection was carried out in three different early childhood education institutions (PAUD). The results of the data analysis shows that TK A carries out full online learning and uses mentoring strategies by parents including preparing learning equipments, monitoring children during learning, and explaining subjects that are not understood by the children. PAUD B applies semi-online learning using a strategy: parents take and collect children’s homework every Monday. Meanwhile, PAUD C implements offline learning with a mentoring strategy in which the teacher conducts home visits. Parents in PAUD C have a role to supervise their children in learning, where parents come home from work and take the time to accompany their children, then advise the teachers to visit their homes. In general, it can be concluded that basically parents have no reason to not provide assistance to their children while learning from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The synergyy between teachers and parents is the essence of a good early childhood education.

This article describes online learning in early childhood education in Indonesia. Particular attention is paid to the Greater Jakarta area, which is a buffer area of the capital city of Indonesia. This study used a survey method with a questionnaire containing five open-ended questions that the respondents could fill in freely. The questionnaire was distributed through an online form to early childhood education teachers and parents of young children. Respondents' answers were grouped based on their similarity and sorted based on the number of answers, then analyzed quantitatively and descriptively. The results showed that online learning is difficult to implement in early childhood education. The enforced application of online learning in early childhood actually creates many obstacles and causes an unfavorable impact on early childhood behavior while learning. However, online learning in early childhood must still be implemented during a pandemic as it is the only option. The solution to increase the abilities and skills of teachers in planning and implementing online learning include the ability to involve parents. The results of this study are expected to be a reference by teachers, parents, and early childhood education providers in implementing effective online learning in early childhood education in a fun way and paying attention to the characteristics of early childhood.

The issues of teacher facilities and abilities are still a learning obstacle in the pandemic era. Moreover, these issues lead to the non-uniformity of the learning process implementation in early childhood education in Aceh Jaya District. This study analyzes in-depth the reality of the learning process in early childhood education in the pandemic era. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method. The site for the study is in Ceudah Mulia Kindergarten, Teunom District, and Al-Hidayah Kindergarten, Pasie Raya District. Data collection methods were through observation, interviews, and documentation. Analysis of research data was using Miles and Huberman model. The validity tests for the data we are using triangulation of sources and techniques. The results showed that there was a difference between Ceudah Mulia Kindergarten and Al-Hidayah Kindergarten. Ceudah Mulia Kindergarten conducts online learning via WhatsApp by giving assignments and exciting games with parental guidance. Meanwhile, Al-Hidayah Kindergarten does not use social media platforms or other online learning methods due to various limitations, such as common understanding of technology, the availability of inadequate technology facilities owned by schools and parents of students. Al-Hidayah Kindergarten conducts learning by inviting parents and assigning assignments to students, and the children's work is returned to the school for assessment. However, the role of parents in synergizing with teachers during the learning process of early childhood students in the COVID-19 pandemic situation has become key. This study illustrates that not all regions have the same access to implementing early childhood education learning in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings of this study have several important implications for future practice.
