Abstract

Early childhood education is a shared responsibility of various parties; not only the government, but also schools, teachers and families (parents). During online learning, learning activities at home are part of the responsibiliy of the parents. This study aims to determine the strategies used by parents in accompanying their children during online learning at home. This research uses descriptive exploration techniques with qualitative analysis. Data collection was carried out in three different early childhood education institutions (PAUD). The results of the data analysis shows that TK A carries out full online learning and uses mentoring strategies by parents including preparing learning equipments, monitoring children during learning, and explaining subjects that are not understood by the children. PAUD B applies semi-online learning using a strategy: parents take and collect children’s homework every Monday. Meanwhile, PAUD C implements offline learning with a mentoring strategy in which the teacher conducts home visits. Parents in PAUD C have a role to supervise their children in learning, where parents come home from work and take the time to accompany their children, then advise the teachers to visit their homes. In general, it can be concluded that basically parents have no reason to not provide assistance to their children while learning from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The synergyy between teachers and parents is the essence of a good early childhood education.

It emphasizes the importance of the games, toys and their interactions for the development of the formation of the personal and social identity and the role of the teacher in this process. This research is configured as a qualitative and thematic research as an analysis of legal documents as the National Curricular Reference for Childhood Education: personal and social formation (BRASIL, 1998), National Curricular Guidelines for Early Childhood Education (BRASIL, 2010), The toys and games in the nursery: pedagogical guidance manual. (BRAZIL, 2012). We understand that texts and legal laws, even if they are national references, are meaningful in their context and therefore are universal practices, these are revealed in the action of more rigorous than the right of speech and meaning. That is, as rough as legal guidelines are prescribed and universal, what gives meaning to the text and to knowledge is the subject who lives. Keywords: Identity. Child. Personal and social formation. Along with the transition from the New order era to the Reformation era, the central government is committed to providing regional autonomy to district and city governments to manage regional potential, including the potential for education. After the central government gave regional autonomy to district and city governments, the Medan City Government gave autonomy to the head of the Early Childhood Education unit to manage the potential of Early Childhood Education to the maximum, but in reality the management was not optimal. The purpose of this study is to find a model of organizational commitment and to determine the influence between research variables. This research method is a quantitative research method using a survey approach. The study population was 750 people and the sample of this study was 238 people with an error rate of 5%. Sampling is non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling technique based on the provisions of the sample from the population developed by Isaac and Michael. The data collection technique for this research is a questionnaire instrument using a Likert scale and a test instrument using Merriam Webster's New Collegiate Distionary technique. The results of the descriptive analysis show that 235 or 98.74% of the Educational Administrative Knowledge variable tends to be in the low category, while the other variables tend to be in the high category. Furthermore, the results of the calculation of the total direct effect show that the Educational Administrative Knowledge variable on the Organizational Commitment variable is 0.2642 or 26.42%, while the total effect of other variables is low. Furthermore, the direct and indirect proportional, sporious and unanalyzed effect caused by these three variables is 66.02% and the influence of other variables is 33.98%. Furthermore, the research results of the path coefficient test show that all the path diagram coefficients are significant. Furthermore, the results of model testing indicate that the proposed model is fit with empirical data. Therefore, based on the results of this study it is suggested that the Head of the Medan City Education Office can apply this model so that 66.02% of the organizational commitment of the head of the Children's Education unit can be maximally realized.

This chapter aims to shed light on the relationship between the development of laterality and the learning of mathematics in early childhood education using the ABN method. Thus, the authors present an experience developed with 24 children of 4 and 5 years old from several sessions of physical education where laterality and mathematics were worked on in the framework of a project developed in the classroom. The neuropsychological laterality test and a psychomotor table with values referred exclusively to manual and foot laterality, and indicators referred to the ABN method were used as evaluation instruments. The results obtained indicate that students with homogeneous right- or left-handed laterality obtain better results, as well as those with crossed laterality, since they have defined their manual and foot dominance. However, students with undefined laterality obtain worse results, even showing a lateral tendency towards the use of the right side of the body.

AbstractObjectivePre-school nutrition-related behaviours influence diet and development of lifelong eating habits. We examined the prevalence and congruence of recommended nutrition-related behaviours (RNB) in home and early childhood education (ECE) services, exploring differences by child and ECE characteristics.DesignTelephone interviews with mothers. Online survey of ECE managers/head teachers.SettingNew Zealand.SubjectsChildren (n 1181) aged 45 months in the Growing Up in New Zealand longitudinal study.ResultsA mean 5·3 of 8 RNB were followed at home, with statistical differences by gender and ethnic group, but not socio-economic position. ECE services followed a mean 4·8 of 8 RNB, with differences by type of service and health-promotion programme participation. No congruence between adherence at home and in ECE services was found; half of children with high adherence at home attended a service with low adherence. A greater proportion of children in deprived communities attended a service with high adherence, compared with children living in the least deprived communities (20 and 12 %, respectively).ConclusionsChildren, across all socio-economic positions, may not experience RNB at home. ECE settings provide an opportunity to improve or support behaviours learned at home. Targeting of health-promotion programmes in high-deprivation areas has resulted in higher adherence to RNB at these ECE services. The lack of congruence between home and ECE behaviours suggests health-promotion messages may not be effectively communicated to parents/family. Greater support is required across the ECE sector to adhere to RNB and promote wider change that can reach into homes.

AbstractAbout resistance, freedom and coming of age in early childhood education. In order to get an insight in the knowledge early childhood educators bring into play in their daily practices, we have explored about 200 stories from everyday life in Danish Day Care Institutions in collaboration with the pedagogues. What struck us in the analysis of the stories was that the pedagogical importance of resistance was repeatedly mentioned in the pedagogues search for realizing “good pedagogy” in everyday-life. The article points to pedagogues engagements in dealing tactfully with the resistance children encounter as a concern for children’s being in the world, more specifically: children’s ability to make themselves at home in the world (Cleary & Hogan, 2001; Gadamer, 2000). The article argues that engaging in such resistance in tactful ways is also a concern for a formation of the child’s will, enabling the appearance of the child’s subjectivity and the realization of promising children´s communities.

Purpose of the study: The study examined the implementation of early childhood education during the pandemic of COVID-19. Methodology: A systematic review identified the implementation in early childhood education settings. Electronic databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, and manual search on Google Scholar were explored with specific keywords from the inception of the pandemic COVID-19 to November 30, 2020. Main Findings: Early childhood education has been influenced due to school closure. Most of the children experience online learning, to reduce the spread of the outbreak, especially when face-to-face learning cannot be conducted. Parents and teachers have significant roles in supporting the children to improve their cognitive and social development. However, the implementation of home learning causes some difficulties in relation to the self-regulation of very young children, the readiness to utilize digital technology and learning materials, parent’s beliefs and attitudes on online learning compared with traditional learning, and requirements of demanding time and knowledge to accompany the children. Therefore, it is important to have good communication between parents and teachers to support early childhood online learning during the outbreak. Applications of this study: This article will provide evidence from some countries about the matter of early childhood education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study will be useful for improving the quality of early childhood education. Novelty/Originality of this study: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the early childhood education has changed from the traditional system to online education system to reduce the spread of the diseases. This article will show the various implementations of learning system during the outbreak and the lesson learned.

Feminist ways of being allow us to be vulnerable and willing to admit doubt and to live expanded views of early childhood education and teaching. These practices are characterized by a love ethic, attending to entanglements of heartmindbody. In this article, we rely on entangled narratives between ourselves and early childhood educators asking how valuing entangled relationships can expand creative possibilities within onlinelearning spaces. We draw from experiences within the newly established University of New Brunswick online bachelor of education in early childhood. Our research unfolds with a desire to value literate histories often silenced—sometimes lost—within standardized, institutional ways of being and becoming.
