Abstract. This research aims to design a model of product cost calculation for laundry establishments so that the owners are able to make better decisions based on a more accurate product cost information. More accurate product cost can guide cost reduction initiatives that will improve company profitability. Cost assignment method used in this research is Activity-based Costing system. By implementing this method, cost of a product will be in line with the resources consumed by the product.  In designing the model, researchers did preliminary study, literature study, and data collection activities (interviews and observations). The researchers concluded that many of laundry establishments have not calculated product cost. Therefore, it is suggested that the owners do product cost calculation based on ABC system after weighing the costs and benefits. Moreover, the model should be adapted to each establishment’s business processes. In further research, environmental costs should be incorporated in the model. Abstrak. Penelitian ini  bertujuan untuk menghasilkan model perhitungan harga pokok  jasa yang dapat diterapkan pada usaha laundry untuk pengambilan keputusan yang lebih baik dan pada akhirnya dapat juga digunakan untuk pengendalian biaya, sehingga meningkatkan profitabilitas perusahaan. Metode pembebanan biaya yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Activity-Based Costing system (ABC).  Dengan menggunakan metode ini dapat dihasilkan harga pokok produk yang tepat sesuai dengan sumber daya yang dinikmati oleh produk atau jasa yang dihasilkan. Dalam menghasilkan model, dilakukan kegiatan studi pendahuluan, studi literatur, pengumpulan data melalui dokumentasi, wawancara dan observasi. Dari penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa perusahaan laundry tidak pernah menghitung harga  pokok  untuk  jasa laundry  mereka,  oleh  karena  itu, disarankan  agar pengusaha laundry sebaiknya menghitung harga pokok menggunakan metode ABC dengan membandingkan  biaya  dan manfaat  yang  dihasilkan  serta  pengadaptasian model sesuai kondisi di masing-masing perusahaan. Dalam penelitian lebih lanjut, sebaiknya unsur biaya lingkungan dapat dimasukkan ke dalam model perhitungan harga pokok.

Increasing competition forces companies to be competitive. Competitiveness can be achieved by conveying product value to consumers at low prices. To achieve this, a good cost approach is needed, one of which is the Activity-Based Costing System (ABC). In this literature study the authors divide ABC into 3 parts, namely the concept of ABC, the stages in ABC and the costs and benefits of implementing ABC. ABC is a cost approach method by calculating the cost of activities to produce products, both goods and services where these activities require resources. After conducting a literature study, the authors found similarities and inequalities among several literatures and then draw conclusions. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the ABC system is used by companies to get more accurate production costs, accurate production costs can increase company profits and the criteria for companies that are suitable for using the ABC system are companies with a high level of product diversity, there is intense competition with companies that produce similar products, as well as the cost of implementing the ABC system is low.

The selection of the right cost calculation method is of critical importance when it comes to determining the real product profitability (as well as clients and other calculation objects). Traditional cost calculation methods often provide false information. The literature offers many examples of big companies that have given up traditional methods and applied a new method: activity-based costing (ABC). They discovered that many products that are manufactured generate losses and not profits. Managers, based on incorrect calculations, mistakenly believed in the profitability of each product. Turney (1991) reports on an example of an American manufacturer of over 4,000 different integrated circuits. The cost calculation with the allocation of direct production costs as machinery-hour markup demonstrated a profit margin of over 26% for each product. Implementing ABC showed that the production of more than half of the products was not profitable, and having factored in additional sales and management costs (which accounted for about 40% of the total costs), it was as much as over 75%.

In developing an information system the school must determine a strategy in its development. Look for managers who are reliable in making decisions that are oriented to reliable development. One of the proper management concepts is cost accuracy. Accuracy of charging costs on cost objects is very important for users of cost information. Beside the accuracy, it is also needed to find out the cost per unit needed in the information system. This is intended to have a price benchmark for the development of information systems in the future. In this study the unit cost calculation uses the ABC (Activity Based Costing) method which emphasizes the cost calculation for the activities involved. The allocation of costs is based on salary data from trusted institutions, namely the Pedoman Standard Minimal 2019 by INKINDO. The results of this study get a total cost value of 18.407.082,00while the cost of each complexity is 5,301.00 with the standard cost of procurement of goods and services issued by the government and several survey institutions.

The purpose of this study is to describe and calculate the unit cost in developing the information system for Islamic boarding schools. This research uses a descriptive-quantitative approach. Data collection methods are observation and documentation. The descriptive approach in this study is used to analyze and interpret the data from observations and documentation that have been collected, while the quantitative approach in this study is used to explain the nominal unit cost calculation using the ABC (Activity Based Costing) method. In every development of an information system, the costs required are quite a lot and have several complex parameters, so that one of the management concepts is needed, namely cost accuracy. This becomes important for users of cost information to determine the cost effectiveness used by each unit as well as a reference price in further information system development, in this case the cost of developing an information system for Islamic boarding schools. The method we use in calculating unit costs is ABC (Activity Based Costing), where the calculation system charges costs for each activity involved before calculating product costs. The number of activities in developing a software or information system makes this method suitable to be applied in cost accuracy. The standard benchmark for the cost of procuring goods and services in this study is in accordance with government regulations and several observations, while the amount of salary costs follows the 2019 Minimum Standard Guidelines issued by INKINDO (National Association of Indonesian Consultants). The results of this study show that in developing the information system for Islamic boarding schools, the total cost required is Rp. 79,100,000.00 with a unit cost of Rp. 17,673,607.35.

The purpose of this research is to design a production company fitted full product cost calculation model following analysis of Activity Based Costing (ABC), its modifications and LEAN accounting system principles. The study is based on analysis and comparison in ABC, Time Driven Activity Based Costing (TDABC), Service-Based Costing (S-BC), Duration Based Costing (DBC) and LEAN accounting. The designed innovative full product cost calculation model integrates the following management system elements: LEAN value streams, ABC activities, TDABC time driver, S-BC customer rating, and DBC production duration factor, and has been adapted to a company producing large and complex unique articles. Applicability analysis of the model has involved data systematization, grouping, collection of additional data under the interview method, data interpretation, summarisation, logical conclusion making. Applicability of this model and more efficient control of the pricing decisions at the company, ensuring its greater competitive ability, have been justified by financial calculations. In formation of the full cost calculation model, both the quantitative and qualitative research elements were used: analysis of the modern cost accounting systems was performed; applicability, implications and limitations of the designed model were tested using actual data of the selected industrial company.

The Activity of Based Costing (ABC) Method is a simple calculation to determine the cost of price / services to explain that the activity were the reason one to make rise the cost of the products, and products that consume activity.The hotel can use Activity Based Costing (ABC) System Method to determine hotel room rate because when they use the Activity economic method in detail, the quality of decision can be improve to be better and making more accurate. The purpose of this research is “to obtain the accurate information about Activity Based Costing” in counting the cost calculation rooms Hotel Green Eden Manado since from June, July, and August 2017. The method of analysis that I used is “Descriptive Analysis Method”, by conducting to interview to the hotel manager and doing the data collection regarding the costs and amounts of fees. Based on the analysis, there are find that Activity Based Costing System for the month of June. Superior room type, Deluxe room and Suite resulted that the cost of price rooms were lower to compared with the cost by hotel management. For July the calculation of the cost Superior room type was higher than the cost of calculated by the management Hotel. And for the type of Deluxe rooms and Suite rooms were lower to compared with the cost by the Hotel. And for the month of August the calculation for Superior, Suite, and Deluxe rooms resulted that the cost were higher than the cost calculation used by The Hotel Management.Keywords : Activity Based Costing,  The cost of rooms.

Purpose: The main objective of the article is to develop and present a concept for the implementation of activity-based costing in a company dealing with multi-assortment production of bookbinding machinery. However, due to the publishing requirements, the article was divided into two parts – the first one describes the theoretical approach to the problem and the second one presents the case study. Therefore, the aim of this part of the considerations is to present the shortcomings of traditional methods of unit cost calculation in the light of the literature on the subject and to present the main assumptions and calculation procedures of the concept of activity-based costing. Design/methodology/approach: The main research methods used in this part of the considerations are: analysis of the literature on the subject and inference. Findings: The result of the research is the conclusion that the traditional methods of unit cost calculation, i.e. full costing and variable costing, are insufficient for effective cost management in the company. Originality/value: This part of the analysis presents in a synthetic way the identified main disadvantages of traditional unit costing methods. An alternative solution to the discussed problem was also presented here, i.e. the change of the applied costing system into an activity based costing system – analyzing its assumptions and calculation procedures. This content is directed both to persons dealing with these matters from the theoretical perspective, as well as company owners and heads of controlling or production departments.

Activity Based Costing System can provide information for the better of cost calculation and can assist management to manage the company efficiently and gain a better understanding on competitive advantages, strengths, and weaknesses of the company. So that with Activity Based Costing can present carefully the information of cost product and accurately to the interests of management and comparing the cost calculation of production by using traditional methods and Activity Based Costing (ABC) at UD. Cella Cake and Bakery Manado. The purpose of this study was to determine the cost calculation of production using traditional methods and Activity Based Costing (ABC). The research method used is descriptive method. The results showed that the cost calculation of production using Activity-Based Costing System provides results that are more expensive than traditional systems on Pizza Chicken Bread, Sausage Bread and donuts. Traditional systems provide greater profit than the Activity-Based Costing system, because the calculations with the traditional system using only one cost driver so make inefficiency costs and generate profit and irrelevant

This article examines the implementation of activity-based costing (ABC) in the SMEs sector in a developing country. The consequences of ABC on the evolution of management accounting and its impact on the accounting processes, particular as it relates to organizational cost performance has been a subject of discourse in the past two decades. This study provides some insight into the conspicuous paradox that in spite of the theoretical benefits of ABC, very few SMEs in South Africa adopt it and that a material number of those that employ ABC do not actually implement it. It is a preliminary study which begins by describing the differences between the traditional and the ABC cost systems; particularly examining the impact of employee training and managerial commitment to ABC implementation. An overview of some literature on ABC and the value of ABC implementation in SMEs sector is provided, reporting some experiences of South African SMEs in implementing ABC. A framework for the implementation of ABC in SMEs and impact on their performance is presented. Using survey data collected from SMEs (n = 149), the results and discussions indicate the prominence of both employee training and managerial commitment as precursors to effective implementation of ABC and that its implementation impacts on SME performance. Implementation of ABC precedes the creation of a costing system that provides management with reliable cost information. The paper concludes by providing, managerial implications, limitations and proposed future research.

Abstract Costing system is an essential part of a company. Determining the accurate cost of a product or service is extremely important for the profitability and performance of a company. Over the years, different approaches and models have been developed to estimate the cost of the product manufactured. However, their models were found to be inadequate in the correct value of the product cost. In the last decade, activity-based costing (ABC) has been successfully adopted by many companies worldwide. Nonetheless, because of its high maintenance and setup cost, it has been abandoned and a new time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) model has been developed. Though adopted by many large scale-manufacturing industries, TDABC has not been implemented in small scale manufacturing companies due to unavailability of resources and also ignorance about its implementation. This paper presents a model for the application of TDABC in the small scale manufacturing industry. The model is implemented in a furniture manufacturing company for the estimation of product cost. The cost obtained from the TDABC is compared with the traditional costing system and established the accuracy of TDABC over the traditional costing system. Along with the case study, this paper also discusses the different data results obtained from TDABC and its utility for the managers and the decision makers.
