The central problem to discuss in this article is the construction of masculinities among a group of men who practice rugby as a sport associated with a distinctive and selective character (related to class position) in the city of La Plata, and in Argentina. From an ethnographic approach –fundamentally- the representations that a group of rugby players has on their own practice, on their ways of being and acting like a man will be analyzed. The hypothesis of this work is that rugby is a space of moral, social and cultural distinction in La Plata, and a place where a dominant male model is produced and reproduced, where the exaltation of virility is an attribute showed positively between the group of men who try, at all times, to keep their manliness; it is the guarantee to support legacy linked to gender and the way of establishing a different space of sociability and distinctive. Strength, vigor, courage and bravery articulate the imaginary of a <em>real man</em> in the field of rugby in Argentina.

Resumen: Este artículo recoge los resultados de una tesis doctoral realizada en el período 2013-2018, en donde se analiza la configuración del circuito de rock de la ciudad de La Plata. Retomando algunos resultados, aquí analizaremos los itinerarios de un conjunto de músicos/as integrantes del circuito, enfocándonos en sus trayectorias, en los trayectos que realizan en el espacio urbano y en las lógicas que organizan sus andares. Sostenemos como hipótesis que son las trayectorias de los actores las que modulan los trayectos que realizan, así como son esos recorridos espaciales los que poseen un carácter performativo sobre sus biografías. La estrategia metodológica será de tipo cualitativa, utilizando diversas herramientas de producción de datos, en donde se destaca la técnica de sombreo (Jirón, 2012). Asimismo, este artículo también brinda una reflexión sobre herramientas metodológicas para estudiar prácticas artísticas en la ciudad y su reciprocidad: el modo en que la ciudad condiciona las prácticas, las formas en que estas prácticas producen ciudad.Palabras Clave: Circuito. Sombreo URBAN ROCKER ITINERARIES IN LA PLATA CITY, BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA. This article collects the results of a doctoral thesis carried out in the period 2013-2018, where the configuration of the circuit of rock in La Plata city. Returning to some results, here we will analyze the itineraries of a group of musicians who are members of the circuit, focusing on their trajectories, the journeys they make in the urban space and the logics that organize their gait. We hypothesize that it’s the trajectories of the actors that modulate the paths they make, as well as those spatial paths that have a performative character about their biographies. The methodological strategy will be qualitative, using various data production tools, where the shadow (Jirón, 2012) stands out as a technique.Likewise, this article also provides a reflection on methodological tools to study artistic practices in the city and their reciprocity: the way the city conditions practices, the ways in which these practices produce city.Keywords: Circuit. The article analyses descriptions, memories, and notes on Dresden found in eighteenth-century accounts of Polish travellers. The overarching research objective is to capture the specificity of the way of presenting the city. The ways that Dresden is described are determined by genological diversity of texts, different ways of narration, the use of rhetorical repertoire, and the time of their creation. There are two dominant ways of presenting the city: the first one foregrounds the architectural and historical values, the second one revolves around social life and various kinds of games (redoubts, performances).

This chapter examines the tension in classical thought between reciprocity and altruism as the two fundamental grounds of interpersonal relations within the city and, to a lesser extent, between citizens and foreigners. It summarizes the chapters that follow, and examines in particular the ideas of altruism and egoism and defends their application to ancient ethics. Various attempts to reconcile the two, especially in respect to Aristotle’s conception of virtue as other-regarding, are considered, and with the relationship to modern concepts of “egoism” and “altruism” is explored. The introduction concludes by noting that one of the premises of the book is that, in classical antiquity, love was deemed to play a larger role in the way people accounted for motivation in a number of domains, including friendship, loyalty, gratitude, grief, and civic harmony.

Within Sacher-Masoch’s Venus in Furs, this chapter argues, Roman antiquity represents a privileged landscape of error, while the protagonists, Severin and Wanda, portray their “perverse” sexual predilections as error of a distinctly Roman kind. Delving further than any previous critic into the novella’s classical allusions, this chapter shows how Sacher-Masoch’s narrative depends on reversing elements of Lucretius, Ovid, and Apuleius. This chapter also demonstrates how this relates to the way in which a concept of reversal in general—especially the normative paradigm of the sexually dominant male and submissive female—organizes the text’s very structure. Extending Deleuze’s views on the centrality of the contract to masochistic fantasy, this chapter highlights the contract as a textual device able to represent the short circuit of the masochistic aesthetic, within which antiquity plays a major role.

Among the recent approaches to literacy incorporated into Literacy Studies, the concept of (im)materiality has enabled researchers to delve into the fluid and hybrid nature of contemporary literacy practices in early childhood. Our research explores the (im)materiality of literacy practices from the perspectives of space, screen mediation, artefacts and embodiment. The research focuses on the (im)material nature of the literacy practices carried out in different spaces, and its relevance in the making of meaning by children. The research method is based on an ethnographic approach. The results show the children’s embodiment of their literacy practices, and the way in which they create and interact with space and make meaning from their (im)material practices. These practices raise questions about their inclusion in current literacy development in schools.

Abstract This article explores how the publisher Cornelis vander Plasse managed to promote the literary career of the Dutch playwright Gerbrand Bredero (1585–1618) by using Amsterdam as a place. It is concerned with the way in which this Amsterdam-based publisher took decisions both to comply with Bredero's work and to derive maximum benefit from its publication. One of his strategies was to deploy the city as a recognizable trademark to Bredero's work. By using the advantages that the ‘place’ of Amsterdam offered him, he proved himself an expert in marketing and advertising, laying the foundation of Bredero's reputation as both an Amsterdam-based and national author in the centuries to follow.

Abstract:In contemporary urban Africa, the turbulence of the city requires incessant innovation that is capable of generating new ways of being. Rather than treating popular culture as some distinctive sector, this article attempts to investigate the popular as methods of bringing together activities and actors that on the surface would not seem compatible, and as experimental forms of generating value in the everyday life of urban residents. This investigation, sited largely in Douala, Cameroon, looks at how youth from varying neighborhoods attempt to get by, and at the unexpected forms of contestation that can ensue.

Santiago de Compostela is an iconic place. From the 9th century through to the present day the city has acted as the final destination of a major pilgrimage route named after it. In the article we ask ourselves how the contemporary reinvention of the pilgrimage and pilgrimages on the Way of St. James has boosted tourism development in the city. Development has been concentrated in the historic city centre and in the area around the cathedral. The importance of tourism has transformed the significance of the city itself, which acquires a magical component as a place of arrival and encounter for all kinds of visitors. The historic city has been set up in the 20th century as a destination for the Way and for cultural tourism. The buildings, particularly those connected with the pilgrimage route, become highly attractive and symbolic places and tourists carry out a number of rituals in them. They travel and enjoy Santiago as a unique experience. The study of tourism and of the tourist transformation of Santiago de Compostela is undertaken using a qualitative and quantitative method. The article analyses the heritage and symbolic value of the historic centre, together with the growth of its tourism activities. Numerical data are also provided on the perceptions and behaviour of visitors using surveys carried out by the city's Tourism Observatory.

Road Landscape design does not exist independently in urban construction but intergrates into the urban cultures by design. This article discusses based on Huangshi Mining and Metallurgy culture the urban road design from the aspects of color, pavement, blind sidewalk, plants, and public environment facilities. Also it proposes the way of design that combines cultural landscape and natural landscape according to the city geographical features, therefore makes the urban road landscape design to be more cultural and representative.
