Application of OLAP Technology in the Environment of Electronic Demography

The article proposes an approach to the development of an electronic demographic decision support system using technologies of Data Warehouse (DW) and Interactive Analytical Processing OLAP. This makes it possible to conduct high-level demographic research and provide support to decision-makers in demographic sphere. The article notes that demography is an interdisciplinary field of research and is defined as a complex science. Each industry of demography has many indicators. A sample list of these indicators is presented. The main characteristics of the DW, which should be taken into account when developing its architecture, are stated. Among these characteristics, one can find the main defining characteristics of Big Data — volume, velocity, variety, veracity, variability, visualization, value etc. For a more rational and efficient use of a large amount of information, taking into account its constant increase, to ensure the speed of execution of requests for a given system, it is proposed to use a Bus of Interconnected Data Marts (DM) as an architecture of DW. One of the advantages of using DM is that their use assumes distributed parallel data processing. This architecture allows for much faster results generation. It is based on the MapReduce distributed computing model and the Hadoop project. In addition, to effectively use large amounts of data, it is also proposed to use OLAP operations such as roll-up and drill-down, as well as fuzzy set theory, based on the technique of computing with words. The article also shows the practical application of interconnected DM. An OLAP cube is built on the basis of these DM. OLAP operations provide the ability to view cubes in different slices and provide aggregate data.

The article suggests an approach to the development of an electronic demographic decision support system using data warehouse and interactive analytical processing OLAP. This makes it possible to conduct research on demographic processes at a high level and to support decision makers in the field of demography. Due to the presence of many types of demography and a large number of indicators, proposed in the article, a Data Mart Bus Architecture with Linked Dimensional Data Marts is proposed as a Data Warehouse architecture. The article also shows the practical application of this approach using two Data Marts as an example. Based on these Data Marts, OLAP-cubes are built. OLAP operations provide the ability to view cubes in various slices, as well as provide aggregate data.

Decision makers query enterprise information stored in Data Warehouses (DW) by using tools (such as On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) tools) which employ specific views or cubes from the corporate DW or Data Marts, based on multidimensional modelling. Since the information managed is critical, security constraints have to be correctly established in order to avoid unauthorized access. In previous work we defined a Model-Driven based approach for developing a secure DW repository by following a relational approach. Nevertheless, it is also important to define security constraints in the metadata layer that connects the DW repository with the OLAP tools; that is, over the same multidimensional structures that end users manage. This paper incorporates a proposal for developing secure OLAP applications within our previous approach: it improves a UML profile for conceptual modelling; it defines a logical metamodel for OLAP applications; and it defines and implements transformations from conceptual to logical models, as well as from logical models to secure implementation in a specific OLAP tool (SQL Server Analysis Services).


The selection of hospital sites is one of the most important choice a decision maker has to take so as to resist the pandemic. The decision may considerably affect the outbreak transmission in terms of efficiency , budget, etc. The main targeted objective of this study is to find the ideal location where to set up a hospital in the willaya of Oran Alg. For this reason, we have used a geographic information system coupled to the multi-criteria analysis method AHP in order to evaluate diverse criteria of physiological positioning , environmental and economical. Another objective of this study is to evaluate the advanced techniques of the automatic learning . the method of the random forest (RF) for the patterning of the hospital site selection in the willaya of Oran. The result of our study may be useful to decision makers to know the suitability of the sites as it provides a high level of confidence and consequently accelerate the power to control the COVID19 pandemic.

Micro-segmentation of local networks is an important element of network security. The main goal of micro-segmentation of network is to reduce a risk of compromising hosts during a cyber-attack. In micro-segmented networks, if one of the hosts has been compromised, the malicious code or attacker will be limited in the "horizontal" actions by the micro-segment to which the compromised host belongs. Existing methods of micro-segmentation of networks have operational drawbacks that impede their effective practical application. This article presents a new method of micro-segmentation of local wired and wireless networks based on downloadable and wireless access control lists, which allows to achieve a high level of granularity of network access policies by minimizing the microsegment, along with high operational characteristics.

The objects of the research are tools that support the description and analytical processing of environmental data requests. These tools are used for environmental monitoring. Analytical processing of environmental data is necessary for this monitoring by the persons concerned. Here, a star schema is used to describe the data. Analytical data processing tools are required for analysis and research of environmental data. The results of analytical processing of environmental data are used to speed up decision-making. This article also describes the structure of the analytical data processing tool. Therefore, one of the problem points is how to describe the data. For this purpose, an environmental data relay scheme is defined, and the data description is implemented in multidimensional cubes. Due to the growth of data volume, data processing is carried out using multi-dimensional visualization methods. In addition, a visual user interface has been created for analytically processing queries based on scale data. The result of this research is to find a method for describing environmental data. At the end of the research, a hypercube was obtained, with the help of which it was possible to structure environmental data and carry out analytical processing of them. To this end, environmental data have been described using a multi-dimensional visualization method. And OLAP technologies were used to carry out analytical processing of this data. OLAP technologies allow aggregate data to be used and presented as a hypercube. The results of the research can be used as a basis for an environmental information system that is used for environmental monitoring.

This study aims to identify the extent of the response of operating banks in Jordan to the anti-money laundering and terrorism financing instructions set by the Central Bank of Jordan, and to enumerate the effectiveness of these sets of laws, the echelon of cooperation with the relevant government agencies and the impact of contiguous political and security conditions on the anti-money laundering and financing of terrorism. To attain the objectives of this study and to test its hypotheses, a descriptive analytical method was followed based on related data of the Central Bank instructions and the engaged procedures by operating banks to combat money laundering and financing of terrorism. Therefore, a questionnaire was designed and distributed to the managers of anti-money laundering departments in operating banks in Jordan. The study shows various outcomes, the most important is the high responding of operating banks in Jordan to the instructions of the anti-money laundering and terrorism financing issued by the Central Bank of Jordan. The existence of practical application of money laundering and terrorism financing instructions fights against money laundering and terrorism financing in banks in Jordan at a soaring level. In addition to the functional cooperation by the competent governmental authorities in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, this study introduces a set of recommendations to reinforce the cooperation level for every related party to achieve a high level of cooperation in the field of the anti-money laundering and financing terrorism.

This case aims to analyze risk management practices of Millennium Development International (MDI) and suggest enhancements based on a theoretical framework derived from the literature while considering the implications to its organizational structure. Al-Shamiyah project in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, is used as an example to illustrate the practices of MDI. Due to a high level of risk associated with large-scale development projects, it is argued that the traditional risk management approach is not convenient to the context of these projects. Each large-scale project has a high level of uniqueness that renders benchmarks generated out of previous projects obsolete. Hence, a reactive risk management approach is being promoted. For the purpose of optimizing this approach, engaging necessary experts and securing the presence of key decision makers in the process, the formulated system defines key milestones at which risks need to be assessed and proper decisions need to be taken.

Due to the international economic competition, enterprises are ever looking for efficient methods to build data marts/warehouses to analyze the large data volume in their decision making process. On the other hand, even though the relational data model is the most commonly used model, any data mart/ warehouse construction method must now deal with other data types and in particular XML documents which represent the dominant type of data exchanged between partners and retrieved from the Web. This chapter presents a data mart design method that starts from both a relational database source and XML documents compliant to a given DTD. Besides considering these two types of data structures, the originality of our method lies in its being decision maker centered, its automatic extraction of loadable data mart schemas and its genericity.

Chapter 2 documents the establishment of demography, the social science of human population dynamics, in the United States during the 1930s. It contends that this interdisciplinary field was able to build an institutional structure because of support from eugenicist Frederick Osborn, who saw in demography an ally for the creation of a postracial democratic version of eugenics. Osborn’s new brand of eugenics emphasized birth control rather than sterilization and worked through the private sector rather than the public sector. He fused birth control advocacy with eugenics in a strategy he termed “family planning,” which signaled reproductive autonomy in the context of social control. Osborn secured patronage for demography from the Milbank Memorial Fund and the Carnegie Corporation, and an audience for demographic research in the New Deal welfare state. He leveraged his influence to focus demography’s research program on producing support for his family planning–based eugenic project.
