Since the middle 1970s, the public has been seriously concerned about cases of school shooting — an armed attack by students on educational organizations. The global type of activity of social networks, as well as the high potential for the dissemination of destructive information in cyberspace with the use of anonymization, assigns digital resources, in fact, unlimited freedom of action. In this study, an attempt to semantic content analysis of digital destructive content of school shooting is made. The purpose of the study is to determine the system of signs of destructive content suitable for its identification in cyberspace through semantic analysis of the text openly published by users on the social network ‘Vkontakte’, using neural networks. The conducted research allowed us to identify a number of important signs of destructive content of school shooting with the allocation of thematic groups: indirect content of school shooting; drug content; mental distress.

The article shows that the ongoing processes of networkization, digitalization and hybridization lead to the creation of such a sociotechnical phenomenon as information and analytical platforms, which actualize a new type of social network relations between authorities and citizens in the public space of communications. In these conditions, a new methodology of public administration is required, which would take into account the digital realities of the modern world. According to the authors, the new concept of public administration should be built taking into account the development of a methodology for the following mutually conditioned processes: 1) creation of information and analytical platforms of the digital society; 2) formation of social structures in the network space; 3) configuration of relational networks for solving socially significant problems. It should be based on the actor-network concept and the digitalization ethics, the social network analysis, the relational sociology, the concept of figuration, the fractal-evolutionary concept, the concept of configuring a relational network of stakeholders.

ABSTRACT: Recent study on the micro-discursive and the macro-discursive levels of the digital genre comment, on the social network Facebook, proved that this genre is a discursive superstructure. Based on the analysis of discursive functions of Tedesco (2002) of direct anaphoric expressions, it was possible to verify the intertextuality phenomenon in text sequences of the digital genre comment, property of textual coherence. Intertextuality is a property recognized in hypertexts. However, it is observed that approaches on intertextuality in hypertexts, specifically on the Internet, are deficient because they do not exemplify how coherence property is developed in digital genres. In this sense, this article aims at discussing intertextuality and its discursive particularities from the discursive functions of direct anaphoric expressions in verbal texts of comments published in the public profile of the journalist Eliane Cantanhêde. The direct anaphoric expressions present a significant cohesive function in verbal texts, which are textual and cognitive strategies that contribute much to the production of meanings of the text and thus reflect that the instability of objects in the use of language. This is an approach based on Textual Linguistics, which presents the concept of language with an interaction activity that presupposes the existence of the social subject. KEYWORDS: intertextuality; anaphoric functions; discursive genre comment; Facebook.

Facebook keeps a keen eye on the inhabitants of the world by tracking users’ lives as they create profiles, connect with friends, and share pictures, videos, and statuses. Drawing from the work of Michel Foucault, Jeremy Bentham, David Miller, and Michael Welch, in this article I consider how Facebook exists in the world of technology as a modern day panopticon and argue that, by creating a platform on which users can instantly post and share their private lives with the public, Facebook blurs the lines between the private and public domains. Through a review of the workings and features of Facebook, I argue that the social network site is a virtual rendition of the penitentiary.

Crowdsourcing significantly augments the creativity of the public and has become an indispensable component of many problem-solving pipelines. The main challenge, however, is the effective identification of malicious participators while distributing crowdsourcing tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel task-distributing system named Task-Distributing system of crowdsourcing based on Social Relation Cognition (TDSRC) to select qualified participators. First, we divided the tasks into categories according to task themes. Then, we constructed and calculated the Abilities Set (AS), Abilities Values (AVs), and the Friends’ Abilities Matrix (FAM) by using the historical interactive texts between a given task publisher (requester) and its friends. When a requester distributes a task, TDSRC can generate the candidate participators’ sequence based on the task needs and FAM. Finally, the best-matched friends in the sequence are selected as the task receivers (solvers), thus producing a personal FAM to disseminate the tasks. The experimental results indicate that (1) the proposed system can accurately and effectively discover the requester’s friends’ abilities and select appropriate solvers and (2) the natural trust relationship in the social network reduces fraudsters and enhances the quality of crowdsourcing services.

The public is increasingly relying on Twitter for climate change information; however, to date, this social media platform is poorly understood in terms of how climate change information is shared. This study evaluates discussions on Twitter during the 2015 United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP21) to elucidate the social media platform’s role in communicating climate change information. For a five-day period, links embedded in a sample of tweets containing “#climatechange” were characterized, Twitter users were classified by the types of links they typically shared, and their degree centralities (the number of connections for each user) were measured. There was little skeptical content across all user categories; however, news links were more likely than non-news to contain content that is skeptical of climate change. Users who typically shared skeptical news links and users who typically shared non-skeptical non-news links exhibited a relatively high number of connections with other users.

Paralympic sport over the years has been gaining visibility in the different media, and along with this growth, the participation of the public as consumer and producer of information is also highlighted by the interaction allowed through the digital convergence. The purpose of this study was to characterize the contents that were produced and circulated about the sport and paralympic athletes during the opening and closing of the JP of Rio / 2016 on the social network Twitter. We conducted an observational and descriptive research based on the official hashtags of the open channel Tv Brasil and the cable channel Sportv, official stations of the megaevento (#vemprapara and #jogosparalimpicosnoSportv, respectively), during the previous days and the days of the opening and closure ceremonies of the JP, on 06, 07, 17 and 18 of september of 2016. We conclude that the postings revealed a sense of emotion, affection and enchantment, or recognition of athletes' abilities and skills, as well as a critique of the formatting of paralympic sport as a space of inclusion and accessibility.

This paper aims to identify the way Gazeta do Povo has used Facebook as a content distribution platform. After the restructuring of the journal in June 2017, the social network has been shown to be an important channel for the dissemination of the material produced by the communication vehicle. So the research seeks to understand the logic of using the tool, based on the most explored themes, as well as the genre and the coverage of the posts, relating these characteristics to the return in relation to the number of likes, comments and sharing. The research analyzes the destined space to the political questions and those subjects classified as controversial, identifying how they present themselves in the coverage from the journalistic genre. The methodology used is the quantitative content analysis, and the variables were created from Larsson (2016) and Weber (2014), for the categorization of 820 posts carried out during 15 days of coverage through Facebook fanpage. The results indicate that the vehicle chooses to post policy news and that the public tends to comment more on controversial political news.

Given that novel merchandising informatics is seen as a better approach to studying eco-friendly markets, this study aimed to explore consumer socialization of sustainable networks based on the theory of consumer socialization. By employing social network analysis using the NodeXL program, we examined the social class hierarchy, investigated the structure of social agent–learner relationships, and explored the social learning properties of the eBay Green Team Facebook network. The results indicated that the network has been structured as a ‘tight-crowd network’ through 76,482 interactions among 1612 actors from 19 clusters. Specifically, the centrality measure revealed the top influentials and their interactions with other eBay Green participants. The semantic analysis discerned the salient words, which implies that consumers gain utility from this network. We concluded that sustainable networks in social media can provide an account of the socialization of consumer attitudes and the role of top influentials in sustaining the relational network.

There have been strong calls for scientists to share their discoveries with society. Some scientists have heeded these calls through social media platforms such as Twitter. Here, we ask whether Twitter allows scientists to promote their findings primarily to other scientists (“inreach”), or whether it can help them reach broader, non-scientific audiences (“outreach”). We analyzed the Twitter followers of more than 100 faculty members in ecology and evolutionary biology and found that their followers are, on average, predominantly (∼55%) other scientists. However, beyond a threshold of ∼1000 followers, the range of follower types became more diverse and included research and educational organizations, media, members of the public with no stated association with science, and a small number of decision-makers. This varied audience was, in turn, followed by more people, resulting in an exponential increase in the social media reach of tweeting academic scientists. Tweeting, therefore, has the potential to disseminate scientific information widely after initial efforts to gain followers. These results should encourage scientists to invest in building a social media presence for scientific outreach.
