This paper studies the development of medical education under 5g technology, and explores a new mixed teaching mode under the background of medical reform based on 5g network technology and competency. This paper supports students' real-time streaming media and real-time online interaction in the form of multipoint and multi terminal, and carries out a series of medical integration education courses based on 5G network. In addition, formative assessment is conducted after each class. A comprehensive evaluation system is formed through feedback reflection guidance and summative evaluation in the last class. This can help students improve their core competitiveness. The results show that 5G network provides experienced data rate and meets the bandwidth requirements of downlink and uplink throughput in the course. The formative assessment and feedback cycle supported by 5G network can be used on the platform to predict medical students' learning habits and scores more quickly and accurately, which is helpful to improve the quality of education and teaching. The realization of medical education through 5G network technology is a new exploration of teaching mode. It can not only improve the learning initiative and enthusiasm of medical students, but also cultivate and improve the core competence of medical students.

Abstract Background: WeChat and micro-courses have become important tools for improving medical education. However, most research just focused on one of them, and investigations about “WeChat + micro-courses” teaching mode were still lacking. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate medical students’ use of WeChat and micro-courses and to analyze the possibility of “WeChat + micro-courses” teaching mode.Methods: This investigation was conducted among 534 full-time undergraduates in Nanjing Medical University. A self-reported questionnaire was adopted to collect data. Data were entered and checked with EpiData 3.0 and were analyzed with STATA 13.Results: 534 participants successfully completed the questionnaires. Most students in all specialties used WeChat. More students in preventive medicine subscribed to OAs related to other majors (χ2 = 28.49, P < 0.01). In three majors, almost 80% of students spent less than 10 minutes or 10-30 minutes browsing OA articles every day. As for micro-courses, using frequency in biostatistics was significantly higher than that in preventive medicine and hygienic analysis and detection (χ2 = 16.68, P < 0.01). Plenty of students complained about the lack of interactions while learning with micro-courses.Conclusions: It was promising to apply “WeChat + micro-courses” mode in medical education.

Medical education programs must deliver valued results that stakeholders expect in return for their funding investments. In the past, healthcare organizations accepted reports about test results and participant perceptions of the program as adequate evidence of course outcomes. Today, program funders expect evaluations that provide evidence that medical education programs improve organizational excellence measures to justify ongoing funding. This chapter will explain four of the five elements required of a proven, comprehensive evaluation system. This five-element system is necessary to provide the desired organizational excellence evidence that medical educators can adopt to address the needs of stakeholders at different levels of an organization. Specifically, this chapter will overview an evaluation framework, a process model, and guiding principles that are crucial elements of this methodology. The chapter ends with a case study that shows how a medical education team used this measurement and evaluation methodology to plan how they would design and evaluate a medical education program requested by executives to solve an ICU central line infection problem.

This cross sectional descriptive study was carried out to determine the students' view about the influence of formative assessment on summative assessment The study was carried out from July 2009 to June 2010 over 300 intern doctors of Medicine and Paediatrics department of two government and two private medical colleges. Data were collected through self administered questionnaire. The questionnaire included different opinion about the influence of formative assessment on summative assessment and were rated using the 5 point Likert's scale. This study revealed that feedback from formative assessment to the students is important to supplement and modify teaching by the teachers. Students' fear is for summative assessment is reduced by formative assessment Written test, VIVA/SOE and OSCE/OSPE of formative assessment greatly improves the results of summative assessment Students opined that to improve the formative assessment the number of teachers should be increased, teachers should be trained up, teachers should give more time to the students and optimum feedback should be provided to the students. Frequency of formative assessment should remain as it is. Ever since it was proposed, grey system theory has attracted the attention of scientific researchers and scholars. And it also has been widely used in many fields and solved a large number of practical problems in production, life, and scientific research. With the development and popularization of computer science and network technology, this traditional mathematical model can be applied more simply and efficiently to solve practical problems. Firstly, this paper, to implement steps of grey relational analysis, has made the exclusive analysis and has made the simple introduction to grey relational analysis characteristics. Then, based on grey relational theory and ASP.NET technology, the crop evaluation system is developed. Lastly, by using Excel and the crop evaluation system, the paper carries out a comprehensive evaluation about eight features of Fuji apple, which is from nine different producing areas, respectively. The experiment results show that the crop evaluation system is effective and could greatly improve the work efficiency of the researcher and expand the application scope.

Medical education has gone online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Formative assessment is essential to facilitate the learning process in medical education. However, various challenges arise during online assessment, which include reliability, when done without monitoring and practical concerns like Internet connectivity issues. This study was done to assess the medical students’ perceptions of the reliability, usefulness, and practical challenges of online tests. One hundred first-year undergraduate medical students taking up online classes and tests in the subject of physiology were enrolled in this study. A questionnaire with items regarding practical challenges, reliability, and usefulness of the online tests, in general, and about different types of online assessment methods, in particular, were sent to the students online. Each item was rated on a five-point Likert scale, and the responses were analyzed anonymously. A large percentage of students used mobile phones (81.4%) to undertake online tests. Although most students (73.2%; P < 0.001) felt that online tests helped them substantially in learning the subject, network connectivity issues were considered to be a matter of serious concern (85.5%, P < 0.001). Among the assessment methods used, viva voce by video conferencing was thought to be most reliable (83%, P < 0.001). Multiple-choice question-based assessment when done online was felt to be more practically feasible with faster feedback than classroom assessment. The results of the study suggest that medical students find online formative assessments helpful for their learning, despite their concerns about reliability and practical challenges.

BACKGROUND Most educators affected by the COVID-19 epidemic have had to find the most appropriate teaching approach to deal with this emergency teaching situation, i.e., an approach that can make good use of various teaching resources to achieve high adaptability. According to the characteristics of medical students and the course content of clinical clerkship, we adopted the problem-based learning (PBL) method to redesign the pedagogy of clerkship. At the end of the semester, the feasibility of the PBL teaching model in emergency remote teaching (ERT), which has an impact on students' learning experience and preference, was evaluated. Compared with other countries affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the outbreak time and recovery time in China are both earlier; thus, the evaluation and feedback of ERT can provide the referential evidence to global educators and institutions. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to explore medical students' learning experience in ERT to understand how these positive and negative perceptions influence their learning preferences in different teaching modes and how the PBL model combined digital technology to influence teaching quality. METHODS Among 123 medical students from Jinan University, China, who participated in the questionnaire at the end of the ERT in the clinical clerkship course, 25 volunteered to have a further in-depth interview. We randomly select five veterinary students to participate in the one-on-one in-depth online interview, which was conducted within 30 minutes. After coding of the transcription by the NVivo 12.0 software, the collected qualitative data would undergo a thematic analysis. RESULTS The thematic analysis indicated two main themes. One is that the adoption of PBL is the crucial for overseas medical students to evaluate ERT positively, and is depicted by one sub-theme: positive comment contributions. The other theme is that clinical practice as the core of medical education has a decisive influence on the teaching mode preference of medical students, as depicted by two sub-themes: negative comment contributions; and preference in different teaching methods. CONCLUSIONS Although medical students preferred an offline teaching mode due to practical requirements, they generally gave positive comments on this ERT because of the PBL method pedagogy. This indicated the feasibility of the online PBL teaching method in medical education. Moreover, medical students' preferences in the combination of the online and offline teaching mode revealed a revolutionary new direction of revolution in medical education.

Background The role of emotion is crucial to the learning process, as it is linked to motivation, interest, and attention. Affective states are expressed in the brain and in overall biological activity. Biosignals, like heart rate (HR), electrodermal activity (EDA), and electroencephalography (EEG) are physiological expressions affected by emotional state. Analyzing these biosignal recordings can point to a person’s emotional state. Contemporary medical education has progressed extensively towards diverse learning resources using virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) applications. Objective This paper aims to study the efficacy of wearable biosensors for affect detection in a learning process involving a serious game in the Microsoft HoloLens VR/MR platform. Methods A wearable array of sensors recording HR, EDA, and EEG signals was deployed during 2 educational activities conducted by 11 participants of diverse educational level (undergraduate, postgraduate, and specialist neurosurgeon doctors). The first scenario was a conventional virtual patient case used for establishing the personal biosignal baselines for the participant. The second was a case in a VR/MR environment regarding neuroanatomy. The affective measures that we recorded were EEG (theta/beta ratio and alpha rhythm), HR, and EDA. Results Results were recorded and aggregated across all 3 groups. Average EEG ratios of the virtual patient (VP) versus the MR serious game cases were recorded at 3.49 (SD 0.82) versus 3.23 (SD 0.94) for students, 2.59 (SD 0.96) versus 2.90 (SD 1.78) for neurosurgeons, and 2.33 (SD 0.26) versus 2.56 (SD 0.62) for postgraduate medical students. Average alpha rhythm of the VP versus the MR serious game cases were recorded at 7.77 (SD 1.62) μV versus 8.42 (SD 2.56) μV for students, 7.03 (SD 2.19) μV versus 7.15 (SD 1.86) μV for neurosurgeons, and 11.84 (SD 6.15) μV versus 9.55 (SD 3.12) μV for postgraduate medical students. Average HR of the VP versus the MR serious game cases were recorded at 87 (SD 13) versus 86 (SD 12) bpm for students, 81 (SD 7) versus 83 (SD 7) bpm for neurosurgeons, and 81 (SD 7) versus 77 (SD 6) bpm for postgraduate medical students. Average EDA of the VP versus the MR serious game cases were recorded at 1.198 (SD 1.467) μS versus 4.097 (SD 2.79) μS for students, 1.890 (SD 2.269) μS versus 5.407 (SD 5.391) μS for neurosurgeons, and 0.739 (SD 0.509) μS versus 2.498 (SD 1.72) μS for postgraduate medical students. The variations of these metrics have been correlated with existing theoretical interpretations regarding educationally relevant affective analytics, such as engagement and educational focus. Conclusions These results demonstrate that this novel sensor configuration can lead to credible affective state detection and can be used in platforms like intelligent tutoring systems for providing real-time, evidence-based, affective learning analytics using VR/MR-deployed medical education resources.

AbstractImportanceThe spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has posed great threat to people’s health and several medical schools in the world suspended classes as a precaution against the virus. China has also adopted precautionary measures to keep medical schools running without suspending classes. Thinking ahead after COVID-19 Outbreak is important.ObjectiveTo explore the most suitable teaching and learning pattern in medical school during COVID-19 Outbreak.DesignThis study is a case-control study. We had tried to apply a new blended teaching model based on 5G network that combined team-based learning (TBL) and online interaction to the students before the outbreak and then universities responded to the COVID-19 outbreak by closing campuses and shifting to other forms of distance learning. In other word, the courses started using blended teaching model before COVID-19 outbreak and might last using other forms of distance learning throughout the pandemic. Five Point Likert Scale Questionnaires which contains 20 items were used, and the effect of the two kinds of teaching patterns was compared by evaluating the indicators of core competencies of students including professionalism, attitude towards learning, knowledge and learning skills, teamwork skills, motivation in learning, adaptability and acceptance of the courses and network environment.SettingOur study based on a single center.ParticipantsFifty fourth-year medical students receiving the “5+3” pattern courses regarding internal medicine were enrolled in the study.Exposure(s) (for observational studies)The teaching and learning patter started using blended teaching model before COVID-19 outbreak and might last using other forms of distance learning throughout the pandemic.Main Outcome(s)According to the descriptive statistical analysis of the first part of the questionnaire (question 1-16), the average score of adaptability and acceptance of the courses is 2.60 lower than 3, indicating that students are more adapted to other forms of distance learning during COVID-19 outbreak; the average score of the rest of the questions is higher than 3, indicating that blended teaching model based on 5G network is superior to other forms of distance learning. The number of male students who are inclined to the blended teaching model based on 5G network is 0.13 times as much as that of female students (95%CI:0.028∼0.602, p=0.009).ResultsOnline forms of distance learning were accepted by the students. Female students had higher expectations on the course and were more likely to adapt well to the change during the COVID-19 outbreak. However, all students preferred the blended teaching model based on 5G network that combined team-based learning (TBL) and online interaction before the pandemic.ConclusionIt indicates that medical education based on 5G network that combined team-based learning (TBL) and online interaction is a more suitable option to teach medical students online. In order to achieve long-range assessment of fruit quality, a comprehensive evaluation system for fruit was designed using embedded remote technology. This system was based on platform of ARM+LINUX embedded system. Electronic balance was used to obtain fruit weight, and ZigBee wireless sensor network was designed to collect environment parameters of orchard site. USB camera was controlled up or down and right or left the four directions to obtain extensive video information by rotating base of camera .Then the collected data of real-time were sent to the monitor service center through 3G wireless module. Remote users can browse WEB server of orchard to view real-time picking fruit, weighing scene and related environment information of fruit growth according to their demands. Experiments were made in vineyard. The results showed that the system was able to collect many assessment dates of fruit, and the design requirements could be met in real-time data acquisition and remote transmission. The comprehensive quality of grapes could be evaluated by collected data from the remote browser.
