The paper examines the cases of attacks on schools in Russia, assesses the events that have occurred, and analyzes the activities of school shooters. The symbolism and attributes of Columbine’s followers are given. As part of the study, a content analysis of the Internet information space was carried out, which allowed us to draw certain conclusions on the spread of the radical ideological movement Columbine. Thus, a typical representative of a “Columbine community” is from 14 to 20 years old. Teenagers often pretend to be older in the virtual space and maintain several accounts in the same social network. The formation of a teenager’s personality occurs through the prism of relationships in the reference group. If this self-identification does not occur in the family or school for various reasons, then the minor plunges into the information and network space, where he finds comfort, his interests and views are shared, and he gets support. A teenager gets an impression that he is best understood in death groups, Columbine communities and other destructive associations, and not in the family. The information that these users leave on their personal social network accounts allows us to identify a number of features indicating depression, the presence of pre-suicidal syndrome, aggressive behavior and excessive cruelty. Thus, the following conclusion can be drawn: a typical participant in a Columbine community is an emotionally unstable, driven, complex, secretive, insecure individual. As a rule, there are few or no real photos on the account of a typical Columbine community participant. Sometimes a pseudonym is used instead of the real name: in most cases it is associated with the Columbine cult. In addition, the account of such a teenager contains photo and video content that can be attributed to suicidal themes, excessive cruelty and aggression, and a passion for weapons.

The study of religion and new media explores how the contemporary proliferation of technological devices and digital culture impacts religious traditions. The progressive mediation of religion through websites, social networks, apps, and digital devices has created new conditions for religious experiences, practices, and beliefs. From the diffusion of internet technologies in the mid-1990s, scholars have individuated four waves to describe the evolution of religion and new media: (a) The first wave (mid-1990s–beginning 2000s) is characterized by enthusiasm for the potential of the Internet and the establishment of the first websites dedicated to religion, such as the Vatican official webpage and chatrooms where Neo-Pagans celebrated online rituals. These may be considered examples of “cyber-religion,” a term that indicates religious activities in the virtual space of the Internet, usually called in this period “cyberspace.” (b) The second wave (the mid-late 2000s) involves the growth of religious online presences, and is characterized by more realistic attitudes on the potentials and consequences of internet use. For example, Muslim, Buddhist, and Jewish virtual sacred buildings have been created on the platform Second Life. At the same time, the virtual congregation Church of Fools attracted both positive reactions and criticism. In this period, scholars often talk about “religion online,” which is the online transposition of activities and narratives of religious groups, and “online religion,” a type of religion that exists mainly because of the increased interconnectivity and visual enhancements of the Internet. (c) The third wave (late 2000–mid-2010s) saw the creation of social network platforms and the proliferation of smartphones. Religious leaders such as the Dalai Lama and the Pope established social network accounts, and smartphone developed apps for reading sacred texts, praying, and performing confessions. This type of religion is usually called “digital religion,” a concept that indicates the progressive blurring of the line between online and offline religiosity. (d) The fourth wave (the late 2010s) includes online religious groups circulating narratives beyond religious institutions, and greater academic attention to elements such as gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, politics. This is the case of veiled Muslim influencers who talk about religion in fashion tutorials, and Russian Orthodox women (Matushki) who use blogs to diffuse patriarchal values. The notion of “digital religion” is employed in this period to explore how religious identities, communities, and authorities change in the internet age. Scholars have approached these four waves through the lens of existing media theoretical frameworks, especially mediation, mediatization, and social shaping of technology, and adapted them to the field of religion and new media. While existing scholarship has often focused on Europe and North America, the study of religion and new media is expected to become increasingly global in scope.

In the era of the Internet, information overload is a growing problem which refers to the inability of a person to make a decision because the amount of information that she/he needs to process is huge. To solve this problem, recommender systems were proposed to apply various algorithms to recognize users’ preferences and generate recommendations which are likely match the user’s interest on various items. In this thesis, we aim to improve the effectiveness of the recommendation by incorporating the social data into the traditional recommendation algorithms. Hence, we first propose a new user similarity metric that not only considers tagging activities of users, but also incorporates their social relationships, such as friendships and memberships, in measuring the nearest neighbours. Subsequently, we define a new recommendation method which makes use of both user-to-user similarity and item-to-item similarity. Experimental outcomes on a Last.fm dataset show positive results of our proposed approach.

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of communication on the Russian-speaking segment of the social net Instagram. The aim of the article makes the analysis of diminutives - the words with diminutive-hypocoristic suffixes. In course of the study, over 250 users pages of Instagram were analyzed, and the most high-frequency lexemes were chosen. The derivational analysis was carried out to sort out the groups of relevant suffixes, and such a phenomenon as the synonymy was revealed. As is proved, despite different formal expression, all suffixes of diminutives bear diminutive-hypocoristic (or just hypocoristic) meaning which helps express subjective positive evaluation in respect to the environment, and demonstrate emotions (also positive) in course of communication. As is marked, the use of diminutives on the social net is not an occasional occurrence, its one of the significant exponents of the world view of the Russian-speaking people. The demand of language bearers for the diminutives witnesses of their high linguistic potential allowing the forms to create aesthetical communication over the Internet virtual space.

Over the latter decade a rapid development of information communication technol-ogies has been going on in various directions. Technological possibilities have increased very significantly (Lamanauskas, 2012). The development of internet and technologies related with it has been extremely fast. A lot of internet service providers have appeared in the mar-ket, their number still continues to grow. The internet diaries, social portals, technologies allow-ing live communication on the internet (Internet Relay Chat, IRC), talk programme Windows Live Messenger (MSN), ICQ forums and other have occurred and are spreading. Thus, today a consumer can create his profile on the internet, can make friends, communicate in the inter-est groups and so on. It can be stated, that every human being contributes in his own way to the internet and at the same time to ICT development, in general. It is obvious, that together with technological problems also arise social internet problems. Social networking websites are closely related with economical, psychological, educational, valeological and other aspects. There is a shortage of researches grounding socio-educational social network aspects. Research purpose is to ascertain how Lithuanian university students use social net-working websites, how they value them, what opinion they have about various social net-working websites, what they know about them. The main research questions are: What social networking websites do students know and use most frequently?; What social networking website functions do students use and why?; Do students like social networking websites and why?; What do students know about how social networking websites use published personal and other type of information?; What is students’ attitude to opportunities provided by social networking websites? It has been stated, that the majority of the respondents use the internet a few times a day, besides, more than a half of them visit social networking websites a few times a day as well. Only a small part of the respondents haven‘t created their personal profile in social net-working websites. More than a third of the respondents very favourably value social network-ing websites, they like them. Even those who don‘t like social networking websites, all the same, periodically visit them. It has been asserted, that though the respondents know a lot of social networking websites, the most frequently visited and most popular are three: You Tube, Facebook, Google+. The most important functions are: communication, learning and ex-changing information, texting. It is worrying, that only a small part of the respondents know how social networking websites use published and other type of information. Though SNW is an excellent means of communication, a perfect opportunity for finding out various news, for making friends and so on, students are firmly convinced, that communication in virtual space will never substitute direct people‘s relations. Such their position is valued as positive. On the other hand, it is obvious, that educational social networking potential has rather poor expres-sion in students‘ evaluation and it raises a grounded concern. Key words: social networking websites, survey, university students.

In recent years, the number of forged videos circulating on the Internet has immensely increased. Software and services to create such forgeries have become more and more accessible to the public. In this regard, the risk of malicious use of forged videos has risen. This work proposes an approach based on the Ghost effect knwon from image forensics for detecting forgeries in videos that can replace faces in video sequences or change the mimic of a face. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to identify forgery in high-quality encoded video content.
