A cosmetologia é a ciência que engloba e estuda os cosméticos, desde conceitos iniciais até a sua fabricação, tornando-se uma ciência multidisciplinar. Para garantia de um uso seguro e eficaz dos cosméticos é necessário a realização de análises para se conseguir um padrão de qualidade. Quando há indícios de contaminação por microrganismos no cosmético, diversos problemas podem ser encontrados, como a ocorrência de patologias específicas, causando altos riscos e complicações à saúde do usuário. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar qualitativamente através de análises microbiológicas a qualidade dos produtos cosméticos de maquiagem usados de forma compartilhada, utilizando amostras colhidas aleatoriamente em uma loja de varejo, que foi selecionada por ser de grande circulação, da cidade de Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará. Nesta pesquisa foram analisadas oito amostras coletadas durante o período de outubro e novembro de 2017. As análises que foram realizadas seguiram a Farmacopeia brasileira. Como resultado obteve-se um percentual de 87,5 % de contaminação microbiana, evidenciando a presença de Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus sp. e Pseudomonas aeruginosa, sendo que apenas uma das oito amostras analisadas mostrou-se adequada para uso seguindo os limites de aceitação microbiológicas permitidos por lei. Baseados nesses resultados foi possível concluir que o índice de contaminação das amostras de batons que são utilizadas de modo compartilhado são potencialmente maiores. Com isso, intensifica-se a necessidade de medidas que impeçam o compartilhamento dos produtos cosméticos, com a finalidade de diminuir o risco de uma infecção coletiva.   Palavras-chave: Cosméticos. Uso compartilhado. Contaminação.   Abstract Cosmetology is the science that encompasses and studies cosmetics, from initial concepts to their manufacture, becoming a multidisciplinary science. To guarantee a safe and effective use of cosmetics it is necessary to carry out analyzes to achieve a quality standard. When there is evidence of contamination by microorganisms in the cosmetic, several problems can be found, such as the occurrence of specific pathologies, causing high risks and complications to the health of the user. The objective of this scientific work was to qualitatively investigate through microbiological analysis the quality of cosmetic makeup products used in a shared way, using samples collected randomly in a retail store, which was selected because it is of great circulation, in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará. In this research, eight (8) samples collected during the period of October and November 2017 were analyzed. The analyzes that were carried out followed the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia. As a result, a percentage of 87.5 % of microbial contamination was obtained, showing the presence of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus sp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with only one of the eight samples analyzed being suitable for use following the limits of microbiological acceptance allowed by law. Based on these results it was possible to conclude that the contamination index of the lipstick samples that are used in a shared way are potentially higher. As a result, the need for measures to prevent the sharing of cosmetic products is intensified, in order to reduce the risk of a collective infection.   Keywords: Cosmetics. Shared Use. Nesta pesquisa objetivou-se avaliar a viabilidade técnica da aplicação de ozônio como bactericida e fungicida em amostras de resíduos de serviços de saúde potencialmente infectantes. Foram determinados os     micro-organismos presentes nos resíduos gerados em um hospital particular. Para realização das análises microbiológicas e o tratamento com ozônio o material foi particulado e homogeneizado. As análises microbiológicas foram realizadas antes e após a ozonização.Para os testes de desinfecção foram retirados 10,0g de amostra que foi submetida à ozonização por 5, 10, 15, 20 e 25 minutos com doses de 140,0; 280,0; 420,0; 560,0 e 700,0mg L-1 de ozônio, respectivamente. Verificou-se presença de mesófilos totais, coliformes totais e termotolerantes, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus spp, Candida albicans e Rhizopus spp. O ozônio foi eficiente para eliminação de todos os micro-organismos em 20 minutos; nos primeiros cinco minutos de exposição ao gás verificou-se redução superior a 98%.Palavras-chave: Bactérias patogênicas. Ozonização. USING OZONE GAS FOR DISINFECTION OF SOLID WASTE FROM HEALTH CARE SERVICES ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to evaluate the technical viability of the application of ozone as bactericide and fungicide in samples of potentially infectious health services residues. The microorganisms present in the waste generated in a private hospital were determined. The material was particulated and homogenized to perform the microbiological analysis and to undergo ozone treatment. Microbiological analysis was performed before and after ozonization. For the disinfection tests, 10.0g of sample were removed and submitted to ozonization for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 minutes with 140,0; 280,0; 420,0; 560,0 and 700,0mg doses of L-1 of ozone, respectively. It was verified the presence of total mesophiles, total and thermotolerant coliforms, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus spp, Candida albicans and Rhizopus spp. Ozone was efficient while eliminating all microorganisms in 20 minutes; in the first five minutes of gas exposure, the reduction was greater than 98%.Keywords: Pathogenic bacteria. The aim of the research was to compare the microbiological quality of dairy products derived from organic and conventional farming. The test material consisted of milk and milk products (natural yoghurt, cream, curd cheese, rennet ripening cheese, milk). Investigated products were subjected to microbiological analysis and marked for the number of Enterococcus sp., Staphylococcus aureus, yeast and moulds, Escherichia coli as well as to state the presence of Salmonella sp. in them. All samples were free of Salmonella sp. Escherichia coli occurred in 2 samples of curd cheese from organic production. Products derived from organic and conventional production didn’t differ in the average number of microorganisms depending on the type of dairy product, with the exception of ripening rennet cheese, which showed a significant difference in the amount of Staphylococcus aureus.

Apple vinegar is a natural product widely used in food and traditional medicine as it contains many bioactive compounds. The apple variety and production methods are two factors that play a major role in determining the quality of vinegar. Therefore, this study aims to determine the quality of apple vinegar samples from different varieties (Red Delicious, Gala, Golden Delicious, and Starking Delicious) prepared by three methods using small apple pieces, apple juice, and crushed apple, through determining the physicochemical properties and antibacterial activity of these samples. The antibacterial activity was studied against five pathogenic bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli (ATB: 57), Escherichia coli (ATB: 97), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, using two methods, disk diffusion and microdilution, for determining the minimum inhibitory concentrations and the minimum bactericidal concentrations. The results of this study showed that the lowest pH value was 3.6 for Stark Delicious, obtained by liquid fermentation, and the highest acetic acid values were 4.7 and 4% for the vinegar of Red Delicious and Golden Delicious, prepared by solid fermentation, respectively. The results of the antibacterial activity showed considerable activity of apple vinegar on the tested strains. Generally, the Staphylococcus aureus strain appears less sensitive and Pseudomonas aeruginosa seems to be very sensitive against all samples, while the other strains have distinct sensitivities depending on the variety studied and the method used. A higher antibacterial activity was found in vinegar obtained by the apple pieces method and the Red Delicious variety, with a low MIC and MBC recorded, at 1.95 and 3.90 µL/mL, respectively. This study has shown that the choice of both apple variety and production method is therefore an essential step in determining and aiming for the desired quality of apple vinegar.

Antimicrobial activity of alcoholic extractions from the aboveground organs like bark and buds of Quercus robur L. was studied. The determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was performed with the use of double serial dilution in broth. The following microorganisms were used as test cultures: Bacillus cereus, Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus. It has been revealed that alcoholic extractions of the bark of Quercus robur have the widest spectrum of antibacterial activity in relation to Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. Results of microbiological analysis show that alcoholic extractions from the bark and buds have an antimicrobial effect on all of these strains with a single dilution (except for antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with 70% extractions of bark of Quercus robur). In particular, relatively high antimicrobial activity was observed in alcoholic extracts of all buds concentrations against Candida albicans at a dilution of 2, 4 and 8 times and Escherichia coli at a dilution of 4, 8 and 16 times. The greatest antimicrobial effect against Pseudomonas aeruginosa has extracts from the bark and buds in all the studied concentrations of alcohol. A significant antimicrobial effect against Escherichia coli has 40% of extractions from the buds of Quercus robur when diluted by 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 times. The results can be used as justification for the introduction of a new type of raw material that is buds of Quercus robur, as well as drugs based on it in the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation as antibacterial phytopharmaceuticals.

Aims: The present work is part of a sanitary quality control of market garden products in Korhogo. The objective of this study was to know the microbiological quality of tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) sold on the markets of the city of Korhogo. Place and Duration of Study: The analyses were carried out at the microbiology laboratory of Peleforo Gon Coulibaly University during the months of October, November and December 2020. Methodology: Germs such as molds, yeasts, mesophilic aerobic germs, total coliforms, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Clostridium were tested and enumerated on 40 tomato samples from the markets of Haoussabougou, Koko, Sinistré and the big market according to conventional microbiology methods. Results: The average loads of molds and yeasts range from 1.2x104 to 6x105 CFU/g. The average loads of mesophilic aerobic germs vary from 2.3x104 to 2.3x105 CFU/g. The highest loads recorded for Staphylococcus aureus and total coliforms were 3.1x104 CFU/g and 1.5x104 CFU/g respectively. Escherichia coli (4x101 CFU/g) was isolated only from tomatoes collected in Haoussabougou. As for the Clostridium genus, it was not detected on all the tomatoes analyzed. Conclusion: In general, the microbial loads of the analyzed samples are higher than the accepted norm. Thus, the tomatoes sold on the markets of the city of Korhogo have an unsatisfactory microbiological quality. It is advisable to clean, disinfect and rinse these tomatoes carefully with drinking water before consuming them raw.

Ce travail vise l’étude de l’activité antibactérienne de l’huile essentielle (HE) de Pelargoniumx asperum et de la bactériocine, la nisine seul et en combinaison vis-à-vis de six bactéries dont quatre sont multirésistantes d’origine clinique. L’activité antibactérienne in vitro a été évaluée par la méthode de diffusion sur gélose. La concentration minimale inhibitrice (CMI) est aussi déterminée pour HE. Les résultats ont révélé une activité antibactérienne significative exercée par HE visà-vis de Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 43300), Staphylococcus aureus et Escherichia coli avec des diamètres d’inhibition de 36,00 ; 22,50 et 40,00 mm, respectivement. Cependant, l’HE de Pelargonium asperum a montré une activité antibactérienne supérieure par rapport à la nisine. Les valeurs des CMI rapportées dans cette étude sont comprises entre 1,98–3,96 μl/ml. Les combinaisons réalisées entre HE et la nisine ont montré un effet additif vis-à-vis de Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) avec (50 % HE Pelargonium asperum + 50 % nisine). Par contre, nous avons enregistré une synergie vis-à-vis de Klebsiella pneumoniae avec (75 % HE Pelargonium asperum + 25 % nisine) et contre Pseudomonas aeruginosa avec les trois combinaisons testées. Les résultats obtenus permettent de dire que l’HE de Pelargonium asperum possède une activité antibactérienne ainsi que sa combinaison avec la nisine pourrait représenter une bonne alternative pour la lutte contre l’antibiorésistance.

The present study was carried out to determine, for the first time, the chemical composition and antibacterial activity of essential oils derived from the aerial parts of three aromatic plants Thymus algeriensis Boiss & Reut, Rosmarinus officinalis L., and Salvia officinalis L. growing under semiarid conditions. The essential oils were chemically analyzed and identified by gas chromatography (GC) and GC/ mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and their antimicrobial activity was individually evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using both agar disk diffusion and agar dilution methods. The major constituents of Thymus algeriensis essential oil were identified as camphor (13.62%), 1,8-cineol (6.00%), borneol (5.74%), viridiflorol (4.00%), and linalool (3.93%). For Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil, 48 compounds were characterized, of which the main constituents were camphor (17.09%), Z-β-ocimene (10.88%), isoborneol (9.68%), α-bisabolol (7.89%), and borneol (5.11%). While, Salvia officinalis essential oil was characterized by β-thujone (16.44%), followed by viridiflorol (10.93%), camphor (8.99%), 1,8-cineol (8.11%), trans-caryophyllene (5.85%), and α-humulene (4.69%) as the major components. Notably, results from antibacterial screening indicated that Thymus algeriensis and Salvia officinalis essential oils exhibited a strong inhibitory effect against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus compared to Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil. Further, less activity was recorded against Pseudomonas aeruginosa for the three tested essential oils.

In Germany the application of procedures such as flocculation and filtration in the preparation of drinking water results in the annual production of an estimated 500,000 t of sediments and sludges. Some of these residues have a potential for being reused, for example in agriculture, forestry, brickworks or waste water treatment. To assess the microbiological quality of residues from waterworks methods for the detection of enterobacteria, Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Legionella, poliovirus, Ascaris suis eggs and Cryptosporidium have been evaluated regarding their detection limits and were applied to various residues from German waterworks. Results show that sediments and sludges may contain pathogenic bacteria, viruses and protista. When residues from waterworks are intended to be reused in agriculture or forestry the microbiological quality should therefore be considered.

El objetivo del estudio es determinar la actividad antibacteriana de Metformina frente a Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus y Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Se evaluó la actividad antibacteriana mediante la técnica de Kirby Bauer. Se utilizó cepas de Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) y Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), las cuales se expusieron a Metformina en concentraciones de 250 mg y 500 mg, Ciprofloxacino (CIP) 5 µg, Imipenem (IPM) 10 µg, y Cefoxitin (FOX) 30 µg. Frente a Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus y Pseudomonas aeruginosa se presentó un halo de inhibición de 6 mm. para Metformina 250 mg, 6 mm. para Metformina 500 mg, y un halo de inhibición >25 mm. con el uso de Ciprofloxacino 5 µg, Cefoxitin 30 µg, e Imipenem 10 µg respectivamente. En conclusion, In vitro Metformina a dosis de 250 y 500 mg, no presentó efecto antibacteriano frente a Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus y Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
