(The study of prospective forage production on existing and potential land use to support increasing livestock population in Aceh Besar) ABSTRACT. The purpose of this research was to find out the width and scattered location of existing land use which its land capability class suitable for pastures; forage production prospective, and land carrying capacity. The combination of survey and evaluation method was used in this study. The primary data were obtained by field observation and compiling documents, while the secondary data were obtained from various sources, including Bappeda Aceh, and Dinas Peternakan Aceh Besar. Land capability classification was defined based on a modified USDA method and land capability class mapping was prepared based on overlay method by geoprocessing of Geographic Information Systems. The attributes delineating land capability classification included slope, erosion potential and soil depth. Spatial and attributes data were processed using ArcGIS 9.3. Interpretation of land use map derived from satellite imagery analysis results. Brachiaria humidicola green production (tons/year) was determined by assumption-based on obtaining data from various sources. Present livestock population and increasing of population target up to 2017 were obtained from Dinas Peternakan Aceh Besar. The results showed that the existing land use area was 28,632.23 ha (59.03 %), whereas the potential land use area was 19,875.73 ha (40.97%). Land use area for pastures in the district of Aceh Besar, both existing and potential, were sufficient to support the achievement of livestock population increasing program.

The aims of this research are: 1) to build city environment spatial database using GIS based on Quickbird Satellite Imagery interpretation, secondary data, and field data, 2) to make city green space optimal model based on city environmental spatial database, and 3) to apply the model in form of Yogyakarta City Green Space Optimal Map.Research method mainly consists of four steps, they are: 1) collecting primary data and secondary data, 2) building the database, 3) arrange city green space optimal model, and 4) apply the model. Primary data are Quickbird satellite imagery and field measurement, while the secondary data obtained from the related institutions. Parameters that were used to build city environment database are comfortable level, number and distance from traffic light, number and distance from main road intersection, the distance from main road, air and noise pollution of each land use category, qualitative of inhabitant oxygen necessity of each land use category, actual green space, and potential land for green space. The database consits of spatial data in vector format and attribute data in relational structure. Spatial model was built from three overlay methods in sequencial way : they are rating method, weighted rating method, and join spatial method. The results of the research are: 1) from the imagery can be produced Land Use, Road Network, Green Space, Potential Land for Green Space Maps with interpretation accuracy are 91.1%, 100%, 95.8%, and 94.8% respectively, 2) GIS procedure is able to build city environment spatial database and to perform a model of city green space optimal distribution, 3) The need of green space is 1022.9 ha, actual green space available is 94.87 ha, and potential land for green space in Yogyakarta city  is 111.92 ha, 4) Distribution of the need of green space are along the main roads and its intersections. The areas cover along the roads of : 1) Adisucipto-Urip Sumoharjo– Sudirman–Diponegoro – Kyai Mojo–Godean streets (to city boundary), 2)  Kusumanegara-Sultan Agung-Ahmad Dahlan–Wirobrajan–Martadinata streets (to city boundary), 3) Supeno-Sugiono–Sutoyo–M.T.Haryono–Sugeng Jeroni streets, 4) Magelang,-Herman Yohannes-Sutomo–Suryopranoto-Bausasran–Juminahan–Suryat majan–Gadjah Mada-Mataram–Suryotomo streets, 5) Cokroaminoto–Kapten Tandean–Bugisan (to city boundary), Suprapto–Wahid Hasyim–Bantul streets, and 6) Katamso–Parangtritis streets (to city boundary). Key words : Quickbird Imagery, Geographical Information System, Spatial Modelling, City Green Space Optimal Distribution

Abstrak Petani dalam memanfaatkan lahan pertanian selalu berhadapan dengan ketidakpastian. Di sisi lain petani juga harus mempertimbangkan berbagai jenis komoditi yang akan diusahakan agar tidak gagal panen. Berdasarkan hal tersebut maka penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan: (1) mengindentifikasi jenis ketidakpastian yang sering dihadapi petani  dalam  memanfaatkan lahan pertanian; dan  (2) menganalisis pengaruh ketidakpastian terhadap pertimbangan petani dalam menentukan jenis komoditi yang akan diusahakan. Data yang dikumpulkan terdiri dari data primer dan data sekunder. Data primer diperoleh dari hasil wawancara dengan petani, sedangkan data sekunder dari beberapa instansi terkait. Pengukuran ketidakpastian dilakukan menggunakan metode skala likerts. Analisis data di lakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menemukan adanya keragaman jenis  ketidakpastian yang selalu dihadapi petani dalam pemanfaatan lahan pertanian dan ketidakpastian tersebut  telah dijadikan dasar oleh petani untuk mempertimbangan jenis komoditi yang akan diusahakan.Abstract Farmers in utilizing agricultural land always faced with uncertainty. On the other hand, farmers should also consider various types of commodities which will be endeavored that no crop failure.  Based on the above, the research is conducted with the objectives: (1) to identify the kinds of uncertainties often faced by farmers in utilizing agricultural land for farming activities; (2) to analyzes the influence of uncertainty on the consideration of farmers in determining the type of commodity to be cultivated. The data collected consist of primary data and secondary data. Primary data was obtained from interview with farmer while secondary data from several related institutions. Measurement of uncertainty is done using likerts scale method. Data analysis is done descriptively qualitative. The results of the study found that the diversity of types of uncertainty often faced by farmers in agricultural land use and the uncertainty has been used as a basis by farmers to consider the types of commodities to be cultivated.

The occurrence of landslides can not be separated from conditions that are prone to landslide movements such as steep slopes and high rainfall. The occurrence of landslides is also exacerbated by the indiscipline of the community in using land according to its function, which is called land conversion which can be a trigger factor for landslides. Conducting research on land use change is important to see the impact caused by human activities. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of land conversion on landslide hazard levels in Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo Regency. The method in this research was descriptive quantitative using primary data, namely field surveys and secondary data collection. The steps on this research were conducting field observations about the occurrence of land conversion and then retrieving level of landslide hazard at the observation point of land use change. Data analysis was performed using ordinal logistic regression. The result of the analysis showed that the p value (0.036) <0.05 which meant H0 was rejected. Thus, at the 95% confidence level it could be said that the variable of land use change affected the level of landslide hazard in Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo Regency. Mining has two broad side-effects which may be considered degrading to the environment. The first is the environmental effects of the change on the land-use from forest or cropland to degraded wasteland due to the improper dumping of overburden; and the second, which is partially linked to the first, is the displacement of whole villages comprised of families who have husbanded their crops and animals, and lived symbiotically with the forest for centuries if not millenia. This paper is concerned mainly with the first and only partially with the second as this is the subject of a separate paper. This paper outlines methods of estimation of the quantum of degradation caused by mining taking a long-term perspective of the last 50 (to 100) years and the next 50 years. The types of mines listed include a very wide variety including coal mines, bauxite mines, iron-ore mines, manganese, zinc, chromite, asbestos, granite, sandstone, copper, silver, gold and one uranium mine. Oil drilling maybe considered another form of mining or extracting fossil fuels. All these forms of extracting metals, non-metals, rocks, carbons, and hydro-carbons are included under the broad purview of'mining’. Secondary data will need to be obtained from various governmental departments on the numbers of mines which have been opened both before Independence and after in order to establish parameters. In addition data on families displaced, land acquired, land-use before and after will also be obtained. After making meaningful categories primary data on a parsimonious sample of each category and each type of mining (extraction) will be carried out to use as estimators of the parameters. The case study of the Piparar coal mine illustrates the difficulties and the inaccuracies that may be encountered when using average estimators. Notwithstanding these difficulties, on account of the fact that mining has been the cause for a great deal of the environmental degradation in India, it is important that fresh estimates should be made.

[ID] Daerah Rawa Pinang Dalam merupakan bagian dari daerah rawa di kawasan Pinang Komplek yang berada di Kabupaten Kubu Raya Provinsi Kalimantan Barat. Tinggi muka air tanah Daerah Rawa Pinang Dalam dipengaruhi oleh pasang surut air laut. Daerah Pinang Dalam diusahakan oleh penduduk sebagai lahan pertanian. Namun hasil produksi pada daerah ini belum optimal yang disebabkan oleh belum baiknya jaringan tata air, dimana sebagian besar daerah tersebut merupakan daerah genangan, sering mengalami banjir pada musim penghujan serta mengalami kekeringan pada musim kemarau. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis dan pengaruh hidrotopografi lahan terhadap saluran tersier, sehingga dapat diperoleh dimensi saluran tersier sesuai dengan peruntukan lahan di daerah rawa Pinang Dalam. Data primer pada penelitian ini yaitu data hidrometri dan data pasang surut, sementara data sekunder yang digunakan yaitu data hidrologi dan data topografi serta peta-peta yang diperlukan dalam analisis hidrotopografi. Data tersebut merupakan dasar dalam melakukan kajian dan analisis hidrometri dan topografi yang diperlukan untuk mengetahui hidrotopografi lahan dengan memperhatikan peruntukan lahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis hidrotopografi lahan di daerah rawa Pinang Dalam terdiri dari jenis hidrotopografi B, C dan D. Berdasarkan jenis hidotopografi dan peruntukan lahan, terdapat kriteria tertentu mengenai kedalaman optimum untuk saluran tersier dalam sebuah jaringan tata air. Saluran tersier yang diperuntukkan sebagai lahan perkebunan sebaiknya diupayakan untuk memiliki kedalaman yang dapat mempertahankan muka air tanah dalam kisaran 60 hingga 90 centimeter, sementara elevasi muka air untuk tanaman padi sawah dipertahankan setinggi mungkin dengan kedalaman perakaran minus (-)10 sampai dengan -30 centimeter. [EN] The Pinang Dalam swamp area is a part of Pinang Komplek swamp area which is located in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan Province. Groundwater table in Pinang Dalam swamp area is affected by tides. Pinang Dalam area is cultivated by the population as agricultural land. But the production results in this area are not optimal due to the lack of a good water system, where most of the area is inundated, often experiences floods during the rainy season and experiences drought in the dry season. This research aims to identify the type and effects of land hydrotopography on the tertiary channel, thus the dimension of tertiary channel that is suitable for the allocated land use is obtained. The primary data in this study are hydrometric and tidal data, while secondary data used are hydrological and topographic data and maps needed in hydrotopographic analysis. These data are the basis for conducting studies and analysis of hydrometry and topography needed to the hydrotopography of land while taking the land use into account. The results showed that the hydrotopographic type of land in the Pinang Dalam swamp area consisted of hydrotopographic types B, C and D. Based on the hydotopography type and land use, there are certain criteria regarding the optimum depth for tertiary channels in a water system. Tertiary canals on land allocated as plantation area should be striven to have a depth that can maintain water table in the range of 60 to 90 centimeters, while the water level elevation for lowland rice plants should be maintained as high as possible with a rooting depth of minus (-) 10 to -30 centimeters.

The majority of soybean supply is fulfilled by importation and the import of soybean tends to increase. The dependency of Indonesia on imported soybean indeed becomes a serious issue in maintaining food security and local production of soybean is low and quite decreasing. The low domestic soybean production might be caused by the inappropriate used of inputs. Many cases found in the field are the inefficient uses of input factors. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors influencing the soybean production and to analyze the optimal level of input use in soybean production. The study was conducted in the Sukahurip Village, Pangatikan Sub-District, Garut District, West Java in July 2018. The research method used was a survey method. The data used consisted of primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained from samples of soybean farmers and samples of farmers were taken by a simple random sampling. The data were analyzed by Cobb Douglass`s Production function (to analyze factors affecting soybean production) and the NPM that was equal to BKM formula was used to determine the optimal level of inputs use. Factors influencing soybean production are land and seeds. Land use, seeds, and ZA fertilizer have not been used efficiently because of the limited land use and the use of substandard inputs. The addition of inputs to the optimal level is 1.36 hectares of land use and 52.7 kg of seeds that will maximize the profits. Keywords: efficiency, input, optimal, production, soybean

Forest people land use pratices with economic and ecological orientation have been developed in the vicinity of forest areas. Nevertheless, policy makers view this development as detrimental to the forest it self. Forestry programs directed to accommodate public participation are uniformly designed and implemented, ignoring the physical and social variantion of rural areas. Thus there is a need for research on spatial variation of the social forestry program especially related to its success and impact on welfare. The research is carried out in Yogyakarta speial province employed a survei method and spatial approach. Stratified cluster sampling is used on the basis of variations in physiographic characteristics. Secondary data are also collected in forms of literatures and previous research in the field. Primary data are obtained through a structured interview using a set of questionnaires. Data are analyzed using simple tabulation method as well as statistical techniques.The research shows that in general people forest land use has been sucessfully implemented in the province. It is important to note that a more successfull implementation of people forest land use is found in the private rather than government initiated forest. In the less accessible areas people forest land use activities are much more successfull than in the accessible ones. Social forestry land use in the volcanic slope physiography is much better than that in either undulating or karst areas. Among important factors affecting the success of people forest land use are land ownership, education level, technology, land accessibility and percentage of plant growth. It is also confirmed that accessibility is the most important factor affecting the success of an people forest land use. The research also reveals that people forest land use has been very important in improving the farmers welfare. A composite indicator shows that the welfare of farmers is much improved after the adoption of people forest land use, with the highest achievement is obtained by farmers in the volcanic slopes.

This study examined agricultural land use conflicts and right to farm in an urbanizing environment. It also examined the implication of urbanization on farming activities. Three sub-urban communities currently undergoing urbanization were selected for the study. Primary and secondary data were collected. Primary data were obtained through the use of questionnaires and interviews. A total of 150 questionnaires were distributed out of which 139 were retrieved and analysed. This represents 92.67% of the total questionnaires distributed. Data collected were analysed using simple frequency distribution table and graphs. The results revealed that land use is gradually shifting from agriculture to residential land use, forcing the farmers to face increase in land value due to high demand for land, difficulty in accessing land for agriculture and land speculation.

The Deli Serdang Regency produces amongst the highest amounts of rice in the province of North Sumatera in Indonesia. Due to land use change and stagnant productivity, the total rice land area and its production have gradually decreased over the years. Hence, understanding this issue is crucial, especially to ensure the sustainability of rice production in the future. The objectives of this study were to identify the trends in land use change (especially regarding rice land) and to investigate the factors affecting rice land change. We classified the satellite images acquired for the years 1989, 1994, 2003, 2009, and 2018 to determine the total area of various land uses. The factors driving rice land change were analyzed using biophysical and socio-economic factors identified from the collected primary and secondary data. The primary data were derived from field surveys, soil analysis, and household surveys, and the secondary data were derived from the Statistical Institution of the Deli Serdang Regency. Correlation analysis, principle component analysis, binary logistic regression, normalization, and weighted index were used to investigate the factors driving rice land change. The results show that forest and rice land have continuously decreased, while plantations and urban areas have continuously increased over this period. We found that the majority of rice land has been converted to plantation expansion and urban development, especially from 2009 to 2018. The factors most affecting rice land change were the distance of rice land to the district capital, the distance of rice land to the provincial capital, population density, slope, and the distance of farmers’ rice land to a road. A suitability map for rice land was generated. All the outputs could help with making appropriate strategic decisions to achieve sustainable land use management, especially for rice land.

An attempt has been taken to identify the major causes of traffic congestion along with existing system deficiencies, their consequences, and finally a policy options are recommended on Chittagong Metropolitan City. For the study primary data were collected through questionnaire survey and secondary data were used from various sources. The collected data were analyzed by using statistical techniques. It was found that rapid growth of population, inefficient land use pattern, indiscriminate roadside uses, past urban development trends and inadequate land use planning are responsible for traffic congestion in the city area. Lack of coordination and integration of concerned institutions is one of the major system deficiencies of traffic congestion situation in the study area.
