Given that Luigi Pirandello's 1930 Come tu mi vuoi (As You Desire Me) is about a woman's attempt to determine her identity, one would think that the play would be praised by feminists. In fact, some critics argue that it simply reinforces traditional gender norms. This essay offers a different feminist interpretation of the play, one that foregrounds the question of female agency, L'Ignota is the only character who may know the truth of her identity. That she withholds this truth from both the other characters and the audience is evidence of the play's feminism. The character retains the right to her self, placing both the other characters and the audience in the position of “lack” and not the plenitude associated with male authority and subjectivity. The unmasking of that plenitude as illusory is for some theorists at least a feminist gesture par excellence. By the conclusion of “As You Desire Me,” both characters and audience are confronted with a woman who refuses the usual rules of the game. The essay concludes by examining an earlier work of Pirandello's that also takes up the question of the identity of a woman. This suggests that perhaps a feminist re-evaluation of Pirandello's work is in order.

This text is an attempt to analyze selected elements of the incoherent narration in the first contemporary vampire movie from Sweden. Frostbite (directed by Anders Banke, 2006) is an image that reinterprets classical horror figures in various ways. The authors of the script use visual patterns from films and horror novels, intriguingly linking them with social criticism and a feminist perspective. The incoherent models of the narration may also be found in such strategies as mixing serious topics with comedy and dyschronic presentation of elements related to the plot’s time. By using these types of strategies the Swedish horror can be read as an attempt to create a hauntological reflection on the liminal status of vampires in postmodern fiction or even more general meditation on the spectral status of modern audiovisual media.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate how perceptions of team performance and teamwork processes relate to functional diversity appropriateness perceptions (FDAP), that is, whether one believes that the right functions are represented in a team. Thereby, the authors distinguish between perceptions of team managers and team members. Design/methodology/approach – The study involved a cross-sectional survey study among 48 sourcing teams from 12 multinational companies, all from different industries. Findings – Members’ and managers’ congruent perceptions of performance showed differential relationships with their perceptions of the team’s functional diversity appropriateness. For managers, perceptions of team performance and functional diversity appropriateness were directly and positively related. For team members, this relationship was moderated by teamwork behavior. Moreover, unlike team members, purchasing managers did not consider functionally diverse teams to be more suitable for executing sourcing tasks. Research limitations/implications – This study identified teamwork behavior as a critical element for explaining the differences in FDAP of members and managers of sourcing teams. Practical implications – Rather than homogenizing team structures, managers should stimulate good teamwork behavior that allows for an the integration of interests and insights from different functional areas. Originality/value – This study adds to functional diversity literature as well as perceptual distance literature by revealing how different team effectiveness criteria shape managers’ and members’ perceptions of functional diversity appropriateness.

Abstract

This monograph brings together twenty-seven contributions that provide a plural and diverse view of audiovisual narratives. This gaze runs through the different audiovisual media starting with the cinema, a fundamental vehicle for gender socialization, television, VOD platforms and social networks. We have focused especially on the investigations that make visible the (under) representation of women in this field and the works spotlight on the analysis of the audiovisual narrative that contribute to making a balance and diagnosis of the current situation from the perspective of the “female agency”. The Open Tribune has fifteen contributions to the fields of knowledge of communication, digital culture and gender studies. Finally, the Reviews section presents five manuscripts of literary works.
