This study aims to discuss the development of feminist interpretation in Indonesia through the existence of Husein Muhammad's thoughts. This research method is qualitative through literature study with the theory of the scientific revolution initiated by Thomas Kuhn through an interpretation approach. The results and discussion of this research include a discussion of Thomas Kuhn's paradigm transition, the dynamics of feminist interpretation in Indonesia, the discourse of feminist interpretation in Indonesia according to Thomas Kuhn's paradigm transition theory, and Husein Muhammad's feminist interpretation. This study concludes that Thomas Kuhn's paradigm shift is used in interpreting feminist topics in Indonesia, which have undergone a paradigmatic transition at various levels. Tafsir Al-Qur'an Indonesia has undergone a paradigmatic transition in the classical, modern, and contemporary era. One of the commentators whose work was mapped out this time was Husein Muhammad who was in the neo-modern or contemporary era. This research is expected to have significant benefits for fans of the study of the Al-Qur'an and gender. This research only raises issues related to one feminist commentator. Then, this study recommends that in the future a more up-to-date understanding of the role of feminist commentators can be generated through a comprehensive study of western thoughts that refers to the literature on the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an in particular.

Patriarchal capitalism shows the dominance of men in the various life sector. Feminism, as a style, demands gender equality. This research aims to understand body autonomy in a short story "Wanita Muda di Sebuah Hotel Mewah" with Sara Mills' feminist perspective. This descriptive qualitative method took the data from the short story written by Hamsad Rangkuti in 2016, published by Senja. This research observed the subjects, objects, and readers via reading and note techniques. The results showed that the sixteen-year-old woman became the object. The woman did not have any autonomy over her body. The other problem was the economic problems that made her sold his virginity. The self-trafficking process of the hotel officer made the officer the subject. The third matter, the beauty of the body and the virginity, was the co-modification that had price value. The fourth, the woman could not control her body. The feminist interpretation, based on Sara Mills, in the short story, showed that the woman became the object, the guess, and the hotel officer as the subject. The position woman also had the reader's position, the hotel officer, and the hotel guest.

This research article focuses on selected Old Testament (OT) texts that deal with the theme of violence and disempowerment. The selected texts are studied and viewed from a feminist interpretation perspective, and laid bare the violent and mistreatment of women in these texts. This research study builds on the work of Phyllis Trible (1978), and she uses the term ‘texts of terror’ to refer to passages where women suffer especially at the hands of men. She believes that passages, such as Deuteronomy 22:5, are regrettable and should be a cause of repentance in order to avoid them being repeated again. The way this article deals with the aforementioned exemplary books or texts in the OT is to explore a gendered feminist lens to understand the theme of disempowerment or violence against women. This approach, with the data, lays bare to the reader the nature of the problem of disempowerment and violence against women.Contribution: This article brings a feminist understanding of the OT Bible (including its social-historical context) in order to gain a clearer insight into the problematic narratives of the disempowerment of and violence against women in a patriarchal society.

AbstractStakeholder theory has largely been anthropocentric in its focus on human actors and interests, failing to recognise the impact of nonhumans in business and organisations. This leads to an incomplete understanding of organisational contexts that include key relationships with nonhuman animals. In addition, the limited scholarly attention paid to nonhumans as stakeholders has mostly been conceptual to date. Therefore, we develop a stakeholder theory with animals illustrated through two ethnographic case studies: an animal shelter and Nordic husky businesses. We focus our feminist reading of Driscoll and Starik’s (J Bus Ethics 49:55–73, 2004) stakeholder attributes for nonhumans and extend this to include affective salience built on embodied affectivity and knowledge, memories, action and care. Findings reveal that nonhuman animals are important actors in practice, affecting organisational operations through human–animal care relationships. In addition to confirming animals are stakeholders, we further contribute to stakeholder theory by offering ways to better listen to nontraditional actors.

Religion can be supportive or discriminative toward women depending on how we interpret religion. When religion is interpreted from patriarchal lenses, it tends to be discriminative toward women, such as in the case of women leadership. This paper will challenge the existing mainstream patriarchal interpretation of the Qur’an on women leadership by offering new feminist interpretation of the Qur’an which is friendly to women and suggesting affirmative policy to increase the number of women leaders in State Islamic Higher Education (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri/PTKIN). This paper uses feminist methodology by using interview and literature studies as methods of data collection. This study shows that leadership in PTKIN is still dominated by men due to the strong patriarchal culture. There are only seven female rectors out of 58 PTKIN in Indonesia. Based on this finding, the new interpretation of the Qur’an which is friendly to women needs to be promoted and the existing gender-neutral policy on the selection of rector in PTKIN needs to be revised into affirmative policy to allow more rooms for women’s leadership to achieve Planet 50-50 by 2030.

Crumb spent four years illustrating the book of Genesis and this chapter explores the ways Crumb attempts to faithfully reproduce the text of Genesis while at the same time including strongly subversive interpretations. As he declared: “I did not adapt it reverently. I respected the text insofar as I did not want to ridicule it. But I see the text as actually a quite primitive document.” The chapter shows how Crumb struggled with how to portray God, as well as Adam and Eve, trying out a variety of possibilities. Crumb rejects patriarchy and he depicts female characters in the Bible such as Rachel as strong, independent and capable women. The common understanding of Crumb as a misogynist is contradicted by the ways he emphasizes a feminist interpretation of the Bible. The chapter also shows how Crumb was influenced by Assyrian art in his depiction of scenes of warfare. Here again, Crumb implicitly critiques the celebration of war in the Bible and the celebration of aggressive masculinity. The chapter also explores the theme of the spiritual double which occurs in the scene depicting Jacob wrestling with the angel and the “dark night of the soul” as well as in Crumb’s illustrations to the medieval text Piers Plowman.

The current predicament, marked by an unprecedented environmental crisis and novel debates on the anthropic-technological transformation of the earth-system, calls for a reassessment of the historical-epistemological question of the entanglement between power, knowledge, and nature. Francis Bacon is the classical reference point for this thematic cluster – a focal point for both historical reconstructions and epistemological reflections, for both those who extol the merits of scientific progress and those who criticize the risks posed by its abuse. I begin this essay by considering Merchant’s eco-feminist interpretation of Bacon. Additionally, I briefly recount how Bacon is envisaged as a symbol of science as domination within the critique of capitalism provided in another classic, Adorno and Horkheimer’s Dialectic of Enlightenment. I also consider the flipside of the reception of Bacon in assessments of our modern scientific world, namely the empowerment-and-emancipation discourse on technology, typical of much of Marxism. In this respect, I deem it expedient to mention the knowledge-power problem in relation to the Anthropocene debate, and in particular in relation to the theme of the transformation of the world in praxeological terms. These considerations, which deal with various assessments of techno-scientific capitalist modernity, are at the basis of my final remarks on the most urgent Anthropocene dilemma, namely, whether we need more or less technoscience. This concerns the historico-political question of whether the ecological limits of growth are an intrinsic limit of capitalism.

This paper attempts to analyze the eco-feminist consciousness embodied in Howards End from three aspects: women’s intimacy with nature, women’s and nature’s plight in the patriarchal society and the construction of harmonious relationships between women and men, man and nature. It is evident to find that Forster has a deep concern about the conditions of women and nature in the patriarchal society and expressed his view on mutual understanding and respect in order to get of the domination of men on women and nature in Howards End.
