This text is an attempt to analyze selected elements of the incoherent narration in the first contemporary vampire movie from Sweden. Frostbite (directed by Anders Banke, 2006) is an image that reinterprets classical horror figures in various ways. The authors of the script use visual patterns from films and horror novels, intriguingly linking them with social criticism and a feminist perspective. The incoherent models of the narration may also be found in such strategies as mixing serious topics with comedy and dyschronic presentation of elements related to the plot’s time. By using these types of strategies the Swedish horror can be read as an attempt to create a hauntological reflection on the liminal status of vampires in postmodern fiction or even more general meditation on the spectral status of modern audiovisual media.

This chapter continues the discussion of early English social criticism with a consideration of two uprisings of the early modern period: Kett’s Rebellion (1549) and the Midland Rising (1607). These uprisings were formidable instances of organised resistance to enclosure and related changes, and the texts which have come down to us concerning them connect that resistance to a belief in the original equality of all human beings, the common humanity of rich and poor, and the fundamental right of everyone to live (including the right to buy essential provisions at a fair and affordable price).

This article defends the principle of non-establishment against 21st-century projects of political religion, constitutional theocracy and political theology. It is divided into two parts, which will appear in two consecutive issues of Philosophy & Social Criticism, 39(4–5) and 39(6). Part 1 proceeds by constructing an ideal type of political secularism, and then discussing the innovative American model of constitutional dualism regarding religion that combined constitutional protection for the freedom of religious conscience and exercise with the principle of non-establishment. The article analyses the strengths and limits of the ‘separation– accommodation’ frame that became hegemonic in 1st amendment jurisprudence from the 1940s to the 1990s. It challenges the standard caricature of the American model as strictly separationist and privatizing. It then critically assesses two contemporary alternatives to that frame: the integrationist approach and the equal liberty approach. The first, disguised as a concern for pluralism and fairness, challenges ‘separation’ and political secularism in a subtle attack on the non-establishment principle, aimed at drastically narrowing its scope. Successes of this approach in recent Supreme Court jurisprudence and politics have triggered a response by liberal egalitarians. The author addresses this response – the equal liberty model – in part 2, which will appear in Philosophy & Social Criticism 39(6), arguing that although on the right track, it fails to find a middle ground between political secularism and integration.

The main goal of this paper is to offer a reading of Reinhart Koselleck’s work as an ally of critical theory. My contention is that, despite customary accusations of Koselleck being an anti-Enlightenment historian detrimental to social criticism and emancipatory politics, his investigations on the semantic fabric of modern society may actually expand our resources for the critique of domination. In order to make this argument plausible, I reconstruct some antinomies that are at the basis of Koselleck’s work (state/society, language/reality, experience/expectation) and discuss their critical potential. This analysis shows that, rather than a rejection of the spirit of critique, Koselleck contributes to the temporalization of the practice of critique as such: namely, a clarification of the contradictions and potentials of a reflexive practice imbued in the struggle between the need to comprehend the world as it is and the right to experiment with other forms of life.

Para este fin se realizará una revisión teórica desde los estudios del cuerpo y los estudios feministas sobre la agencia corporal femenina, la diversidad funcional, lo monstruoso femenino y las representaciones corporales en los medios audiovisuales. Así, se abordarán conceptos y figuras de teóricas como De Lauretis, Mulvey, Creed, Garland-Thomson y Blackman ente otras/os, con el objetivo de analizar y problematizar los motivos presentes en el filme, desde las nociones de la subversión de los estereotipos femeninos y la reivindicación crítica de la abyección.</p><p align="left"><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This article aims to explore the implications of female agency drawn in the 2016 horror film <em>Hush</em>, directed by Mike Flanagan and co-written with Kate Siegel, the film's protagonist. For this purpose, a theoretical review will be carried out from body studies and feminist studies on female bodily agency, functional diversity, the monstrous feminine and body representations in audiovisual media. Thus, concepts and figures of theorists such as De Lauretis, Mulvey, Creed, Garland-Thomson and Blackman, among others, will be addressed in order to analyze and problematize the motifs present in the film, from the notions of the subversion of female stereotypes and the critical vindication of abjection.</p>

After sitting quietly within an acoustic chamber, 30 university men were exposed (singly) to binaural, complex stimulation (Hemi-Sync Tape), synchronized binaural and visual patterns (The Mind's Eye), or transtemporal magnetic fields for 30 min. Experiences were rated at the end of the treatment by questionnaire. The men who received the binaural stimulation (Hemi-Sync Tape) reported more intense sensed presences and ego-alien intrusions than did the other two groups. In a similar second experiment, 18 university women who received the binaural stimulation also reported these experiences. The results support the hypothesis that the sensed presence is facilitated by transient, neuroelectrical intercalation of the temporoparietal lobes and is associated with the intrusion into awareness of the right-hemispheric equivalent of the left-hemispheric sense of self.

Various adolescent health problems in Indonesia are so complex, not only related to physical but also related to psychosocial aspects. When teenagers have to struggle to recognize the sides of themselves that are experiencing physical-psychic and social changes due to puberty, society instead tries to hide everything about sex and leave teenagers with question marks in their minds. The view that sex is taboo, makes teenagers reluctant to discuss reproductive health with others. The lack of accurate and correct information about reproductive health makes teenagers seek access and explore themselves. Health education for adolescents needs to be provided with the right methods and media. Audiovisual media is a learning tool or media that uses video or mobile display, this media is a modern learning among the community and effective for teenagers so that they can absorb the material provided to the maximum.This study aims to determine the influence of audiovisual media on increasing adolescent knowledge about reproductive health. This research is a quantitative study with quasi-experimental design one group without control, with a sample of 50 respondents. Respondents measured the rate ofyears before and after intervention, namely health education using audiovisual media.The results of the study: dependent t-test dependent statistical test on post-test knowledge about reproductive health increased by 6.46 to 8.06 with p value of 0.000 indicating the influence of audiovisual media provision on improving adolescent reproductive health knowledge.

Men and women are created equal, and they are perfected by His creator by being given the rights inherent in him, the right to life, freedom, and the achievement of happiness. Therefore, the writer in this paper wants to look at figures who have a feminist perspective in the Twilight novel by Stephenie Meyer. Women with all the dynamics that oppose the material and source of inspiration that will never end. Woman is a figure that has two very opposite sides. On one side of a woman is a very charming beauty. However, on the other hand, women are often considered weak. In this connection, the problem that will be discussed in this paper is how to describe the perspective of the feminism of the characters in the novel by Stephenie Meyer. This paper is examined using descriptive-textual method and sociology literature approach.AbstrakLaki-laki maupun perempuan diciptakan sederajat, dan mereka disempurnakan oleh pencipta-Nya dengan diberi hak-hak yang melekat dalam dirinya, hak untuk hidup, kebebasan, dan pencapaian kebahagiaan. Oleh karena itu, penulis dalam makalah kali ini ingin menilik tokoh-tokoh yang berperspektif feminisme dalam novel Twilight karya Stephenie Meyer. Wanita dengan segala dinamika yang ada padanya seolah menjadi bahan dan sumber inspirasi yang tidak akan pernah ada habisnya. Wanita adalah sosok yang mempunyai dua sisi yang sangat berlawanan. Di satu sisi wanita adalah keindahan yang begitu sangat memesona,. Namun, di sisi yang lain, wanita sering dianggap lemah. Berdasarkan itulah, masalah yang akan dibahas dalam makalah ini adalah bagaimanakah gambaran perspektif feminisme tokoh-tokoh dalam novel karya Stephenie Meyer. Makalah ini dikaji menggunakan metode deskriptif-tekstual dan pendekatan sosiologi sastra.

The present study aims to offer a review of measures taken by the Romanian authorities in the field of audiovisual media regulation during the state of emergency instituted in March 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak. The legal framework has been adjusted, drawing both from extant norms, such as the 2003 Constitution of Romania, and from newly adapted legal norms such as the Presidential Decree declaring the state of emergency. Also, the competent authorities have been invested with additional powers, this being the case of the National Audiovisual Council and the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications. These institutions have faced multiple challenges regarding the clash between freedom of opinion and freedom of speech and the right to correct information of the public and the campaigns to counter misinformation.

Controlling natality—the ratio of births to the general population—is one of the best means a state has to control its demographic composition. However, the fact that the state has certain interests with regard to the size and composition of its population does not necessarily give it the right to set and pursue natality policies, because such policies can potentially infringe on various human rights such as the rights of women and the rights of minorities. Using a feminist perspective I first argue that even if it is illegitimate for states to try to influence people's choice as to the number of their children in order to achieve demographic change, the state may, and should, enact natality policies aimed at promoting women's right to equality, regardless of whether their end result is to achieve a demographic change. Next I examine whether states are allowed to pursue natality policies aimed at decreasing natality rates in specific cultural groups, whose cultural precepts are oppressive toward women and dictate very high natality rates. Using the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Israel as a test case, I present and reject three objections to the state’s right to pursue such natality policies: the objection from free choice, the objection from free association, and the objection from culture. Rejecting these objections I conclude that not only is the state allowed, but it is indeed obligated, to pursue natality policies that aim to alleviate the oppression of women by decreasing inordinately high birth rates in illiberal communities. However, when choosing the measures for the implementation of such policies the state must take care to choose only measures that respect human rights.
