Purpose. To analyze the efficacy of the lower eyelid eversions surgical treatment.Patients and Methods. We have analyzed the outcomes of treating patients with severe lower eyelid eversion during 2013–2019 — 153 patients, 156 operations. The patients were divided into 4 groups: atonic and paralytic eversion (109 eyes), traumatic tearing of the lower eyelid (8 eyes), cicatricial ectropion (28 eyes) and mechanical ectropion (in tumors) of the lower eyelid (11 eyes). The following surgeries were performed: duplicature surgery by Willer; by Kuhnt-Szymanowski; resection of the framework structure of the lower eyelid with fixation to the eyelid ligaments; implantation of various materials based on the orbital margin; sling to the eyelid ligaments; free skin plasty; local flaps; excision of tumors with one-stage reconstructive plastics.Results. Postoperatively the improvement was observed in all cases. The lower eyelid eversion was eliminated. There were no any complications. The efficacy criteria was the level of the eyelid margin height with regards to limbus, absence or reduction of lagophthalmus. “Good” result — symmetrical width of the eyelid fissure, absence of lagophthalmus was achieved in 100 % of cases in groups IA and II, in 28.12 % — in group IB, in 71.43 % — in group III, in 63.63 % — in group IV. “Satisfactory” result — the difference in the eyelid fissure width was 1.0–2.0 mm, absence or reduction of lagophthalmus was achieved in 65.62 % of cases in group IB, in 21.43 % — in group III, in 27.28 % — in group IV. “Unsatisfactory” result — the difference in the eyelid fissure width was more than 2.0 mm, the presence of lagophthalmus was achieved in 6.25 % of cases in group IB, in 7.14 % — in group III, in 3.33 % — in group IV.Conclusions. When operating the lower eyelid eversion it is possible to achieve good result. The pathogenically based combined methods of surgical treatment are the most effective. In case of traumatic tearing of the lower eyelid, we need to restore the lacrimal duct. In cicatricial ectropion it is possible to achieve engraftment of the skin graft, elimination of eversion and lagophthalmus. In mechanical eversion (due to eyelid tumors) it is necessary to perform radioexcision of the neoplasm with a single-stage reconstructive plastic surgery of the eyelid.

Prior research reveal that low-viscosity resin is able to significantly penetrate initial caries lesions, which leads to their stabilization. The objective of the present report is to assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded with different adhesives to demineralized enamel treated with a low-viscosity resin infiltrant. It also aims to compare the achieved bond strengths to those achieved in relation to sound enamel (SE). A total of 48 newly extracted third molars were collected, distributed in four groups (n=12), covered with a nail varnish, with 4 x 4 mm of uncoated area, immersed in Buskes demineralizing solution (14 days, 37 °C) or remained untreated. Group I: SE + Transbond XT; Group II: demineralized enamel (DE) + ICON + Transbond XT; Group III: DE + ICON + Scotchbond Universal; Group IV: DE + ICON + Assure PLUS. SBS was quantified in megapascals (MPa) and statistically analyzed (ANOVA, p ≤ 0.05). The mode of failure was assessed microscopically (10 x magnification). The highest SBS detected was in Group IV, and the difference was statistically significant (F = 14.37; p = 0.000). Treatment with a resin infiltrant on DE does not impair the shear bond strength when compared to SE, although it does produce a significantly higher strength when combined with Assure PLUS.

Male reproductive ability ability has a linear correlation with libido and testosterone. Both are associated with various things main food consumption such as protein, vitamins and minerals. Aphrodisiac  is an ingredient or drug that arouses sexual arousal or libido. Pumpkin is an example of food from plants with the highest content of zinc. This study was to determine whether there is a difference between the content of zinc on the peel, flesh and pumpkin seeds against sexual activity of mice. The experimental animals used were 24 male, group I mice as control group, Group II was grouped with pumpkin peel extract, Group III was grouped with extract of pumpkin flesh, Group IV was grouped with extract of pumpkin seeds. The dose used is 2gr / kg BB and volume of 0.2 ml is given for 35 days. Sexual Activity is observed every day  by the position of male mice riding females. Based on Anova One Way test results showed there are differences in sexual activity  mice males in each group (ρ 0.000). The difference of the result of the number of mounts indicated that the giving of yellow pumpkin extract had an effect on the increase of mating behavior of male mice. The group treated with the extract of pumpkin flesh showed the highest number of mice mounts (mean = 24,1667.Further research is needed to get a clearer picture of the composition of the pumpkin nutrients that indirectly affect fertility in men.

1. To see how muscle group III and IV receptors are affected by a myositis, the background activity and mechanical excitability of slowly conducting afferent units from normal and inflamed muscles were studied in chloralose-anesthetized cats. The inflammation was induced by infiltrating the gastrocnemius-soleus muscle with a suspension of 2% carrageenan. According to their responsiveness to local pressure stimulation the receptors were classified as touch units, moderate pressure units, and noxious pressure (probably nociceptive) units. The impulse activity in single afferent units was recorded up to 14 h after induction of the inflammation. 2. In inflamed muscle both group III and group IV receptors showed an increase in the proportion of units having a background activity and in the mean background activity. The differences reached statistically significant levels in group III fibers only. 3. A characteristic feature of the background activity of some receptors in inflamed muscle was its intermittent nature: the discharges occurred either as grouped impulses of short duration or as phases of relatively high discharge frequency alternating with long periods of silence. 4. In normal muscle no receptor exhibited intermittent discharges or had a discharge rate exceeding 7 imp/min. Thus the presence of an intermittent background activity or a high frequency of the background discharge can be considered as characteristic for afferent units from an inflamed muscle. 5. The time course of the background activity showed two peaks, one occurring 2-4 h, the other one 6-7 h after induction of the inflammation. Recordings of single units during the transition from the normal to the inflamed state demonstrated that the first increase in background discharge took place 1-1.5 h after injection of carrageenan. 6. The proportion of noxious pressure units was reduced and that of moderate pressure units increased in inflamed muscle. In this case the difference was significant for group IV units only. 7. The response curves upon mechanical stimulation did not show significant differences in normal and inflamed muscle, i.e., sensitized noxious pressure units behaved similar to real touch units or moderate pressure units with respect to their mechanical excitability. 8. No apparent correlation existed between the receptors' mechanical threshold and degree of background activity in inflamed muscle. This suggests that the inflammation-induced change in mechanical excitability and development of background activity are independent phenomena.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)

The plant Mentha piperita, or peppermint, is commonly used in the treatment of loss of appetite, common cold, bronchitis, sinusitis, fever, nausea and vomiting, and indigestion as a herbal agent. In this study, we aimed to investigate biochemical and histological effects of M. piperita Labiatae, growing in the Yenisar Bademli town of Isparta city, and Mentha spicata Labiatae, growing in the Anamas high plateau of the Yenisar Bademli town, on the rat liver tissue. Forty-eight male Wistar albino rats weighing 200-250 g were used for this study. Rats were divided into four groups of 12 animals: Group I received no herbal tea (control group); Group II received 20 g/L M. piperita tea; Group III received 20 g/L M. spicata tea; and Group IV received 40 g/L M. spicata tea. Herbal teas were prepared daily and provided at all times to the rats during 30 days as drinking water. Liver function tests, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST/GOT) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT/GPT) activities were measured. To evaluate liver antioxidant defences, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), cata lase (CAT) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) activities were determined in the homogenates of liver tissue. In addition, liver tissues were submitted for histopathologic examination. AST and ALT activities were increased in Group II, Group III and Group IV gradually when compared with the control group. The difference between Group II and the control group was not statistically significant (P > 0.016). Increases in AST and ALT activities of Group III and Group IV were statistically significant when compared with the control group. SOD, GSH-Px and CAT activities were increased in Group II when compared with the control group but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.016). However, SOD, GSH-Px activities and the TBARS level were significantly increased, and CAT activity was significantly decreased in Group III when compared with the control group. In Group IV, while SOD, GSH-Px and CAT activities were decreased, the TBARS level was increased as compared with the control group (P < 0.0016). Histopathological evaluation of experimental groups revealed a mild to severe degree of hepatic damage when compared to the control group. In Group II, there was only minimal hepatocytes degeneration. In Groups III and IV, there were granular or ballooning hepatocyte degeneration and necrosis, sinusoidal and central vein dilatation. It was concluded that lipid peroxidation and hepatic damage occurs after M. piperita and M. spicata administration in rat liver and the damage seems to be dose dependent.

ABSTRACT Purpose The objective was to determine the effectiveness of antimicrobial solutions on Streptococcus mutans in used tooth brushes. Methods Sixty children used their toothbrushes twice a day, for seven consecutive days. The toothbrush bristles were then immersed into antimicrobial solutions for 12 hours: Group I-3% neem; group II-5% turmeric; group III-0.5% cetylpyridinium chloride, group IV-0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate. They were then placed into test tubes containing the resultant suspensions were three-fold diluted. Aliquots of 0.1 ml were plated in Mitis Salivarius Agar (enriched with sucrose) using dilution and plating method. Incubation was done in an anaerobic jar for 72 hours at 37°C. Results The results obtained showed that there was 88% reduction in the Streptococcus mutans in the 3% neem group, 86% reduction in the Streptococcus mutans in the 0.5% cetylpyridinium chloride group,78% reduction in the Streptococcus mutans in the 5% turmeric group, 65% reduction in the Streptococcus mutans in the 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate group. The difference between them was found to be statistically significant (p < 0.001). Conclusion Bacterial contamination of toothbrushes was a major cause of concern. All the antimicrobial solutions used in this study proved to be effective toothbrush decontaminants. The efficacy of 3% neem was highest in our study followed by 0.5% cetylpyridinium chloride, 5% turmeric and 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate. Groups of 24 Os estimated the slant of a circle and a rectangle (Groups I, II, and III) or a circle and a square (Group IV) by setting a tilt-rod. The forms were viewed at 45° slant, monocularly and binocularly, with fixed head, under reduced conditions. Exposure durations were: for Groups I, II, and IV, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 sec., imposed in descending order; and for Group III, five 3-sec. exposures. Groups I and III left the tilt-rod at the response setting, and Groups II and IV returned it to vertical, after each response. With reduced exposure, over-all estimates of slant decreased for the response setting (Group I), but decreased less (Group IV), or did not change significantly Group II) for the vertical setting. The difference between the estimates for the circle and rectangle or square increased with reduced exposure time due mainly to decrement for the angular forms. The discussion relates the over-all result to an anchor effect of tilt-rod position, and the trend difference for form to differential salience of projective outline distortion and convergence.

Relevance. Effective treatment of chronic dacryocystitis (CD) remains an urgent problem of modern ophthalmology and rhinology. When studying this issue, not enough attention is always paid to complications. Objective – to analyze the existing complications in the surgical treatment of patients with СD. Material and methods. The study group (1st group) consisted of 45 patients with CD, who underwent endonasal endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (EEDCR) according to the developed own method, the comparison group (2nd group) included 36 patients who after performing the developed EEDCR a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) conductor was installed in the area of the dacryonostoma. The control group (3rd group) included 28 patients who underwent EEDCR according to the traditional method: with the preservation and plastic placement of mucous flaps and with the installation of PVC-conductor. Patients of the 1st and 2nd groups were divided into 2 subgroups: 1A and 2A included patients who underwent computed tomography (CT) of the lacrimal ducts in the preoperative period according to the developed method and patients of subgroups 1B and 2B – according to the traditional algorithm. Statistical analysis was performed using the licensed program MedCalc (MedCalc Software bvba, Ostend, Belgium; 2017). Results. In patients of subgroups 2A, 2B, and group 3 in the period of 1.5 months after surgery, local complications of the eyeball were recorded: epiphora during implant wearing, severe conjunctivitis, prolapse and displacement of the implant, granulation in the lower lacrimal duct, ectopia of the lower lacrimal point. No such complications were observed in patients of subgroups 1A and 1B. In patients of subgroups 1B, 2B, and group 3 in the early postoperative period were recorded varying degrees of swelling of the lower eyelid, as well as nosebleeds after removal of tampons. No such complications were observed in patients of subgroups 1A and 2A, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (p <0.05). Conclusion. CT of the lacrimal ducts and EEDCR according to the developed methods are effective and allow their combined use to avoid local complications from the nasal cavity and eyeball.
