The 21st century requires people to make good decisions based on thoughtful and reasoned thinking. It is the task of the university teacher to provide the necessary conditions to develop critical thinking by using strategies that place the student as the basis of teaching work. The objective of the research was to determine the relationship between the level of critical thinking and the level of learning of mathematics of students entering university. The research is based on the quantitative correlational scope approach with transectional, correlational design. The sample was 115 students belonging to two universities, one private and the other public, located in Lima, Peru. For data collection, two tests were administered: one to assess the level of critical thinking, and the other to assess the level of learning in mathematics. The results show that critical thinking and learning of mathematics are significantly correlated. Likewise, each dimension of mathematics learning is significantly correlated with critical thinking. It is concluded that critical thinking favors the learning of mathematics in students entering university. This research serves as an indicator for mathematics teachers to use teaching strategies that develop critical thinking at the university level to obtain better results in learning mathematics. [El siglo XXI requiere de personas que tomen buenas decisiones en base a un pensamiento reflexivo y razonado. Mathematical thinking ability is the ability of thinking processes to think systematically, analyze arguments and come up with ideas with evidence to develop a logical mindset on what to do. This very important because students will be helped in thinking mathematically rationally in drawing conclusions and observing the problems that exist. It is also necessary to pay attention to self confidence which is the ability of students to solve existing problems. This study aims to determine the relationship between students 'mathematical critical thinking and students' self-confidence in learning mathematics for Grade IX students. This study uses quantitative research with a non-experimental approach, namely the correlation approach. The population of this study is class IX at SMP Al Madani with a sample of 21 people through the sampling technique, namely convenience sampling. Data collection techniques using observation, questionnaires, and tests. Data analysis used normality test and Pearson correlation test. Based on the research, the results obtained were 1) normality test with a significance of 0.586> 0.05, which means the data was normally distributed and 2) a correlation value of 0.520 and significant 0.016 <0.05, which means that there is a positive relationship between students' critical thinking skills and self-confidence. in mathematics learning. In other words, the higher the students 'critical thinking, the higher the students' self confidence. This can be explained also that students of SMP Al Madani have good self-confidence so that it can affect students' critical thinking skills in learning mathematics.

This research is based on learning in tertiary institutions which requires more active, independent and creative learners. of the importance of using appropriate learning methods in mathematics learning at the university level. SCAMPER is a technique that can be used to spark creativity and help overcome challenges that might be encountered in the form of a list of general goals with ideas spurring questions. This research aims to develop students' problem solving skills using the SCAMPER method in terms of student motivation. The population in this study were all semester V students of mathematics education study programs, which were also the research samples. From the analysis of the data it was found that the SCAMPER method was better in developing students' problem solving abilities with an average increase of 0.52 compared to conventional methods with an average increase of 0.45. In addition there is a difference between improving students' problem solving abilities when viewed from their motivation. But there is no interaction between motivational factors and learning methods.

We investigate the sub-Gaussian property for almost surely bounded random variables. If sub-Gaussianity per se is de facto ensured by the bounded support of said random variables, then exciting research avenues remain open. Among these questions is how to characterize the optimal sub-Gaussian proxy variance? Another question is how to characterize strict sub-Gaussianity, defined by a proxy variance equal to the (standard) variance? We address the questions in proposing conditions based on the study of functions variations. A particular focus is given to the relationship between strict sub-Gaussianity and symmetry of the distribution. In particular, we demonstrate that symmetry is neither sufficient nor necessary for strict sub-Gaussianity. In contrast, simple necessary conditions on the one hand, and simple sufficient conditions on the other hand, for strict sub-Gaussianity are provided. These results are illustrated via various applications to a number of bounded random variables, including Bernoulli, beta, binomial, Kumaraswamy, triangular, and uniform distributions.

This contribution focuses on three reader characteristics that potentially influence the ways in which men and women become engaged during reading: a reader’s gender, empathy and ability to critically and constructively perceive reality. These traits (in addition to biological sex) were assessed as part of an experimental reading study, and subsequently used to predict the variation in engagement during reading. Eighty-eight readers (50% female) took part in the study and read one of four narratives randomly assigned to them. Reader traits and reading engagement were assessed by questionnaire. Regression analyses showed that the relationship between biological sex and reading engagement is considerably more complex than mostly assumed: contrary to expectation, gender did not impact reading engagement in significant ways. In line with the hypothesis, however, higher levels of empathy, of critical thinking about mediated contents, and of constructively adopting narrative contents to one’s own life, significantly related to higher degrees of the reading engagement of men and women. Biological sex turned out to be significant for reading engagement only in combination with the other reader traits.

Using egocentric network data from the University of California Social Networks Study (1,136 respondents; 11,536 alters), this study examines how difficult ties—an unexplored form of social negativity—are associated with well-being. Findings show that well-being is affected by the quality of the relationship rather than its presence in the network. Having a nondifficult partner is associated with lower loneliness compared to having no partner, but having no partner and having a difficult partner are related to similar levels of loneliness. Likewise, having difficult adult children and having no adult children are associated with reporting greater psychological distress than having nondifficult adult children. Consistent with the stress process model, the negative association of a difficult partner with well-being is buffered when that partner is otherwise supportive and when the other ties in the network are supportive. However, that association is amplified when the other ties are also difficult.

Until my very inspiring associations with the Mathematics teachers of the University, I should have said that the contribution of the department of Mathematics to the department of English lay in the correction of a child's inaccuracies of speech— the troubling verbs, and the no less troubling pronouns. But four years of delightful professional camaraderie with my friends, the mathematicians, have taught me that this correction of verbal errors, while it is a help for which all English teachers are grateful, is by no means the greatest service which the one department renders to the other. No child handicapped from birth by constant association with illiterate minds, ever learns to speak accurately just because he is required by teachers of all departments to stumble again and again over a recitation until he has straightened out his verbs and purified his pronouns. To a child handicapped by environment, accuracy of speech comes only as the result of an inward desire—a yearning, a craving, a passion, for accuracy, In the development of linguistic power as well as in the development of character, we are saved by desire and not by compulsion; we are saved from within and never from without. The correction of a specific inaccuracy, therefore, is a help, to be sure; but it is neither the only nor yet the greatest service rendered, as many of us in our blindness had once supposed it to be.
