Today, it is necessary to use bookless libraries due to the increasing addition of new scientific articles and documents to previous sources and other related problems. This study aimed to propose a model for introducing the environmental psychology indices of the bookless library for Art and Architecture faculties by studying a case study at the Faculties of Art and Architecture of the Islamic Azad University, Tehran South Branch. This research, based on its nature, subject and objectives, used quantitative method. Statistical population of the study was the students studying at abovementioned faculties. Stratified random sampling method was employed to select the participants. The study was carried out in eight steps. In the first step, library resources such as books and reputable scientific articles were used for collecting the basic data. In the second step, reputable articles were used to find scientific design indices. In the third step, some indices were selected from the obtained indices for the design, and a questionnaire was prepared based on them. In the fourth step, the opinion of the supervisor was used for assessing the validity of the questionnaire, and the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was used for measuring the reliability of the questionnaire. In the fifth step, questionnaires were distributed among the students and their agreement to each index in the design was questioned. In the sixth step, the data obtained from the questionnaires was divided into three groups of variables: environmental psychology, internal architecture and digital equipment and furniture, then the data was analyzed by SPSS. The seventh step dealt with the hypotheses. Kolmogorov Smirnov Est, one-sample t-test, independent t-test and one-way variance analysis was used to test the hypotheses. In the final step, the results were obtained to prioritize the indices of internal space design. The results showed that indices with a mean more than 4 were mentioned as core indices, and indices with a score of more than 3.5 were considered as important indices. Finally, it can be concluded that the mentioned indexes will provide a desirable environment for designing a bookless library.

The act of displaying artwork and art objects in academic libraries has been called both a “natural idea and common practice” (Cirasella and Deutsch, 2012, p. 2), but this position lacks a considered and critical analysis. The motivation for displaying artwork in academic libraries and an evaluation of its impact on the library environment, as perceived by librarians, similarly lacks meaningful examination. This absence of previous inquiry provides a major stimulus for this research project, which uses a case study approach to examine and explore the ‘natural’ preoccupation for displaying artwork in academic libraries, and additionally considers such environments as public art spaces.

While more Pacific students are participating in tertiary education, there is little research on the information behaviour of this group in the academic library. As the primary function of the academic library is to support the learning needs of the student community, it is of interest to investigate how Pacific students use libraries and information resources available to them during their course of study. Using a qualitative case study approach, the aim of this study is to begin to understand Pacific students’ experiences of the library at Whitireia Community Polytechnic. This study investigates how they use the library, their perceptions of the library and how it may contribute to their academic success. Key findings of this study show that students generally had a positive experience of the library, using it not just as an information centre but also as a cultural centre. The library was a place for them to find information, a place for them to study and a place for them to meet other Pacific students and classmates whom they worked and studied with in the library. Though this group of participants did not feel that there were any significant cultural barriers to their use of the library, the findings reveal some cultural factors that may affect Pacific students’ use of the library. Though this is a small case study, it provides an understanding of the experience of this group of Pacific students in an academic library. Understanding the information needs and information – seeking behaviour of this group will enable library and academic staff to develop or improve appropriate services so that student learning outcomes may also be improved.

Indonesia is a country with high-risk potential for various types of disasters because Indonesia is located between three large tectonic plates of the earth, namely the Eurasian Plate, the Indo-Australian Plate and the Pacific Plate. Malang Regency is one of the districts included in the level of high hazard classification for tectonic earthquakes that can cause Tsunamis at any time. The purpose of this study is whether the Tsunami disaster simulation can affect the level of community resilience. This research method is quantitative pre-experimental design using a one-shot case study approach. The number of samples used amounted to 58 people using purposive sampling techniques. The instrument used was a community resilience questionnaire that would be tested using the One-sample t-test. The results of this study found that the value of community resilience after a tsunami disaster simulation averaged more than 100, which means that community resilience is good. P-value calculated> alpha value (0.05). The conclusion of this research is the Tsunami disaster simulation method can influence the level of community resilience. This study was carried out to determine how availability and accessibility could bring about sustainable development in perceived academic performance of polytechnics’ students using Ibadan Polytechnic as a case study. Survey design was used with structured questionnaire and observation as instruments for data collection. The questionnaire was administered with the aid of a research assistant. From the findings, it was revealed that textbooks and dictionaries were readily available in the library while electronic books and journals were not accessible. The study also revealed lack of enough electronic resources, lack of enough computers to access Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) and power failure as some of the challenges to availability and accessibility of library resources. Some recommendations were made based on the findings.

Purpose This study aims to describe a project that aims to give students a choice to complete their general education requirements without purchasing a textbook. Design/methodology/approach In total, 26 faculty, teaching in the new general education curriculum, at Central Washington University were given stipends to eliminate expensive textbooks and use free to the student resources such as open educational resources (OER) or library resources. The data was collected on student savings and student and faculty satisfaction with the program. Findings Many paths were created through the general education curriculum, so a student may easily finish these requirements without purchasing a textbook. The data from this case study coincide with the literature on the subject. Faculty found it fairly easy to replace their required textbooks with pedagogically sound, free resources. Students were relieved to have some financial relief and found the resources to be good. The student’s biggest complaint was that faculty often use very small portions of expensive required textbooks. Research limitations/implications This is a case study and the results are limited as such. This is one university and one general education curriculum. Also, if an academic library wants to replicate this case study, some funding is required. Practical implications Students struggle financially and alleviating the costs of textbooks is one-way librarians can ease that burden. Social implications Students struggle financially and alleviating the costs of textbooks is one-way librarians can ease that burden. Originality/value There have been some case studies written about OER, where 8 or 10 courses are replaced. There are studies written about zero-textbook-cost degrees at community colleges, but this case study explores a textbook-cost-free general education program at a state university.

This paper explores the challenges and opportunities presented by mobile applications in the context of an academic library collection. This emerging format raises important questions about selection, acquisition, access, instruction, outreach, and evaluation as these practices have been applied to traditional resources. A more nuanced understanding of the content and format of mobile applications informs a collection development strategy for discovering, acquiring, and maintaining these resources. The development of an outreach program that includes liaison activity, instruction, and research consultations is also explored as a way to drive users to these new resources. Using Stony Brook University Libraries as a case study, this paper discusses the potential of mobile applications as academic library resources plus practical ways to promote usage and enhance academic engagement.

Purpose – This study aims to evaluate and report on the challenges faced by a multinational academic library consortium with a heterogeneous membership and widely varying collection resources. Design/methodology/approach – The author uses a case study approach based on direct experience obtained with coordinating the word of such a consortium, from its nascent stages to its fully functional present-day form. Findings – Coordinating the work of an academic library consortium that spans the globe presents challenges such as an inability to set a meeting time – and place – that is agreeable to all and copyright laws that vary from one country to the next. Cataloging practices may affect the system’s ability to select an appropriate supplier based on reported journal holdings, but this problem is easily solved by a careful review of local practices and the system’s search algorithms. Originality/value – This article is of interest to anyone involved in a library consortium, regardless of its geographic boundaries.
