The method was quantitive, exploratory and descriptive. The study consisted on 201 teachers of both genders, between 25 and 59 years old, which belong to a public elementary school of the city of Floriano/PI, corresponding to 44.46% of the representative sample of the locality. Data were collected with the modern racism scale, and statistically analyzed by GraphPadPrism program to estimate aspects of categorization, and variables involved in racial prejudice. It was found that the discrimination was expressed in a muted way through the false myth of racial democracy: although the teachers had declared themselves free of prejudices, the contents of their conceptions show otherwise. Keywords: Racial prejudice. Effective reading instruction is considered one the best means of preventing school failure. This study examines how effective teaching practices of reading are formed among five exemplary elementary school teachers. By using a life history protocol informed by phenomenology, these teachers describe their past and present experiences as readers and teachers, and then explain the meaning they make out of these experiences. Individual and comparative analysis reveal that, although these teachers exhibit different experiences and teaching strategies, they share many personal and contextual experiences, such as reading models and engagement, reflection on practice and the importance of sharing experiences.

Abstract The article presents a research that investigated the representations of the “public school student” constructed by public elementary school teachers of Rio de Janeiro. Using the structural approach proposed by Abric, one concluded that the nucleus of the representation is constituted by the elements poor and learns to make it on his own. Comparing these results with those obtained in the previous steps of the research, it can be observed that, to the teachers, the student has to learn to make it on his own because he is poor and poverty would imply family desegregation and struggle for survival, preventing the parents from providing their children with the attention they need. Given all those characteristics, this student would represent a challenge to the teachers, but this is a challenge they feel they are impotent to cope with. Keywords: social representations; public school student; family and school; school failure.

This study analyzes the relation between national identity and the appreciation of the characters and events of Peruvian history in a sample of public school teachers from the city of Lima (N = 99). Adapted versions of the NATID Scale (Keillor et al., 1996) and the CSES Scale (Luhtanen & Crocker, 1992) are used as measures of national identity. National pride and interest in knowing about Peruvian history are variables also included in this study. The study shows that appreciation of historical characters is more positive than appreciation of historical events. There is a positive association between national identity and appreciation of Peruvian historical characters. A multiple linear regression model is proposed; this model shows that appreciation of cultural heritage and national pride has a positive impact on the appreciation of characters of Peruvian history.

21st century demands education to promote students with STEAM competencies. Most researches on STEAM are mainly focused on students’ learning outcomes on STEAM, but only few address non-cognitive aspects. It is necessary to examine elementary teachers and students’ beliefs and readiness towards STEAM learning. The purpose of this research is to explore teachers’ and students’ beliefs and readiness towards STEAM learning. The survey-designed method was used in this research. A total of 34 elementary school teachers and 36 elementary school students in the city of Bandung participated in this research. The samples were selected using a random sampling technique. Questionnaires were used to collect research data. The results obtained from this research show that students and teachers have positive perceptions in career and benefit of STEAM learning. Students are actually interested in STEAM learning, but the competencies and factors that support and stimulate STEAM learning in schools are still low. The teacher has low competencies to implement STEAM learning. This is due to the lack of knowledge and understanding of teachers about STEAM. This research is expected to contribute to the novelty of teachers’ readiness and beliefs in STEAM education in the city of Bandung
