This paper discusses word formation in Arabic through inlectional and derivational processes. Inlection is a morphological process of afixation that creates different forms of the word without changing the word category. Derivation is a morphological process which changes the form of the word and also changes the word category. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a synchronic time range. In other words, the inlectional and derivational word formation processes will be described as they are. The data were taken from an Arabic textbook for nonarabic students called “Al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk” (2007). The result shows that the inlection process in the formation of Arabic words is intended to mark the grammatical concepts of tenses, mood, diathesis, transitive, gender, and number in verb category, meanwhile in other categories such as noun, adjective, and particle, inlection is intended to mark the grammatical concepts of gender, number, and case. The derivational word formation process in Arabic is conducted in two ways, namely (1) internal changes and (2) afixations. Internal changes in the derivational process were carried out by changing the basic form into certain patterns through horizontal conjugation techniques (tashrif istilahy), namely by changing internal stem vowels, while afixations in the derivation process are conducted by adding afixes to the basic form, such as preixes or conixes. The derivation process in Arabic is intended to form derivation of nouns from verbs, verbs from nouns, and verbs from adjectives.

This research aims to identify the types of vocabulary in Japanese, to explore the word-formation process, and to analyse the function of COVID-19 related terms conveyed by various content creators on YouTube channels, from Japan and Indonesia. The seven YouTube channel accounts are Aki no Sora (Indonesia), po.n.go_id or Pocket Nihongo (Indonesia), Sakura Pinku (Indonesia), Wagomu (Indonesia), Omoshiroi Nihongo (Japan), Japanese Ammo with Misa (Japan), and Coto Academy (Japan that used as the data source. Data were collected using the observation method and analysed by the distribution method. The results showed that the COVID-19 related terms are dominated by the type of vocabulary kango as the form or type of vocabulary that is most widely used in matching the COVID-19 related term. Among all word-formation processes, the COVID-19 terms in Japanese identified as borrowing, compounding, and multiple processes. However, the multiple word-formation processes are dominated on COVID-19 terms in Japanese. It related to the domination of the type of kango used. From that, there are multiple functions that are included in COVID-19 terms in Japanese, namely disease information, preventive action, symptom, and announcement. Therefore, this research can be contributed to data analysis, which used morphological analysis in Japanese terms.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the tendency of Indonesians to assume all types of abbreviation is acronym. This study examines the types of word formation process of abbreviation, and whether abbreviation or acronym is the correct umbrella term for this particular morphological process. Using library research method, this paper refers to two key morphology researchers from Britain and Indonesia, Laurie Bauer and Harimurti Krisdalaksana respectively, as well as one Indonesian Doctorate Arie Ansrasyah Isa whom referred the former two researchers in her study that proposes 16 types of abbreviations using data from top Indonesian newspapers, Jakarta Post and Kompas. This paper concludes that common people in Indonesia refer all abbreviations as acronyms because their high preference in abbreviating long phrases stems from the desire to increase pronounceability and familiarity of words, usually in the context of humor, but is highly prevalent in all situations, formal or non-formal.

Change is the nature of every  living language for better communication. These changes can be phonological, morphological, syntactical and lexical, because of various linguistic affects. The synchronic and diachronic study of language proves that it enriches the vocabulary of the language. Another reason for the enrichment of vocabulary is through morphological word formation process which are mainly inflectional, derivational, compounding and reduplication, etc. Reduplication is implicit to phonological (sounds and prosodic units) and morphological (word constituents) components. It occurs in many languages and helps in the formation of new words. The present study concentrates on the process of reduplication Kurukh and the role of reduplication  in acquiring vocabulary.

This research aims to explore the word-formation process in English new words found in the internet-based media through acronym, compound,  clipping and blending and their meanings. This study applies Plag’s (2002) framework of acronym and compound; Jamet’s (2009) framework of clipping, and Algeo’s framework (1977) in Hosseinzadeh  (2014) for blending. Despite the  formula established in each respective framework,  there could be occurrences  of novelty and modification on how words are formed and  how meaning developed in  the newly formed words. The research shows that well accepted acronyms can become real words by taking lower case and affixation. Some acronyms initialized non-lexical words, used non initial letters, and used letters and numbers that pronounced the same with the words they represent. Compounding also includes numbers as the element member of the compound. The nominal nouns are likely to have metaphorical and idiomatic meanings. Some compounds evolve to new and more specific meaning. The study also finds that back-clipping is the most dominant clipping. In blending, the sub-category clipping of blending, the study finds out that when clipping takes place, the non-head element is back-clipped and the head is fore-clipped.

This research discussed about the slang words in Gap Year movie series and the word formation of the slang words which were found in the movie series. Slang itself was used by certain group or community, which could be produced by compounding, affixation, truncation, conversion, blending, neologism, etymology, borrowing, coinage, and multiple processes. This research used a qualitative method. In this research, the data were collected from Gap Year movie series in the form of British slangs. Then the data were checked by using dictionary, Oxford English Dictionaries Online and Etymology dictionaries online to make sure whether the data belonged to slang words or not and also to check the origin of the words. The data were also analyzed based on Plag and Yule’s theories in terms of etymology, borrowing, coinage, and multiple processes. After collecting the data, there were 30 slang words found in this movie series. The result of the research showed that the slangs were formed through compounding (8 data), affixation (5 data), truncation (1 data), blending (2 data), etymology (9 data), borrowing (1 data), coinage (2 data), and multiple process (2 data). Therefore, the most used of word formation process was etymology.
