Purpose of the study: The article focuses on the study of gallantry culture in terms of the theory of intercultural communication on the example of fiction written by N.M. Karamzin, an outstanding representative of European and Russian sentimentalism. Methods and materials: The theoretical aspects of the problem of gallantry are considered in the context of the main provisions of modern concepts of intercultural communication. N.M. Karamzin’s “sensitive” novels are analyzed from the standpoint of gallant secular ceremonies. Main findings: The concept of gallantry is associated with the psychological aspects of the new secular personality. It is correlated with the educational and didactic ideas of the Enlightenment and the chivalry code. The basis of true gallant psychology as a sensitive world view is love, passion, and tenderness, which forms a system of ideas for the gallant education of the younger generation in a new society at the turn of the 18th – 19thcenturies. The article reveals the main features of the gallant gentleman: sensitivity, melancholy, virtue, lack of rational principles. The originality of the study: The ideas about the interrelated gradual comprehension of Beauty and Virtue, Love and the sensory perception of Beauty as a Divine principle are likewise important. The discoveries of N.M. Karamzin, a writer and a psychologist, in the sphere of gallant psychology and the general cultural phenomenon of gallantry are connected with the analysis of the person’s internal rules of behavior, thinking and world perception. The article shows how the writer developed new cultural studies at the joint of literature, everyday life and psychology, which laid the foundation of the studied problem.

UNIVERSITY CURRICULA OF CULTURAL STUDIES AT POLISH UNIVERSITIES – AN ATTEMPT AT ASSESSMENTThe scientific world view which has been shaped since the Enlightenment influences the belief that man is the sole creator of culture whereas the main culture-creating factors are economic conditions and social relations. Therefore, management-economic or sociological approach are dominant ones in contemporary curricula of cultural studies. Christianity and other religions are not treated as ideological foundations shaping culture, but as a manifestation of human activity resulting from primal fear of incomprehensible phenomena which occur in the surrounding world. Hence, religion is understood not as a culture-forming subject, but as an object that is one of many elements of culture, a historical and transient phenomenon.

Cultural translation is a very hot topic among academic circle in China. Research on cultural translation has dramatically increased after 2006, and reached a peak in the recent five years. However, most studies are still confined to the linguistic level, starting from translation studies and focusing on the translation of culture embedded words. Thus, integrating cultural studies with translation in order to improve intercultural communication needs serious attention. After a brief summary of current cultural translation research in China, this article attempts to analyze the movie Green Book through five dimensions developed by Sara Maitland: interpretation, distanciation, incorporation, transformation, and emancipation. Through the translation of cultural phenomenon in the movie, this research shows that misunderstanding and conflicts are bound to happen among people from different races and classes. However, only when individuals attempt to understand each other culturally, better understanding can come up and better intercultural communication can be obtained.

The article discusses the relationship between popular cultures, pop cultures and popular media cultures as transformative educational cultures. For this purpose, these three cultural formations are related to the themes of culture, everyday life, society, education, narration, experience and present. Apart from a few exceptions, such as in youth sociological works on cinema and education, in the context of media literacy discussions or in dealing with media education, educational dimensions of popular cultures and pop cultures have generally not been the focus of attention in media and cultural studies.

The concept of shape is widely used by musicians in talking and thinking about performance, yet the mechanisms that afford links between music and shape are little understood. Work on the psychodynamics of everyday life by Daniel Stern and on embodiment by Mark Johnson suggests relationships between the multiple dynamics of musical sound and the dynamics of feeling and motion. Recent work on multisensory and precognitive sensory perception and on the role of bimodal neurons in the sensorimotor system helps to explain how shape, as a percept representing changing quantity in any sensory mode, may be invoked by dynamic processes at many stages of perception and cognition. These processes enable ‘shape’ to do flexible and useful work for musicians needing to describe the quality of musical phenomena that are fundamental to everyday musical practice and yet too complex to calculate during performance.

This article examines the ways in which popular culture stages and supplies resources for agency in everyday life, with particular attention to migration and borders. Drawing upon cultural studies, and specific insights originating from the Birmingham Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies, we explore how intersectional identities such as race, ethnicity, class, and gender are experienced in relation to the globalisation of culture and identity in a 2007 Coronation Street storyline. The soap opera genre offers particular insights into how agency emerges in everyday life as migrants and locals navigate the forces of globalisation. We argue that a focus on popular culture can mitigate the problem of isolating migrant experiences from local experiences in migrant-receiving areas.

The article is devoted to the study of the mechanisms of universal concepts transformation into linguocultural mental units, a significant place among which belongs to the concept interpretive field which is defined as a series of cognitive characteristics interpreting the concept image and its notional content during its personal or collective consciousness practical comprehension. Changes within the prototype core and the conceptual field, arising due to the expansion of concept interpretation field during its historical development, have been analyzed in the research. Due to the semantic-cognitive and comparative analysis, changes within the interpretive field of the Spanish concepts CABALLERO, BANDERA and MACHO have been determined. It was clarified that the expansion of the interpretation field is accompanied by the modification of concept notional, associative and axiological components under the influence of social, historical, psychological and emotional peculiarities of the Spaniards. These modifications are reflected in the evaluative, conceptual, paremiological, utilitarian and regulatory zones of the concept interpretative field. It is established that the acquisition of the linguistic-cultural specificity by a universal concept occurs during its transition from the philosophical, religious or state-ideological type of consciousness to the everyday-life one, where the concept is rethought by the Spaniards in accordance with their world view and life realities. The boundaries of the concept interpretation field are expanded by its intellectual reflection under the influence of the people’s historical memory and revealed in literary works, music, painting and cinematography.

Embora o fim dos nacionalismos tenha sido apregoado no final do século passado, estes ainda marcam presença em nossas sociedades contemporâneas. Neste artigo, a partir do romance de Ondjaki, procura-se identificar e analisar diferentes representações e discursos construídos sobre o tema. O que se quer entender é se os discursos de identidade nacional seguem invariáveis ou se apontam para a transformação, ou mesmo para o fim, da ideia de nação. No contexto da pós-modernidade, onde os conceitos de globalização e multiculturalidade são frequentemente chamados à discussão, importa observar em que termos essas identidades são construídas e/ou contestadas. Nesse sentido, a Luanda de Ondajki, com seu cotidiano de contatos entre pessoas das mais diversas origens, revela-se palco bastante fértil para a análise.********************************************************************The transparents: national identities on display in Ondjaki’s AngolaAbstract: Although the end of nationalisms has been proclaimed at the end of the last century, they are still present in our contemporary societies. This article, focused on Ondjaki’s novel, seeks to identify and analyze different representations and discourses constructed on the topic. What we want to understand is whether the national identity discourses remain the same or they indicate the transformation of the idea of nation, or even its end. In the context of postmodernity, where the concepts of globalization and multiculturalism are often called to the fore, it should be noted in which terms such identities are constructed and / or challenged.
