Endoscopic operations on the frontal sinus and anterior ethmoid labyrinth are among the most technically difficult in rhinosurgery. This results from the wide variability of the anatomical relationships of the elements involved in the formation of the ventilation pathway and sinus outflow. In addition, problems arise regarding the definition of suprastructural components that play a key role in the pathogenesis of diseases of the frontal sinuses: frontal recess, ostium, and drainage pathway of the frontal sinus. The article aims to review the nomenclature of the anatomical elements of the anterior ethmoid labyrinth and suprastructural components that are presented as contradictory in various literature sources. The authors pay special attention to the process of rhinological nomenclature developing in the historical aspect, determine its place in general anatomical terminology, call attention to the applied aspects of its use and development prospects. In the author’s opinion, a clear and orderly nomenclature allows to some extent simplifying the understanding of rather confusing anatomy of the anterior ethmoid labyrinth, which is critically important both in practice and in scientific research.

Anatomical terminology carries an important semantic characteristic of organs and separate parts of the human body. The term in anatomy is a word that has a special, strictly defined meaning, unambiguous. Each term in human anatomy from the point of view of the anatomical nomenclature should have a certain characteristic, reflecting its uniqueness. However, this is not always possible. From these positions, the definition of the segment of the spinal cord is of interest. A characteristic feature of the external organization of the spinal cord is the periodicity of the exits of symmetrically arranged radicular filaments in the form of the posterior and anterior roots and the absence of visible external division into segments. The authors propose to define the segment of the spinal cord as a conditionally isolated part of the spinal cord in the form of a flattened cylinder (thickened disc), including regions with a symmetrically extending pair of spinal nerves and half of the intercortical distances located above and below the rootlets.

New conditions, technological capabilities and development prospects of the geodetic industry in recent time are characterized. The directions and strategy of the developing the industry, aimed at increasing its national importance by expanding the field of activity from the level of geoinformation to the level of its widespread use are substantiated. The solutions and tasks for the transfer of geo-information activities to a digital basis are listed. The definition of the geospatial activity’s concept is given. The conceptual structure and essentially new directions of geospatial support development of territories taking into account the perspective are offered. They are creating a single territorial geo-information space, designing and developing geo-cognitive technologies for forming geospatial knowledge, developing geo-cognitive technologies for preparing geo-spatial solutions to ensure territorial development and management. The technological levels of formalization and use of geospatial knowledge at preparing spatial solutions are considered. The forecast of expected efficiency received from geospatial activity in the digital economy is given. The scientific and technical directions for the successful geospatial supporting the spatial development of the country and solving tasks of transition to the digital economy are listed.

Latin anatomical terminology of venous perforators (communications between superficial and deep venous systems of the lower limb) was adopted as late as 2001 as an appendix to the official nomenclature following the clinicians’ request. Terminologia Anatomica, last version of the Latin anatomical nomenclature, published in 1998, unfortunately contains no terms concerning these veins. During the 14th World Congress of the International Union of Phlebology, a consensus document was laid to expand the nomenclature of the lower limb veins, above all 36 new terms for perforators of the lower limb, both in Latin and English languages. This consensus document will be incorporated in the next version of the Terminologia Anatomica. But there are more constant and well-described ones, especially in the foot, and this article reviews in particular the current knowledge on the anatomy of the venous perforators of the whole lower limb.

This work aims to reorganize theoretical and empirical research on smart mobility through the systematic literature review approach. The research goal is to reach an extended and shared definition of smart mobility using the cluster analysis. The article provides a summary of the state of the art that can have broader impacts in determining new angles for approaching research. In particular, the results will be a reference for future quantitative developments for the authors who are working on the construction of a territorial measurement model of the smartness degree, helping them in identifying performance indicators consistent with the definition proposed.

PURPOSE: To investigate the relevance of the term superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) and demonstrate that this term is important enough to be added to the MeSH database and listed in International Anatomical Nomenclature. METHODS: Terms related to SMAS were selected from original articles retrieved from the ISI Web of Science and MEDLINE (PubMed) databases. Groups of terms were created to define a search strategy with high-sensitivity and restricted to scientific periodicals devoted to plastic surgery. This study included articles between January 1996 and May 2009, whose titles, abstracts, and keywords were searched for SMAS-related terms and all occurrences were recorded. RESULTS: A total of 126 original articles were retrieved from the main periodicals related to plastic surgery in the referred databases. Of these articles, 51.6% had SMAS-related terms in the abstract only, and 25.4% had SMAS-related terms in both the title and abstract. The term 'superficial musculoaponeurotic system' was present as a keyword in 19.8% of the articles. The most frequent terms were 'SMAS' (71.4%) and superficial musculoaponeurotic system (62.7%). CONCLUSION: The term SMAS refers to a structure relevant enough to start a discussion about indexing it as a keyword and as an official term in Terminologia Anatomica: International Anatomical Terminology.

On 7 May 2015, the term “esports” was officially added to one of the most extensive online English dictionaries “Dictionary.com.” The dictionary gives the following definition of the term “esports”: “competitive tournaments of video games, especially among professional gamers” (IGN, 2015). The history of esports began in the late 20th century with the game Quake, which allowed users to play together through a LAN or internet network. Since then, a tremendous number of new esports leagues have emerged. Every year, game publishers promote esports disciplines; create a media space around them, and make competitively oriented games, creating an active audience. The popularity of computer-based esports grows each year at an increasing speed. Therefore, it is not surprising that the traditional for typical sports (football, basketball, volleyball, etc.) model of interaction between professional players (esports athletes) and sports clubs (esports organizations) emerged quite rapidly. This interaction aims to optimize the training process to increase athletic achievements and develop the media component for players and clubs. This article analyzes how esports clubs function in media spaces: their goals, tools, strategies, results, and development prospects on the examples and experience of professional esports organizations in Germany, Finland, and China.

The Smart Skin Envelope research analyses the recent revolution that has taken place in the sector of planning and production of smart skin components, made up of dynamic layers. The aim is to identify the technological, functional, qualitative and performance parameters that guide the decisions of the actors in the innovation process. It explores the factors that drive them to develop solutions and proposals designed to transform the envelope of the building from a static to a dynamic element, featuring interoperable components that can interact with the input from the outdoor and indoor environments, in relation to which the smart skin acts as a system of boundary and delimitation. The proposed research programme explores in particular the sector of Smart Envelopes, setting as its priority objective the identification and definition of the energy performance, both through analysis of the state of the art and through the development of a facade component that is dynamic in terms of the adaptive variability of its performance.

Electro-hydraulic servo-actuators (EHSAs) are currently considered the state-of-the art solution for the control of the primary flight control systems of civil and military aircraft. Combining the expected service life of a commercial aircraft with the fact that electro-hydraulic technology is employed in the vast majority of currently in-service aircraft and is planned to be used on future platforms as well, the development of an effective Prognostic and Health Management (PHM) system could provide significant advantages to fleet operators and aircraft maintenance, such as the reduction of unplanned flight disruptions and increased availability of the aircraft. The occurrence of excessive internal leakage within the EHSAs is one of the most common causes of return from the field of flight control actuators, making this failure mode a priority in the definition of any dedicated PHM routine. This paper presents a case study on the design of a prognostic system for this degradation mode, in the context of a wider effort toward the definition of a prognostic framework suitable to work on in-flight data. The study is performed by means of a high-fidelity simulation model supported by experimental activities. Results of both the simulation and the experimental work are used to select a suitable feature, then implemented within the prognostic framework based on particle filtering. The algorithm is at first theoretically discussed, and then tested against several degradation patterns. Performances are evaluated through state-of-the-art metrics, showing promising results and providing the basis towards future applications on real in-flight data.

This chapter concerns the visual saliency and the perceptual quality assessment of 3D meshes. Firstly, the chapter proposes a definition of visual saliency and describes the state-of-the-art methods for its detection on 3D mesh surfaces. A focus is made on a recent model of visual saliency detection for 3D colored and non-colored meshes whose results are compared with a ground-truth saliency as well as with the literature's methods. Since this model is able to estimate the visual saliency on 3D colored meshes, named colorimetric saliency, a description of the construction of a 3D colored mesh database that was used to assess its relevance is presented. The authors also describe three applications of the detailed model that respond to the problems of viewpoint selection, adaptive simplification and adaptive smoothing. Secondly, two perceptual quality assessment metrics for 3D non-colored meshes are described, analyzed, and compared with the state-of-the-art approaches.
