Além-do-homem. From Decadence to Great Health: a bridge to the Nietzschean beyond-manABSTRACTThis article discusses decadence and great health, themes frequently present in Nietzsche's philosophy, where decadence appears as a synonym for disease and in opposition to what he called “great health”. It begins by approaching the man's illness process, where it is discussed, mainly the concept of health. Then, the idea of man as being sick is addressed, based on his great boredom: nihilism. And at this point nihilism is analyzed, according to Nietzsche's reading undertaken by Deleuze, from its four sides: negative, reactive, passive and active. Finally, an understanding of the eternal return and amor fati is presented, in order to arrive at the idea of great health, which can offer the conditions for the possibility of understanding the Nietzschean notion of beyond-man.Keywords: Nietzsche. AbstractThe aim of the article is to present wellness programs as means leading to the creation of culture of health in organizations. The notion of culture of health is becoming increasingly important for companies as statistics show that the number of health-related work problems is steadily increasing. As a result, labor costs are systematically increasing. To tackle this problem, companies began to introduce health and wellness programs to improve the psychophysical health of their employees. The article includes an overview of the concept of health-promoting company culture. It also identifies factors determining its success among employees, defines factors that limit employee participation and presents good practices for disease prevention through employee-oriented programs. This article is based on a literature review, including both: literature and statistical data available in official data bases. In many cases, research confirms the usefulness of wellness programs in the process of building a corporate culture of health. It also shows factors limiting the usability of such programs, which leads to companies being able to develop and improve.

This chapter examines the connections between medicine and philosophy in the seventeenth century with a particular focus on Anne Conway, Rene Descartes, and thinkers influenced by Descartes such as Henricus Regius, Jacques Rohault, and Johannes De Raey. It is shown that, despite the strong dualism associated with Descartes, thinkers of the period were very interested in the close connections between body and mind. One problem confronting these thinkers was how to reconcile their mechanistic, anti-teleological understanding of bodies with the normative concept of health. It is also shown that Descartes was intensely concerned with using philosophy to achieve a good state of both mind and body, a project shared by medical authors who adopted the Cartesian system.

In this work, it is analysed how the medical practice is imbued with Cartesian rational thought as well as empiricist thought and it is stated that medicine is an art and is science. It is proposed that the object of knowledge of the medical practice is not the concept of disease but health. It is from the concept of health and normality that medical taxonomy labels individuals as sick. This taxonomy is frequently re-evaluated and reorganized by scientific societies. This sometimes occurs according to new knowledge, but this categorization may also be questioned due to direct intervention or indirect pressure related to interests, especially economic, that are sometimes not clearly visible. Accordingly, an ongoing discussion is needed to keep the medical practice neutral against struggles of interest derived from the health industry. These topics must be considered and debated in medical schools including undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Modern people's concept of health is more comprehensive; in addition to physical health, they focus on mental health even more. Computer multimedia group psychological measurement is introduced, and a mental health education model is constructed in this paper. The model includes three interrelated levels: mechanism level, evaluation level, and target level. It emphasizes the key and core role of mental quality in mental health. It advocates incorporating mental quality into the evaluation and diagnosis system of the overall state of individual mental health, combines the classified qualitative assessment and quantitative assessment, and arranges appropriate prevention and intervention measures according to different types of individuals. Practice has proved that this method is effective.

It is an exegesis of the quote from Epictetus in the Interviews (Book II, 17) that seeks to explain the double dimension of health as a philosophical issue and as a common concept. The aim is to articulate this late and singular formulation of Canguilhem's work in his project for a history of the life sciences understood as a philosophical task. In this sense, central issues of his Normal and Pathological thesis should be evoked – especially the disjunction between the antinomic pair health and disease and the chromatic physiology-pathology pair. As a conclusion, an articulation of the problem with the ongoing crisis is offered, understood from the impasses in the biomedical field and unsatisfactory answers from the social sciences and philosophy. Keywords: Canguilhem. Abstract Healthy, Good and Happy: The Topicality of the Medieval Model of WellbeingDeparting from a miscellany with various do-it-yourself advice texts from the city of Deventer, this article explains the medieval model of health. It argues that medievals held an overall vision of health, involving physical, mental and spiritual well-being as well as the search for the moral good. At the end of the Middle Ages, residents of Dutch cities energetically strove to create for themselves a better life in terms of health, comfort, satisfaction and spiritual perfection but never left fellow humans to their own devices. Current decision-makers could profit from this integral model and may replace the concept of health with that of well-being.

The concept of health is a social construction defined by the historical-cultural contexts of societies. At the moment, this context is characterized by global challenges such as climate change, energy crisis, the north-south divide, and poverty, among others. In view of these challenges, sustainable development has emerged as a proposal to cope with these drawbacks of the Western development model. In this sense, it is plausible to suppose, in accordance with a new global scenario of sustainable development, that a new conception of health is also emerging. For that reason, this paper aims at identifying this renewed concept of health, together with related concepts which are mentioned in the official documents on sustainable development originated in the world summits. Despite the fact that the concepts of health and sustainable development have been understood as being equivalent, none of the aforementioned official documents has provided societies with an explicit concept of health. It was verified that the concept of health has been associated with that of need satisfaction and preservation of ecosystems, whereas the construct of illness is associated with the concepts of poverty and high consumption levels. Finally, it is concluded that health is an intermediate goal of sustainable development and not an end in itself.
