In modern times, medical diagnostics began to develop significantly more. This article reflects the improved methods of therapeutic treatment of periodontal disease, taking into account the use of different drugs. Also shown are more modern trends in the development of improved hygiene products for the oral cavity, which is based on the use of natural mineral salts in order to use therapeutic therapy without medicines for the treatment of periodontal disease.

AbstractAccording to some studies, the Entamoeba gingivalis colonizing the gingival tissue is an important agent in bringing about periodontitis. Other studies, however, deem it an opportunist that is able to survive in the medium induced by periodontal disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of Entamoeba gingivalis infection in patients from the Department of Periodontology, and compare this population with that of healthy people, so as to analyze the relationships between infection and patient sex and age. The result of this work is that in both groups, a correlation (p = 0,19) has been noted between the occurrence of amoebae and other diseases in the oral cavity. Indeed, 81,4% of all patients with some periodontal disease showed the presence of amoeba. Among those who are not afflicted with oral diseases, the presence of amoeba was indicated in 62,5% of the total. In addition, a correlation between the person's age and the presence of protozoa (p = 0,15) was strongly marked among women (p = 0,19). In the three age groups of women in this study (40-49, 60-69, and above 80 years), we observed a 100% presence of protozoa.Our study leads us to the conclusion that infections with Entamoeba gingivalis should be regarded as an factor that is associated with the pathological changes occurring in patients with periodontal diseases.

Abstract OBJECTIVE To compare the bacteriome of the oral cavity in healthy dogs and dogs with various stages of periodontal disease. ANIMALS Dogs without periodontal disease (n = 12) or with mild (10), moderate (19), or severe (10) periodontal disease. PROCEDURES The maxillary arcade of each dog was sampled with a sterile swab, and swabs were submitted for next-generation DNA sequencing targeting the V1–V3 region of the 16S rRNA gene. RESULTS 714 bacterial species from 177 families were identified. The 3 most frequently found bacterial species were Actinomyces sp (48/51 samples), Porphyromonas cangingivalis (47/51 samples), and a Campylobacter sp (48/51 samples). The most abundant species were P cangingivalis, Porphyromonas gulae, and an undefined Porphyromonas sp. Porphyromonas cangingivalis and Campylobacter sp were part of the core microbiome shared among the 4 groups, and P gulae, which was significantly enriched in dogs with severe periodontal disease, was part of the core microbiome shared between all groups except dogs without periodontal disease. Christensenellaceae sp, Bacteroidales sp, Family XIII sp, Methanobrevibacter oralis, Peptostreptococcus canis, and Tannerella sp formed a unique core microbiome in dogs with severe periodontal disease. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE Results highlighted that in dogs, potential pathogens can be common members of the oral cavity bacteriome in the absence of disease, and changes in the relative abundance of certain members of the bacteriome can be associated with severity of periodontal disease. Future studies may aim to determine whether these changes are the cause or result of periodontal disease or the host immune response.

Abstract OBJECTIVE To investigate the mycobiome of the oral cavity in healthy dogs and dogs with various stages of periodontal disease. ANIMALS 51 dogs without periodontal disease (n = 12) or with mild (10), moderate (19), or severe (10) periodontal disease. PROCEDURES The whole maxillary arcade of each dog was sampled with a sterile swab, and swabs were submitted for next-generation DNA sequencing targeting the internal transcribed spacer 2 region with a commercial sequencing platform. RESULTS Fungi were detected in all samples, with a total of 320 fungal species from 135 families detected in the data set. No single fungal species was found in all samples. The 3 most frequently found fungal species were Cladosporium sp (46/51 samples), Malassezia restricta (44/51 samples), and Malassezia arunalokei (36/51 samples). Certain fungi, specifically those of the family Didymellaceae, the family Irpicaceae, and the order Pleosporales, were significantly associated with different stages of periodontitis. Mycobial analysis indicated that Cladosporium sp could be considered part of the core oral cavity mycobiome. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE Results highlighted that fungi are present in the oral cavity of dogs and are characterized by substantial species diversity, with different fungal communities associated with various stages of periodontal disease. The next-generation DNA sequencing used in the present study revealed substantially more species of fungi than previous culture-based studies.

Entamoeba gingivalis is protozoa (non-pathogen amoeba) that lives in the oral cavity and act as opportunistic parasite. The parasite is most common found within oral cavity with advance periodontal disease. This study aimed to find the existence Entamoeba gingivalis within oral cavity with mild oral hygiene. The study was conducted by making preparation of plaque taken from patient's oral cavity with mild oral hygiene. The degree of oral hygiene was determined by using Silness and Loe Index and Ramfjord Periodontal Index. The number of Entamoeba gingivalis was gained by counting them from the preparation examined under microscope. The result demonstrates that mild oral hygiene has a high percentage of Entamoeba gingivalis is that 80 % either for various plaque index or ages.

Periodontal disease is known to be the most common and serious health problem in dogs today. Despite the rather large arsenal of medicinal substances, the problem of treatment and prevention of periodontal disease remains relevant. Based on this, the purpose of the work was to study the features of chronic catarrhal gingivitis and to develop an effective treatment regimen for dentistically ill dogs. For research, two groups of animals with chronic catarrhal gingivitis were formed in 5 dogs in each (control and experimental), selected on the principle of analogues in terms of age, character and localization of the inflammatory process. Animals of the control and experimental groups were performed tartar removal, irrigation of the oral cavity with water and drying of the mucosa with a sterile gauze swab. Dogs of the control group on the mucous membrane was applied 1 ml of septogel 2 times a day, and the experimental – argumentistin 2 times a day. Before and after the procedures on the mucous membrane was applied a 3 % solution of hydrogen peroxide. It was determined the prevalence of dental disease in dogs, the influence of microflora on the condition of the oral cavity of dogs with chronic catarrhal gingivitis, the clinical condition and the main indices and samples were studied, reflecting the intensity of the inflammatory process in the gums of sick dogs and was developed a method of treatment. The results of researches have shown that the use of argumentistin in the complex treatment of dogs with chronic catarrhal gingivitis helps to reduce the recovery period by 5 days.

Introduction: Psoriasis has been associated with other diseases, or comorbidities, within which the oral cavity is involved. However, there is no consensus regarding the clinical description. The objective of this study was to establish the oral and periodontal status in a group of patients with Psoriasis vulgaris in relation to markers of clinical severity. Materials and Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and observational study. 71 Patients diagnosed with psoriasis at the Hospital Militar Central. The indexes PASI and DLQI to determine their clinical activity were evaluated. We also evaluated serum markers of activity, A direct observation, ganglion palpation, extraoral, intraoral examination, and periodontal clinical index. Chi-squared test for associations was performed, All analyses involved a significance level of 5% and were carried out using the statistical analysis program STATA, version 11.1. Results: Periodontal disease was present in 70% of our patients with a moderate degree of severity in most cases. The presence of P. gingivalis was detected in 23% of patients, 9% of patients with P. gingivalis presented with severe psoriasis (p: 0.189); of these patients, 55% also had periodontal disease (p: 0.189); although this was not statistically significant. Furthermore, 91% of our patients presented with some form of lesion or anatomical variation in the oral cavity; of these, 28% had a single lesion, 63% had multiple lesions and 81.80% of the subjects showed lesions with strong psoriatic association (p = 0.033), including fissured tongue (60.87%; p = 0.034), angular cheilitis (14.49%; p = 0.03) and oral erythematous lesions (13.04%; p = 0.023). Conclusion: We did not detect statistically significant associations between the severity of psoriasis and periodontal disease but our findings related to oral changes could have good relevance for this type of patients. Our data indicate the need for multidisciplinary management between the clinician and specialists in periodontics and oral pathology.

ABSTRACTThe oral cavity is home to a wide variety of bacterial species, both commensal, such as various streptococcal species, and pathogenic, such asPorphyromonas gingivalis, one of the main etiological agents of periodontal disease. Our understanding of how these bacteria ultimately cause disease is highly dependent upon understanding how they coexist and interact with one another in biofilm communities and the mechanisms by which biofilms are formed. Our research has demonstrated that the DNABII family of DNA-binding proteins are important components of the extracellular DNA (eDNA)-dependent matrix of bacterial biofilms and that sequestering these proteins via protein-specific antibodies results in the collapse of the biofilm structure and release of the resident bacteria. While the high degree of similarity among the DNABII family of proteins has allowed antibodies derived against specific DNABII proteins to disrupt biofilms formed by a wide range of bacterial pathogens, the DNABII proteins ofP. gingivalishave proven to be antigenically distinct, allowing us to determine if we can use anti-P. gingivalisHUβ antibodies to specifically target this species for removal from a mixed-species biofilm. Importantly, despite forming homotypic biofilmsin vitro,P. gingivalismust enter preexisting biofilmsin vivoin order to persist within the oral cavity. The data presented here indicate that antibodies derived against theP. gingivalisDNABII protein, HUβ, reduce by half the amount ofP. gingivalisorganisms entering into preexisting biofilm formed by four oral streptococcal species. These results support our efforts to develop methods for preventing and treating periodontal disease.IMPORTANCEPeriodontitis is one of the most prevalent chronic infections, affecting 40 to 50% of the population of the United States. The root cause of periodontitis is the presence of bacterial biofilms within the gingival space, withPorphyromonas gingivalisbeing strongly associated with the development of the disease. Periodontitis also increases the risk of secondary conditions and infections such as atherosclerosis and infective endocarditis caused by oral streptococci. To induce periodontitis,P. gingivalisneeds to incorporate into preformed biofilms, with oral streptococci being important binding partners. Our research demonstrates that targeting DNABII proteins with an antibody disperses oral streptococcus biofilm and preventsP. gingivalisentry into oral streptococcus biofilm. These results suggest potential therapeutic treatments for endocarditis caused by streptococci as well as periodontitis.

Abstract We herein report a case of osteomyelitis of the distal phalanx of the thumb of a 55-year-old man caused by Parvimonas micra and Fusobacterium nucleatum. Osteomyelitis often occurs in long bones and rarely occurs in the bones of the fingers. In addition, osteomyelitis of the finger frequently occurs after trauma or surgery, and blood-borne infection is very rare. P. micra and F. nucleatum, normal flora of the oral cavity, are very rare pathogenic bacteria of osteomyelitis except in periodontal disease, and there are no previous reports regarding the occurrence of osteomyelitis due to P. micra and F. nucleatum in the finger bones.
