The present business environment offers a wide scale of production and it is increasingly difficult to find a product standard which can distinguish the producer from competitors. The pressure of lobby groups and legislation arrangements force the society to reflect a need for ecologic and sustainable thinking. The current trend and requirements of EU are the implementation of certified systems and production of wooden products from certified wood. This paper focused on the present situation in the supply of products from certified wood and analyses an exercitation of eco-philosophy in the business of wood processors, the rate of manufacturing of certified wooden products, as well as reasons and benefits of certified production. This paper presents selected results of primary research carried out in Czechia which was focused on the investigation of economic impacts of wood products manufacturing from certified raw wood. All presented results emphasise the need for voluntary market tools with ecologic character. Keywords: Certification system, certified wood, wood processing, eco philosophy.

It should be remembered that in the Congo Basin, investments in new wood processing plants or in the extension of existing ones are still very limited. In addition, the 3 wood products exported from this region are mainly sawn timber, veneers, and plywood. It should be noted that despite some timid existing opportunities, some companies operating in the Congo Basin are struggling to invest in wood processing and therefore do not effectively contribute to the development of national and sub-regional economies. To better capitalize on these opportunities, it is important to create a business environment conducive to new investments in advanced wood processing. Ultimately, this study made it possible to assimilate the techniques and processes of obtaining veneers and plywood successfully through the technology of the machines developed, with the application of our theoretical knowledge in order to gain experience of professionally enhanced intellectual capacities. The plywood production is fixed at 6,651 m3; 8,452 m3 respectively in 2011 and 2012 showing a gradual increase in the order of 1,801 m3 due to strong demand from the local market. With regard to the annual volume of veneers obtained, the yield of veneers and plywood obtained were the following R1 ≈ 44% and R2 ≈ 30%. Exports of peeled veneers recorded a drop of 8.20% in volume, reaching 25,893.244 m3 in 2019 against 28,206.341 in 2018. However, peeled veneers each ranked 4th, in order reached 25,893.244 m3 or 2.60%. Okoumé, with 391,030,067 m3, or 39.31% of the total volume, was the main forest species among the various exported products, out of more than sixty exported concerned. Rappelons que dans le Bassin du Congo, les investissements dans les nouvelles usines de transformation du bois ou dans l’extension de celles existantes restent encore très limités. En outre, les 3 produits de bois exportés de cette région, sont majoritairement les bois sciés, les placages et les contreplaqués. Soulignons qu´en dépit de quelques timides opportunités existantes, certaines entreprises opérant  dans le Bassin du Congo peinent à investir dans la transformation du bois et de ce fait, ne contribuent pas efficacement au développement des économies nationales et sous-régionales. Pour mieux capitaliser ces opportunités, il s´avère important de créer un environnement d´affaires propice aux nouveaux investissements dans la transformation poussée du bois.  En effet depuis l’année 2000, le Congo  s’était  doté de la loi forestière, loi n° 16 - 2000 du 20 novembre 2000 portant code forestier qui consacre la gestion durable des forêts garantissant une exploitation soutenue des bois et une conservation des écosystèmes ; et jusqu’à la promulgation de la nouvelle loi forestière n°33 – 2020 du 8 juillet 2020 portant code forestier qui aborde de nouvelles questions climatiques et environnementales ; le développement et la diversification de la transformation constitue l’une des principales stratégies pour la mise en œuvre de cette politique, avec une utilisation rationnelle des bois, avec une valeur ajoutée plus importante du secteur forêt – bois et la création de plus d’emplois.

Currently, due to the calamity of unplanned harvesting, the amount of biomass from wood products has increased. Forests occupy 33.7% of the total area of the Czech Republic; therefore, wood and non-wood forest products are important renewables for the country. Wood biomass consists mainly of branches and bark that are not used in the wood or furniture industry. However, it can be used in bioenergy, including wood processing for fuel. As spruce production in the Czech Republic increased from the planned 15.5 million to almost 36.8 million trees in 2020, the price of wood biomass can be expected to be affected. This study aims to develop a predictive model for estimating the decline in the price of wood biomass for wood processors, such as firewood or sawdust producers, as well as for the paper industry. Wood biomass prices are falling with each additional million m3 of spruce wood harvested, as is the decline in wood pulp, which is intended for the paper and packaging industries. The proposed predictive model based on linear regressions should determine how the price of wood biomass will decrease with each additional million harvested spruce trees in the Czech Republic. This tool will be used for practical use in the forestry and wood industry. The linear regression model is suitable for practical forestry use due to its simplicity and high informative value. The aim of the research is to model the dependence of the prices of firewood in the form of wood briquettes and pellets for domestic and industrial processing, as well as the prices of wood pulp on the volume of unplanned logging. It is a guide for the practice of how to use excess spruce wood from unplanned mining in the field of alternative processing with a sustainable aspect for households or heat production for households. The intention is to carry out modelling in such a way that it does not include prices of higher quality wood assortments, which are intended for the woodworking industry.

Sufficient supply of woodworking with raw materials while preserving the ecology and rational use of wood is a necessary condition for the functioning of the woodworking industry as one of the key segments of the national economy. The issue is of particular importance given the deepening of world integration processes and the introduction of a moratorium on timber exports from Ukraine. It actualizes the study of the state and dynamics of the formation of raw materials potential of domestic woodworks. The purpose of the article is a structural and dynamic assessment of the economic and environmental aspects of formation of the resource potential of Ukrainian woodworks in comparison with the countries of the European Union, as well as in the regional section by types of wood. In the structure of merchantable wood harvested in Ukraine, fuel wood share increased by 4.3 pp. during 2011-2016, whereas in 2017 it increased by 3.8 pp. compared to 2016 and amounted to 61.4%. Unlike in Ukraine, in the vast majority of EU countries business timber is the basis of the structure of harvested merchantable timber. Thus, in the neighboring countries with similar forest landscape – Poland and the Czech Republic – the share of fuel wood in 2017 was 11.6% and 12.3%, in Slovakia – only 6.3%, and in the EU as a whole – 23. 2%. Hence, the significant deterioration of the structure of the harvested merchantable timber in Ukraine can be interpreted as a threat to environmental, and therefore to national security. On the other hand, the results of the assessments revealed an increase in the volume of commercial timber harvesting in Ukraine (in 18 regions) in 2018, as well as in the level of forest reproduction in the leading regions from the harvesting of merchantable timber (Zhytomyr, Kyiv and Rivne regions) and a decrease in the death rate. The restoration of the logical patterns between the dynamics of the loss of stands and the harvesting of commercial and fuel wood are signs of the beginning of positive tendencies in ensuring the preservation and rationalization of raw potential of domestic woodworks and, at the same time, improving the conditions for deepening the level of wood processing. Further authors’ research in this area will be devoted to the search for effective forms of wood industry development in Ukraine, in particular in the Western region.

This work is devoted to the study of the effect of ultraviolet rays for the surface activation of pine wood thermally modified at temperatures of 180−240 °C in order to increase the surface roughness, enhance the wettability of thermal wood and the adhesive strength of the glue in the production of wood block furniture panels. Studies were carried out to measure the contact angle of wettability of thermally modified wood samples of pine, as a result of which it was determined that the ultraviolet treatment process contributes to an increase in the adhesion properties of the surface layer of thermally modified wood by more than 13% due to the reactivity of ultraviolet rays to oxidize and degrade ligno-containing wood products. At the same time, the most active process of surface activation takes place during 60 min of ultraviolet irradiation of wood with a total irradiation of at least 125 W/cm2. It was revealed that the combined effect of two-stage wood processing, including preliminary volumetric thermal modification followed by surface ultraviolet treatment, causes an increase in the moisture resistance of glued wood products by 24%. So, if the strength of the glue seam when gluing natural wood samples after boiling decreased by 46%, then the samples that underwent two-stage processing showed a decrease only by 22%. In connection with the results obtained, an improved technology for the production of furniture boards for the manufacture of moisture-resistant wood products is proposed.

The aim of the paper is to evaluate the development of the Czech foreign trade in milk and milk products and specify the typical features and consequences within its territorial and commodity structure using a specific system of indicators intended to show a relevant image on the topic. The analysis covers the period between 1999 and 2015 and are interpreted in the context of changes of the business environment that have occurred in the last two decades, particularly in relation to the Czech Republic’s entry into the European Union. Throughout the studied period, the Czech Republic revealed a positive balance of trade in milk and dairy products, as well as favourable values of TC index (value of coverage of import by export). The dynamics of the territorial structure of export and import is embodied in the overall trade dynamics between the Czech Republic and countries of EU-28. The Czech Republic’s entry into the EU common market, however, led to a change in the trading milk product structure. As a negative is regarded the fact that the structure of Czech export to the EU countries has changed and that is mainly concentrated on basic raw milk or dairy products of the first phase of processing with relatively low added value.

Forests owned by the state in the Czech Republic are managed by Forests of the Czech Republic, state enterprise with its headquarters in Hradec Králové. The private companies (established during the economic reform in 1992 and privatization in 1994) carry out silvicultural and logging activities in state forests on the basis of contracts. This study is focused on forest enterprises (contractors); the current situation of business environment in the Czech Republic was studied. There have been found 38 236 forestry entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic, and divided according to legal title, to numbers of employees onto groups on the basis of size and availability of their accounting data in the first part of the article.The second part deals with data mining from accounting by a process known as a Financial statement analysis, which has to make an informed decision for owners or managers of the enterprise. Ratio analysis is regarded as the basic methodical instrument of financial analysis. Ratio analysis effectively summarizes multiple financial statement categories into few relative indices of performance and financial position. It is powerful method for managing with the complexity and volume data presented in financial statements. The relative indices converse financial statement categories into measures and it helps control for differences across companies and across time. This article contains chosen forestry contractors and describes the most useful economic indicators (ratios) and takes into account possible utilization in the sector generally.

Business acquisition constitutes a fundamental aspect of business environment formation. Our research has focused on assessment of impact of capital acquisition on the economic condition of the company. Therefore, the second research level has been initiated, focusing on the individual assessment of the single companies to identify allocation of synergy between consolidated units and parent companies in the Czech Republic. For our research, taking into consideration availability of data and subsequent explanatory value of the results, we will consider synergistic effect as presented in the Ansoff’s concept. Consolidated financial statements of totally 719 groups of accounting entities – business concerns in the Czech Republic has been studied in the research. A composite indicator, as the modern tool for comparison and evaluation of development of entities, has been selected to compare individual economic indicators of parent companies and group of their companies. We believe that developed arguments allow us to formulate conclusion that capital acquisitions, resulting in the years 2008–2013 in the obligation to compile consolidated financial statement, have brought positive financial synergistic effects in majority of cases, and we can rank them among successful business activities.

Research Highlights: One of the priorities of the European Commission is to build up an effective circular economy based on recycling and multiple use of materials. Wood biomass is a renewable raw material and can be used several times in a cascading sequence. Each country has a unique situation regarding the availability and utilization of wood sources. Background and Objectives: The objective of this study was to analyze wood flow in the Czech Republic using the cascading principle of biomass use. The specific situation in the Czech Republic lies in a lack of valid and reliable input data from official statistics. Therefore, the reverse input method was applied. Materials and Methods: Input data analyses of roundwood sources and foreign trade were based on official statistical data. The calculation of raw wood volume consumption in primary processing was performed based on the data after our own correction and recalculation. It was then possible to build up a basic model of multi-stage cascade wood use. The input volume of roundwood was divided among all types of primary processing production using conversion factors. Results: Cascading use of wood (CUW) showed the level of efficiency of the resource. Official statistical input data and the reversed input data regarding raw wood volume entering wood processing revealed differences at a level of 27%. The overall CUW in the Czech Republic indicates a high rate of wood use in primary processing with low added value and in generating energy. Conclusions: The reverse input method reveals the real situation of wood consumption irrespective of the level of official statistical data. It is suitable to apply in an environment of incomplete or incorrect input data. CUW in Czechia showed an opportunity for increasing the efficiency of wood utilization. The structure of wood use needs to be optimized towards creating greater added value.
