Diabetic Mellitus causes many complications and profoundly affects patients’ lives, impacting their physical, psychological, and social well being. These complications are debilitating and significantly impair their quality of life. However, little is known about the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus in West Java Province, Indonesia, a gap addressed by this study. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a sample of 73 adult diabetes patients in the outpatient department of a general public hospital in West Java. The survey questionnaire included demographic data and the World Health Organisation (WHO) quality of life markers. The results indicate that of of 73 patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus agreed to join this study, 76.7% were age over 45 years old and 68% were female. The majority of the patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus reported a poor quality of life in 3 domains, physical domain (64.4%), psychological domain (53.4%), and environmental domain (52.1%). The social domain seems more favourable, with 54.8% of respondents reporting a good quality of life. This study indicates the importance of achieving better disease management to improve patient’ quality of life.   Keywords: Type 2 diabetic mellitus, quality of life, WHOQOL-BREF

Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder amongst women, which can negatively impact quality of life. Research proposes that a more sensitive PCOS quality of life measure is needed. This study aims to develop and initially validate a quality of life scale for women with the condition in the United Kingdom. Women with PCOS (n = 714) took part in the development and initial validation of the 35-item polycystic ovary syndrome quality of life scale (PCOSQOL)(α = .95). Subscales include Impact of PCOS (α = .95), Infertility (α = .95), Hirsutism (α = .97) and Mood (α = .89). The PCOSQOL scale represents aspects of quality of life important to women with PCOS and may be more sensitive for use in the clinical and research settings.

Abstract Background: The original 46-item Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) scale has been translated into different languages, and the translated DQOL has shown good reliability and validity after deleting some items. However, the DQOL is not available in the Afaan Oromoo language for people living with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Ethiopia. The objective of the study was to translate the DQOL scale into Afaan Oromoo, and to culturally adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of the DQOL-Afaan Oromoo (DQOL-AO) among people living with T2D in Ethiopia. Methods: A cross-sectional study with a convenience sampling technique was conducted in 2020. The DQOL was translated and adapted to Afaan Oromoo. Item-total correlations and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) assessed factor structure; the Cronbach’s alpha assessed internal consistency and relationships with gender, educational status, marital status, age, employment status; and status of diabetes-related disease assessed the construct validity of the DQOL-AO.Results: A 417 participants responded to all items of the DQOL. Item-total correlation analysis and EFA produced a 34-item DQOL-AO with four subscales, which demonstrated that the internal consistency of the overall DQOL-AO was 0.867, and scores were 0.827, 0.846, 0.654, 0.727 for the impact, satisfaction, social/vocational worry, and diabetes-related worry subscales, respectively. Statistically significant differences in QOL were obtained in educational status (F=7.164, p<0.001) and employment status (F=4.21, P=0.002). Individuals who attended college and above and government employees had better QOL. Conclusion: The 34-item DQOL-AO provided preliminary evidence as a reliable and valid tool to measure diabetic-related QOL among adults living with T2D who speak Afaan Oromoo.

This study investigated the relationship between quality of life level and social appearance anxiety levels of physically disabled boccia athletes. The population of 2018–2019 Boccia Championships for the Physically Disabled Turkey was invited to participate (N = 97 athletes), and sampling was determined by simple random sampling (n = 83); data from 80 athletes were used. The quantitative study was performed by applying the linkage method to the screening model. Questionnaire technique was used as the data collection method. The descriptive form, quality of life scale, and social appearance anxiety scale were applied to the participants. Correlation and regression analysis were used for statistical analysis. When the direction and level of the relationship between quality of life and social appearance anxiety were examined, a high level and positive relationship between quality of life and social appearance anxiety was found. There is a significant relationship between quality of life and social appearance anxiety. Regression coefficient values of quality of life level contribute to social appearance anxiety level. As a result, a high and negative relationship was found between quality of life and social appearance anxiety. This study found that the quality of life level of the physically disabled individuals engaged in boccia sport contributed to social appearance anxiety level. In other words, it has been determined that the determinants of quality of life are an important or priority variable in social appearance anxiety of physically disabled boccia athletes.
