This paper aimed at finding out the types of teacher‟s directive expressions at two schools and describing the realizations of directive expressions in English teaching. This research was designed as a qualitative and comparative study. The subjects of the research were English teachers at one Senior High School (first School) at Semarang city and one (second school) at Jepara city. The data of this research were gained through recording, observation and interview. The result showed that there were 11 illocutionary kinds found in the teacher‟s directive expressions at the first school, and 8 illocutionary types in teacher‟s directive expressions at the second school. The most illocutionary kind found in the conversation of teaching activity in both schools was question. The directive‟s expression in both schools used direct and indirect utterances. The teachers of first school more often used language instruction in the classroom because they applied varieties of directive expression. Meanwhile, the teachers at the first school used little directive expressions in English teaching because they did not apply varieties of directive‟s expressions. The implication in teaching learning English process is that teacher-centered and student-centered type of learning depends on the frequency of production of directive expressions. More directives the teacher expresses, more center the learning by the teacher. On the other hand, less directives the teacher expresses, less center the learning by the teacher.

The findings revealed that all respondents viewed speaking important and they were willing to deal with the necessities to master it. Although they got interesting materials, empowering activities, and proper opportunity to practice speaking, they insisted to have longer time to practice. In addition, some respondents tended to avoid speaking due to their fear of lecturers’ ‘scolding’ and classmates’ laughing. The paper concludes by suggesting the need to create a friendly and conducive environment in the classroom.

This study aims to create a learning program that can overcome students' difficulties in the matter of integers at the Wirautama Patrol Junior High School, Indramayu Regency. This research was conducted using Classroom Action Research using the Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) learning model. The object of this research is the students of class VII A SMP Wirautama Patrol Indramayu Regency, totaling 37 students. The instrument in this study was the researcher himself, while the data collection was obtained from: interviews, comprehension tests, observation sheets, lesson plans and daily journals. In this research, the first cycle is learning to overcome students' difficulties in determining the direction of the integer line, the second cycle is learning to overcome students' difficulties in multiplication and division of negative integers and the third cycle is learning to overcome students' difficulties in the properties of integer operations and mixed integer operations. The indicator of research success is DSK (Classical Absorption), which is a class that has completed its learning if 85% of students achieve an absorption capacity of at least 65% (Tarmilah, 2005:29). The results of the learning cycle I to cycle III obtained DSK 65%, thus learning to overcome students' difficulties in the matter of integers in class VII A SMP Wirautama Patrol Indramayu Regency is considered successful.
