The problems of building and realizing the self-identity of men and women through the practice of gender awareness education are relevant to all countries and cultures to varying degrees. The article attempts to conduct a comparative analysis of gender policy in Russia and China at the present stage in two aspects: education in the field of equality of rights and opportunities of men and women; correction of gender stereotypes and biases. The specificity of the approach to solving gender problems correlates with the national-cultural, political, religious, and ethical characteristics of the Russian and Chinese peoples. In Russia, as in China, the norms and principles of interaction between men and women, as well as the equality of their rights and opportunities in social life, are formally recognized by society and legalized, that contributes to spread of egalitarian views and attitudes. However, the declarative nature of this recognition often manifests itself in the lives of citizens of both States. Nevertheless, the traditional gender stereotypes are being overcome in Russian and Chinese society (in each in its own way), the authorities are trying to expand the legislative framework on gender equality of men and women, attract administrative resources to improve the level of gender culture of the population, as well as develop and implement programs designed for women. The strategic direction of gender policy and gender awareness education remains the development of a systematic approach to the presence of a gender component in the understanding of social processes, to the integration of the achievements of both sexes in the organization of society.

The study examines the peculiarities of the implementation of gender policy in the field of security and defense by the example of the UN and NATO. To achieve this goal, we considered the legal regulation of gender equality in the field of security and defense of the UN and NATO; analyzed the work of institutional mechanisms for the implementation of gender policy in the field of security and defense by the example of the UN and NATO; characterized the peculiarities of cooperation between Ukraine, the UN and NATO in ensuring gender equality in the field of security and defense. The legal regulation of gender equality at the UN and NATO levels was considered, in particular a number of resolutions (UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security No. 1325, No. 1820, No. 1888, No. 1889, No. 1960, No. 2106, No. 2122, No. 2422, No. 2467, No. 2493), which recognizes the importance of involving women and gender mainstreaming in peace negotiations, humanitarian planning, peacekeeping, post-conflict peacebuilding, governance, and equal participation of women at all levels of conflict prevention or protection from sexual violence. Also the authors analyzed the work of institutional mechanisms responsible for the implementation of gender policy of the UN and NATO, in particular, their expertise and scope of activities. It was clarified that the following persons responsible for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions in NATO: Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Women, Peace and Security; NATO Gender Office; Gender Adviser at the International Military Staff; a number of advisory committees and working groups led by NATO Strategic Command; Civil Society Advisory Council on Women, Peace and Security. At the same time, the UN has seven expert institutions and regional independent human rights experts to combat discrimination and gender-based violence against women and girls: UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women; UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women; UN Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls; Committee of Experts on the Follow-up Mechanism to the Belem-Par Convention; Expert Group on Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence; Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Africa of the African Commission on Human Rights; Human Rights Rapporteur. In addition, a number of sub-organizations and programs have been established at the UN level to achieve gender equality in all spheres of life, such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 movement and the UN-Women. Aspects of Ukraine's cooperation with the UN and NATO in ensuring gender equality in the field of security and defense are highlighted separately. The importance and effectiveness of cooperation between Ukraine and the Alliance during the war in Eastern Ukraine have been established. The support by the UN of Ukraine in fulfilling the obligations within the international regulatory framework on the introduction of gender equality and women’s rights was also analyzed.

Abstract This paper examines the discourse of PiS party in Poland as a form of biopolitical populism. I view this phenomenon as a specific style of political discourse rather than an ideology, that, first, focuses on bodily issues, including family and gender policy, sexual behavior, etc., second—it is inherently performative and as such it appeals to emotions, and, third—it directly communicates with “people” while circumventing the existing institutional framework of the state. Based on the cases of PiS rhetoric on the Smolensk catastrophe, and its narratives on gender and anti-LGBTQ issues, I demonstrate how the latter could be used for political othering and for subverting the core democratic principles. My data includes publications in Polish media and on social platforms (Twitter and Facebook), mostly before and after elections to European and national parliaments in May and October 2019, as well as during the presidential election in spring 2020.

Our understanding and treatment of gender in the United States has evolved significantly over the past four decades. Transgender individuals in the current U.S. context enjoy more rights and protections than they have in the past; yet, room for progress remains. Moving beyond the traditional male–female binary, an unprecedented number of people now identify as transgender and nonbinary. Transgender identities are at the forefront of gender policy, prompting responses from public agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. Because transgender individuals face increased rates of discrimination, violence, and physical and mental health challenges, compared to their cisgender counterparts, new gender policy often affords legal protections as well as identity-affirming practices such as legal name and gender marker changes on government documents. These rights come from legal decisions, legislation, and administrative agency policies. Despite these victories, recent government action targeting the transgender population threatens the progress that has been made. This underscores the importance of comprehensive policies and education about transgender identities to protect the rights of transgender people.

AbstractIndonesian women were at the forefront of activism during the turbulent period prior to reformasi and were a part of the leadership that demanded democratic change. Two decades after Indonesia embarked on democratic reforms, the country continues to face challenges on socio-religious and political fronts. Both the rise of political Islam and the increased presence of religion and faith in the public sphere are among the key features of Indonesia's consolidating democracy. This development has reinvigorated the discourse on citizenship and rights and also the historical debate over the relationship between religion and the state. Bearing this in mind, this paper looks at the narrative of women's rights and women's status in the public domain and public policy in Indonesia. It is evident, especially in the past decade, that much of the public conversation within the religious framework is increasingly centred on women's traditional social roles. This fact has motivated this study. Several norms and ideas that are relied on are based on cultural and faith-based interpretations - of gender. Therefore, this paper specifically examines examples of the ways in which social, legal, and political trends in this context affect progress with respect to gender equality and gender policy. I argue that these trends are attempts to subject women to conservative religious doctrines and to confine them to traditional gender roles. The article discusses how these developments should be seen in the context of the democratic transition in Indonesia.

The article analyzes the implementation of the author's mentoring project by Khrystyna Boychuk #ТІЩОЗМОГЛИ within the strategic communications of National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine. The project aims to maintain the image of the National Guard of Ukraine by building leadership potential and gender awareness among young men and women who plan to link their future with service in the security and defense sector of Ukraine. The aim of the study was to identify the features of the development of leadership potential and gender awareness in the process of implementing a mentoring set. The #ТІЩОЗМОГЛИ project is a mentoring platform designed to educate modern leaders. The project aims to develop leadership potential in students, including students with enhanced military and physical training, by providing them with basic tools to combat gender and other types of discrimination and skills that will help in the future to adequately respond to social challenges related to gender stereotypes. The first implementation of the project #ТІЩОЗМОГЛИ was carried out on the basis of National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, where a training program was conducted based on the main module on gender equality and 2 training modules - legal and leadership, which previously integrated the principles of gender equality. The aim was to demonstrate the possibilities of non-formal education with an integrated aspect of gender equality, as well as inclusiveness and tolerance. The second implementation of the #ТІЩОЗМОГЛИ project envisaged an increase in the target audience and took place on the basis of educational institutions with enhanced military and physical training in Kharkiv in five stages: acquaintance with the program, gender aspects of military service, legal course, leadership course and public speaking course. The results of these courses were evaluated using a survey conducted at the beginning of the training modules and after their completion. These surveys showed how much the participants' knowledge of gender issues has increased. An important result of the training modules, as the survey showed, was that the project drew students' attention to the importance of developing leadership potential and the ability to consciously approach the formulation of goals and make choices for future self-realization. As the information support of the project is an important component of the strategic communications of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, information about the implementation of the #ТІЩОЗМОГЛИ project was disseminated on various Internet resources. The approbation of the project #ТІЩОЗМОГЛИ as a direction of the strategic communications of National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine showed the relevance of the topic and the interest of the target audience. The mentoring project resulted in the development of participants' leadership potential, raising awareness of gender issues, overcoming gender stereotypes and establishing harmonious communication between girls and boys, based on respect, non-discrimination, equality and mutual understanding.

This research aims to describe the lack of gender knowledge of 20 teachers in two primary schools in Padang. It is assumed that teachers in primary schools are important to have gender knowledge. This is because primary schools are the basic education for pupils in building their character and constructing their mindset, especially mindset with gender awareness and gender sensitivity attitude. Thus during learning process, teachers without gender bias and lack of gender knowledge may widely spread the gender sensitivity and gender awareness in order to fight the bias gender and discrimination against women. The research takes qualitative method by using in-depth interview and distribute questioner toward 20 teachers in 2 primary schools. The result showed that most teachers in these two elementary schools lack of knowledge about gender concept. They seem likely difficult to make different among the definition of sex and gender concept. This lack of knowledge to some extent affected the learning process such as prefer to choose boys as chairman in the class, separate boys and girls in several activities. It is recommended in increasing the socialization process of gender knowledge around primary school’s teachers.
