The Degree of Practicing Creative Leadership by the Principals of Primary Schools in the North West Badia District in Mafraq

This study aimed at identifying the degree of practicing creative leadership by the principals of primary schools in the North West Badia District in Mafraq governorate. To achieve this objective, a questionnaire was developed consisting of (55) statements, covering four areas: (originality, flexibility, fluency and initiative), and was administered to a sample of (550) teachers. The results of the study showed that the total degree of practicing creative leadership by the principals of the primary schools in the North West Badia district in Mafraq governorate was significant, with a high degree of practice in two areas (initiative and flexibility), and with a medium degree of practice in two areas (originality and fluency). The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences between the responses of the study sample towards the areas of the study tool combined and the tool as a whole according to the difference of gender variable in favor of females, as well as according to the different years of experience in each area (originality, flexibility, and fluency) in favor of all categories of years of experience. During World War II, representatives of almost all the Soviet Republics fought in partisan detachments in the occupied territory of the Leningrad Region. Among them were many representatives of the Central Asian republics: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Many Leningrad citizens, including relatives of partisans, had been evacuated to Central Asia by that time. However, representatives of Asian workers’ collectives came to meet with the partisans. The huge distance, the difference in cultures and even completely different weather conditions did not become an obstacle to those patriots-Turkestanis who joined the resistance forces in the North-West of Russia.

AbstractEvidence suggests that dietary intake of UK children is currently suboptimal. It is therefore imperative to identify effective and sustainable methods of improving dietary habits and knowledge in this population, whilst also promoting the value of healthiness of food products beyond price. Schools are ideally placed to influence children's knowledge and health, and Project Daire, in partnership with schools, food industry partners and stakeholders, aims to improve children's knowledge of, and interest in, food to improve health, wellbeing and educational attainment.Daire is a randomised-controlled, factorial design trial evaluating two interventions. In total, n = 880 Key Stage (KS) 1 and 2 pupils have been recruited from 18 primary schools in the North West of Northern Ireland and will be randomised to one of four 6-month intervention arms: i) ‘Engage’, ii) ‘Nourish’, iii) ‘Engage’ and ‘Nourish’ and iv) Delayed. ‘Engage’ is an age-appropriate, cross-curricular educational intervention on food, agriculture, science and careers linked to the current curriculum. ‘Nourish’ is an intervention aiming to alter schools’ food environments and increase exposure to local foods. Study outcomes include food knowledge, attitudes, trust, diet, behaviour, health and wellbeing and will be collected at baseline and six months. Qualitative data on teacher/pupil opinions will also be collected. The intervention phase is currently ongoing. We present baseline results from our involvement and food attitudes measure from all participating schools. Results were compared by Key Stage and sex using Pearson Chi-Squared test.Baseline results from our food involvement and attitudes measure are presented for n = 880 KS1 (n = 454) and KS2 (n = 426) pupils. KS1 pupils were more likely to always or sometimes help with food shopping (89.0%) whilst KS2 pupils were more likely to always or sometimes help with food preparation (69.0%). A higher proportion of KS1 pupils reported liking to try new foods (66.1%) and that it was important that food looked (64.5%), tasted (71.1%) and smelled good (60.6%) compared with KS2 children (P < 0.01). Girls were more likely to always or sometimes help with food shopping (96.2%) and preparation (73%) when compared with boys; whilst a higher proportion of girls reported they liked to try new foods (48.2%) and that it was important that food looked (68%) smelled (50.5%) and tasted (71.8%) good compared with boys (P < 0.01).Results suggest that involvement in food preparation and shopping, willingness to try new foods and attitudes towards food presentation varied by KS and sex in this cohort.

In order to analyze the difference of the level of new-type and traditional urbanization of Shandong province, 20 indexes were selected involving economic, society and environment, etc, and principal component analysis was applied to calculate the score of the new-type urbanization levels of the 108 cities in Shandong in 2008 and 2013, and GIS was applied to analyze the spatial distribution of the levels. The results show that the cities whose new-type urbanization level is higher than that of traditional urbanization are located at the east of Shandong peninsula urban agglomeration, and the cities whose new-type urbanization level is lower than that of traditional urbanization are located at the north-west and south-west of the province in both 2008 and 2012.

Many policies, strategies and plans have been introduced in South African schools so as to acquire quality education. A strategic plan, as a mechanism of putting schools on a pathway of development and effectiveness over a period of time, is one of these initiatives. Its introduction is based on a number of reasons inter-alia - the shift to school self-management, the introduction of Norms and Standards, and the introduction of School Governing Bodies (SGBs). A schools strategic plan is the physical document that embodies the guiding orientation regarding how to manage the school within a larger national and local development perspective. Such a plan can lead to school effectiveness, improvement and development strategies, but not all plans obtain this status because of design efficiencies. A qualitative investigation was done in two primary schools in the Mahikeng Area Office (AO) of the North-West Province in South Africa. Document analysis, in-depth interviews with two principals and two SGB chairpersons, as well as a focus group interview with eight teachers from participating schools, were used to collect data on how primary schools in question design and implement their strategic plans. The investigation seems to suggest that, while an individual school community may craft a strategic plan in its own way, there are common aspects that underpin the entire process. Amongst others, technical knowledge and skill for its execution are necessary. Some policies emphasise the importance of a strategic plan and serve as an integrated implementation framework for its execution. It is concluded that a strategic plan is designed and implemented under three main elements: 1) strategic analysis, which is made up of stakeholder involvement; 2) strategic choices made up of direction-setting, priority determinations, mission, and vision; and 3) strategy in action, which refers to the process of translating the plan into action.

Abstract This study aims to investigate the performance of disc, conventional screen, and automatic screen filters when rainbow trout fish effluent is used for irrigation. The experiments were performed in a fish farm, located in the north-west of Iran. The disc and conventional screen filters were tested at pressures of 150 and 300 kPa, and the automatic screen filter at 200 and 300 kPa. The filtration experiments continued until the backwashing was reached. The results showed that (1) the initial head loss of disc and conventional screen filters was 40 kPa, while for the automatic screen filter was 5 kPa. (2) In the disc filter, with increasing working pressure, the filtered volume significantly (P<0.05) increased from 9.7 to 14.5 m3 m-2 (10 kPa)-1, but for conventional and automatic screen filters, it was constant at 5.5 and 7.0 m3 m-2 (10 kPa)-1, respectively, and all of them had significant (P<0.05) differences. (3) In the disc filter, with increasing the working pressure, the filtered volume to reach backwashing significantly (P<0.01) increased from 80.9 to 104.4 m3 m-2, while in the conventional screen filter increased from 14.1 to 16.4 m3 m-2. This volume at two working pressures was 29.5 m3 m-2 for the automatic screen filter. These volumes were significantly different (P<0.01) between filters. (4) The mass retention for the disc, conventional, and automatic screen filters were 28.88, 9.11, and 7.72 g min-1 m-2, respectively and tended to increase at lower working pressures. Based on this index, the difference in the performance of the filters was significant (P<0.01). (5) Overall, the best performance was for the disc filter, and after that was the automatic screen filters, but the period of time to operate for the filters until backwashing time was less than half an hour, which is not applicable under farm conditions.

В статье даны название и описание новой для науки формы жимолости чёрной – Lonicera nigra L. f. purpurea A.V. Byalt & V.V. Byalt f. nova. (Caprifoliaceae), обнаруженной в окрестностях поселка Приветнинское Ленинградской области. Растение имеет характерные пурпурные листья. Приведена информация о месте произрастания, отличии новой формы от близких таксонов (составлен латинский диагноз), указаны типовые образцы (голотип и изотип) и место их хранения (Гербарий БИН РАН – LE). Декоративность новой формы позволяет рекомендовать её для озеленения в культуре в г. Санкт-Петербурге и других городах Северо-Запада Европейской части России, как и сам вид, хорошо адаптировавшийся в регионе. Статья иллюстрирована 3 фотографиями и картой. In the article a new for science form of black honeysuckle – Lonicera nigra L. f. purpurea A.V. Byalt & V.V. Byalt f. nova (Caprifoliaceae) was found in the vicinity of the village Privetninskoye, Leningrad region, it differs by very characteristic purple leaves. Information is given on the place of growth, the difference between a new form from close taxa (Latin diagnosis is given) and the type specimens (holotype and isotype) and their storage sites are indicated. The decorativeness of the new form allows us to recommend it for gardening in culture in St. Petersburg and other cities of the North-West of the European part of Russia, as well as the species itself, which is well adapted in the region. The article is illustrated with 3 photos and a map.

Background and aims. Chelating agents therapy is recommended for polytransfused patients that have evidence of iron overload (an elevated serum ferritin or received over 20 units of red blood cell transfusions). Deferasirox showedefficacy and safety in maintaining or reducing body iron.Iron chelation therapy was associated with hematopoiesis improvement in transfusion-dependent patients.Our objectives were to analyze differences in ferritin level in adult polytransfused patients treated with Deferasirox, to estimate the erythroid improvement and variation of the number of red blood cell transfusion after introducing Deferasirox, to evaluate the side effects of the treatment.Methods. Retrospective study including all the adult polytransfused patients treated with Deferasirox in Hematology Departments of   three county hospitals in the North-West of Romania.         Results. We included 40 polytransfused patients treated with Deferasirox in standard doses. There was a significant reduction in serum ferritine from baseline for all the patients (Friedman test, χ2(2)=26.82, p<0.001). Safety profile of Deferasirox was good (three digestive side effects). RBCT were administered before (mean 2.43±1.09 units/month) and after starting Deferasirox (mean 1.40±0.97 units/month), the difference is statistically significant (Student Test, t(39)=6.98, p<0.001).Conclusions. Deferasirox proves to be an effective iron chelator, the serum level of ferritine decreased for all the patients during the treatment and 22.5 % of the patients developed an erythroid improvement. Safety and compliance were good.

Lake Windermere in the north-west of England perhaps makes you think of poets, or of adolescent adventures less concerned with wizards and vampires and more with Swallows and Amazons if you have grown up with English children’s books. Anyhow, people who lived by their pencil. Or should that perhaps be the pen? We don’t see the serious author in her study hard at work with a pencil. Pencils are generally considered to be mostly for children doing their homework, or others who frequently need to erase their mistakes. There has never been a lack of ink, traditionally a mixture of iron salts, water, and tannins—the bitter tasting compounds in tea and red wine. Always plenty of the black stuff to write poems and sign death sentences with. But the pencil, that is a different story. Far from being just for children, it was, and is, an essential tool for artists, engineers, carpenters, and architects. At engineering school in the late 1980s we still made (some of us did anyway) beautifully crafted pencil drawings of double-mantled stainless steel reactors. And in the army, close to the polar circle four years earlier, did we write out orders and decipher incoming radio messages with ballpoint pens? We certainly did not—in fact, this was forbidden because the ink in a pen may easily freeze. The ‘lead’ in the pencil (which is obviously not lead as in the element 82, but something else) brings us to these green valleys of the Lake District and Cumbria, England—as unlikely a place for an information technology hub as the orange orchards around Palo Alto. The different is that in California in the 1970s it was the dedicated people that mattered, not any local silicon mines. In Borrowdale in the late sixteenth century, it was the inside of the mountain itself that made the difference, for there you find the stuff from which to make pencil lead. Not that the people were unimportant. Entrepreneurship thrived in different forms. ‘Black Sal’, for example, working out of the small town of Keswick close to Borrowdale, was allegedly running a pencil-lead smuggling network in the early eighteenth century.

Since a significant percentage of crashes occur at black spots, different methods have been proposed to prioritize the modification of these spots and prevent crashes. One of these prevention methods in transportation is the hazard warning systems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the satisfaction of drivers and their affectability from a map-based warning application is evaluated. To this end, black spots were identified on one of the two-way two-lane highways in the North-West of Iran and 32 male drivers were tested in the intervention group (warning state) and the control group (non-warning state). The evaluation of the warning application was done in two steps. In the first stage, drivers’ affectability between the two groups was compared, where average speed and number of speed limit violations were studied in warning and non-warning states. In the second stage, drivers' satisfaction with application features was examined using questionnaires. The findings showed that the difference in mean speeds at black spots between warning and non-warning states was significant with 95% confidence level and the use of warning application was effective in reducing the number of drivers with speed limit violations at black spots. Most drivers were highly content with the warning from car speakers, advisory warnings and warning distance from black spot, and did not have enough satisfaction with visual warnings, the application installation procedure, and warnings from smartphone speakers. Additionally, the results of the questionnaire revealed that not only warnings did not cause distraction for the drivers, they were effective in increasing their caution. These findings can be used to eliminate the shortcomings of the hazard warning application.

This paper focuses on prospects and problems of the use of mother tongue as medium of instruction for the whole duration of primary education in the North Western States of Nigeria. The language of instruction is very crucial to education at every level because it serves as the key to learning.  Mother tongue serves as the first language of children. Low trend of enrolment in primary school has been attributed to the use of foreign language of instruction in schools which is contrary to the customs and traditions of the people in the North Western states of Nigeria. Pupils find it difficult to socialize with the English language and do not have a sense of belonging in school. The research intends to examine the prospects and problems of the use of mother tongue as a medium of instruction for pupils in North west Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The instrument for this study was a self-develop questionnaire titled "Questionnaire on prospects and problems Mother tongue". The population of the study include stakeholders' in the society, which include parents, Guardians, and Teachers, involved in childhood education. A total of 907 participated in the study, 113 parents, 30 Guardian, and 764 Teachers,  Stratified sampling technique was used to select 3 States from 7 North-western states. Which include Katsina, Kebbi, and Sokoto states in North West Nigeria.. Ten (10) metropolitan primary schools were selected from the 3 states using simple random sampling technique. Since there no significant difference between the views of parents, teachers and other stakeholders on the prospects of the use of mother tongue as a medium of instruction for pupils in North West Nigeria. It is therefore recommended that  since the prospects of Mother tongue ate inevitable and its challenges are inherent. Teachers, parents and all stakeholders should be more proactive in discharging their professional functions  in  teaching of Mother Tongue and the English language currently during lessons.
