Sampah sudah menjadi persoalan serius bagi masyarakat. Produksi sampah di dunia semakin meningkat, sedangkan laju pengurangan sampah lebih kecil dari pada laju produksinya, hal ini menyebabkan sampah semakin menumpuk. Berbagai upaya pemanfaatan sampah organik dengan teknologi baru telah dilakukan, salah satunya dengan memanfaatkan larva Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens). Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis besar persentase kemampuan larva BSF dalam mereduksi sampah organik sayuran/buah-buahan dan lauk. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode percobaan skala laboratorium. Sampah organik yang digunakan sebagai sampel adalah sampah yang berasal dari sampah makanan khususnya sampah  sayuran/buah-buahan  dan  lauk  dengan  frekuensi  feeding  sekali  dalam  3   hari.   Analisis   data   yang   digunakan   pada  penelitian   ini   yaitu  Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 2 kali replikasi (pengulangan) dan metode analisis yang digunakan adalah Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Berdasarkan penelitian ini, persentase terbesar reduksi sampah oleh larva BSF sebesar 74% dan berdasarkan persentase yang diperoleh ditentukan bahwa variasi jenis sampah sayuran/buah-buahan dengan frekuensi feeding sekali dalam 3 hari lebih efektif untuk menghasilkan persentase reduksi sampah yang optimal. Kata kunci: frekuensi feeding, jenis sampah, larva BSF, reduksi sampah organik.  Waste has become a serious problem for the community. Waste production in the world is increasing, while the rate of waste reduction is smaller than the rate of production, this causes waste to accumulate more. Various efforts to use organic waste with new technology have been carried out, one of which is by utilizing the larvae ofxBlack Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens). The purpose of this study was to analyze the large percentage of BSF larvae' ability in reducing organic waste of vegetables/fruits and side dishes. This research was conducted by laboratory-scale experimental method. Organic waste used as a sample is garbage derived from food waste, especially vegetable / fruit waste and side dishes with feeding frequency once every 3 days. Data analysis used in this study is Complete RandomIzedxDesign (RAL) with 2 times replication (repetition) and the analysis method used is Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Based on this study, the largest percentage of waste reduction by BSF larvae is 74% and based on the percentage obtained it is determined that variations in the type of vegetable/fruit waste with feeding frequency once in 3 days are more effective to produce an optimal percentage of waste reduction. Keyword: BSF larvae, feeding frequency, reduction of organic waste, types of waste.

Gondosuli Village is located in Muntilan District, Magelang Regency, and has a high population growth rate, economy, and development, all of which contribute to increased community activities. This causes waste production to continue to rise; additionally, there are issues with waste management from upstream to downstream, namely a lack of waste reduction, which leads to waste accumulation in landfills. This is due to a lack of proper management, which consists of only collection, disposal, and transportation. As a result, the community service is carried out by planning for a solid waste management system capable of reducing waste from upstream. The cultivation of maggots from organic waste is an upstream system approach that can be used to solve the waste problem. BSF maggot cultivation has several advantages, including the production of pre-puppa, which can be used as a source of protein for animal feed, and aiding in the resolution of the community's organic waste processing problem. The concept of integrated waste management (TPS 3R) can be combined with a waste bank to reduce waste disposal in the TPA while also providing economic value.

The aim of this study was to spur the lipid accumulation by larvae of Hermetia illucens or black soldier fly (BSFL) via feeding with yeast fermented medium. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a single cell yeast, was introduced at different concentrations (0.02, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5 wt %) to execute an in-situ fermentation on coconut endosperm waste. The rearing of BSFL was started simultaneously and the rearing was stopped once the BSFL reached the fifth instar. With the increasing of yeast concentration, the rearing duration of BSFL was shortened from 15.5 to 13.5 days. Moreover, it was found that at 0.5 to 1.0 wt % yeast concentration, the lipid yield and lipid productivity of BSFL were statistically enhanced to their highest peaks, namely, at 49.4% and 0.53 g/day, respectively. With regard to biodiesel composition, BSFL-derived biodiesel contained mainly C12:0, C14:0, C16:0 and C18:1. The higher amount of saturated fatty acids could strengthen the oxidative stability biodiesel produced as compared with non-edible oils or microalgal lipid. At last, the addition of yeast was also found to improve the waste reduction index of coconut endosperm waste (CEW) from 0.31 to 0.40 g/day, heralding the capability of BSFL to valorize organic waste via bioconversion into its biomass to serve as a feedstock for biodiesel production.

One of the recent organic waste management programs actively developed is organic waste bioconversion by using larvae of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus)). However, one major challenge in organic waste management in Indonesia is the limited space to manage the wastes at waste collection centers. This condition increases the number of wastes to be converted (consumed) by larvae of soldier fly. In this study, the condition was imitated in the laboratory where larvae were individually fed with a large number of wastes. Larvae were divided into 4 groups and were fed with 200, 300, 400, and 500 mg/larva/day of rotten vegetable waste (Pakcoy) and were replicated 3 times. Variables observed during the study were the growth rate, consumption capability, level of waste reduction (waste reduction index, WRI), consumption efficiency (efficiency of conversion of digested-feed, ECD), the weight of harvested biomass, and protein content of larvae, pupae, and adults. The results showed that there was no significant correlation between the weight of harvested biomass and the amount of substrate provided to larvae (one-way ANOVA, P > 0.05). The increasing amount of substrate reduced the efficiency of waste reduction and consumption (one-way ANOVA, P < 0.05). This study also showed that the possible upper limit of consumption capability of larvae was 400 mg/larva/day. On the other hand, the increasing amount of substrate increased the protein content of biomass of each developmental stage.

ABSTRACT Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae treatment is one of the organic waste processing alternatives considered to have a faster process than the other organic waste processes. However, in solid organic waste processing, BSF larvae ability to reduce organic waste is relatively low. This research aims to know the optimum waste reduction index of fruit and vegetable waste with the feed modification of fruits and vegetables' waste, analyze the Efficiency of Conversion of Digested food of BSF larvae, and know the survival rate of BSF larvae. This research used an experimental method with four reactors containing 200 larvae on each reactor. Larvae used in this research were aged 7-18 days. A different larva is fed to each reactor with rate of 100mg/larva per day. The feed are vegetables, steamed vegetables, fruit, and fermented fruit. The frequency of feeding was once a day, and weight reduction from the treatment was measured daily. Reduction results in the vegetable waste, steamed vegetables, fruit, fermented fruit were 45.29%, 42.92%, 33.75%, and 46.25%, respectively. According to the results, the reduction of fruits and vegetables' waste using optimum BSF larvae reached 46.25% in fermented fruit feed treatment. Keywords: BSF larvae, reduction, organic waste, fruit waste, modification   ABSTRAK Larva Black Soldier Fly (BSF) merupakan salah satu alternatif pengolahan sampah organik yang dinilai lebih cepat daripada pengolah sampah organik lainnya. Namun dalam pengolahan sampah organik yang padat, kemampuan larva BSF dalam mereduksi sampah organik cukup rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui reduksi optimum sampah organik buah dan sayuran dengan modifikasi komposisi umpan sampah buah dan sayuran, untuk menganalisis konversi pakan yang dapat dicerna larva BSF, dan mengetahui tingkat keberhasilan hidup larva BSF. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental menggunakan empat reaktor yang berisi 200 ekor larva pada setiap reaktornya. Larva yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berumur 7-18 hari. Setiap reaktor diberikan umpan larva yang berbeda dengan laju pengumpanan 100mg/larva per hari. Umpan tersebut, di antaranya sayuran, sayuran dikukus, buah, dan buah difermentasi. Frekuensi pemberian umpan dilakukan satu hari sekali dan pengurangan berat umpan dari perlakukan yang diberikan diukur setiap hari. Hasil reduksi pada sampah sayuran, sayuran dikukus, buah, buah difermentasi  masing-masing: 45,29%, 42,92%, 33,75%, dan 46,25%. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, reduksi sampah organik buah dan sayuran dengan larva BSF optimum, mencapai 46,25% pada perlakuan umpan buah fermentasi. Current supply chain methods are having difficulties in resolving problems arising from the lack of trust in supply chains. The root reason lies in two challenges brought to the traditional mechanism: self-interests of supply chain members and information asymmetry in production processes. Blockchain is a promising technology to address these problems. The key objective of this paper is to present qualitative analysis for blockchain in supply chain as the decision-making framework to implement this new technology. The analysis method used Val IT business case framework, validated by the expert judgements. The further study needs to be elaborated by either the existing organization that use blockchain or assessment by the organization that will use blockchain to improve their supply chain management.

Nutritionally unbalanced organic waste can be converted into potential resources for animal and plant farming by culturing black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) and prepupae (BSFP). BSFL and BSFP are rich sources of protein and lipids, while the leftover excrement called “frass” can be used as an organic fertilizer. Using readily available resources, BSFL were cultured on spent coffee, donut dough or an equal blend for 35 days. Survival, productivity, daily pupation and biochemical composition of BSFL and BSFP were measured along with the nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium values of the frass. Survival was highest in the blend compared (81%) to spent coffee (45%) or dough (24%); however, BSFL and BSFP were significantly longer and heavier from dough. Stage and food significantly influenced the protein, lipid and glycogen content of the BSFL and BSFP, which tended to be higher in the latter. While fatty acids were often significantly higher in BSFL fed spent coffee, the amino acid composition of BSFL was generally higher in dough. Frass from the blend had significantly highest nitrogen content, while potassium and phosphorus were significantly higher and lower from spent coffee, respectively. Although coffee and donut dough were suboptimal substrates for BSFL, a blend of these produced BSFL and frass that were nutritionally comparable to soybean meal and many organic fertilizers, respectively.

The larvae of the black soldier fly (BSF), Hermetia illucens L., are commonly associated with decaying organic wastes. Over the past 15 years, investigators in China have conducted extensive research exploring the use of BSF larvae to recycle organic materials as a means to protect the environment, while producing products of value, such as protein and bioenergy. Initial efforts were based on a BSF strain from the USA. However, since then, H. illucens strains from specimens collected in Hubei and Guangdong Provinces have been established and used as models to explore the use of this species in sustainable agriculture. China has played an instrumental role in developing an in-door breeding method using a quartz-iodine lamp rather than depend on natural sunlight. This discovery has allowed the establishment of in-door BSF colonies in regions throughout the world where abiotic conditions (i.e. cold temperatures) are preventative. Researchers in China paved the way for using microbes as a means to enhance BSF production including, enhancing BSF egg-laying as well as waste reduction. Furthermore, bacteria from BSF gut or waste can be cultured and used to promote BSF growth, shorten conversion time, and enhanced conversion efficacy. Recent efforts have demonstrated BSF larvae can degrade antibiotics as well as suppress noxious odours in livestock manure. Due to the efforts of research on BSF in China, numerous companies that recycle organic waste at a large scale (>20 tonnes waste digested/day), have been established. Resulting products include insect powder, and live BSFL that can be used as animal feed ingredients for livestock (e.g. eels and frogs), while protecting the environment. Future work will decipher the mechanisms regulating BSF larval conversion of organic waste so that the system can be optimised. However, efforts are still needed at the government level to establish quality assurance standards if this process is truly to become established as an industry in China.
